  1. I had a lucky and frustrating day.... Lucky because the 110 passed it's MOT without a hitch.... Frustrating because on the way home the Speedo stopped working and the temp guage went off the scale.... Fans on and no cooling happening. It's a Land Rover I hear you say.... It does those sort of things... We are planning to take the 110 to France in a weeks time. It's been running a dream with nothing to do for weeks now and all of a sudden I'm working to a deadline again... Luckily I have a spare thermostat and planned to change the speedo cable at some point and have the cable in the garage.... Guess I know how Sunday morning will pan out now.... So did you get got by that nice chap called fate ?
  2. Chris, knowing how good your events are, I'd like to come along.... 6th is a Charity ball we are supporting so I'd have to avoid that weekend in October. Half Term (As said before) is 20th thru 28th so would have to avoid that for home life. (Or a life for me at home..) (Any ideas how to tell the wife I got a business meeting imposed on Friday 26th and thus can't go on holiday with the kids that half-term ?) I've got a spare Panhard rod and front axle for this trip... Wonder what else will break ! I'm assuming I've got a spare front seat at present unless you hear otherwise... Happy to have someone onboard..... Neil
  3. I read somewhere that your require a 470ohm resistor in there somewhere if you are not running Lambdas.... Mine was running rich and sooted the plugs after a while... Resistor was duff... Fitted new resistor which effectively told the system there were not Lambda's and all working fine now... Might also be worth checking advance / retard mechanism.. Mine was dead (Diaphram holed) which meant I wasn't getting the best burn in the cylinder.... Neil
  4. My 110 CSW (1989) V8 had rear anti-roll bar with Boge but no front anti-roll bar.... Recently removed Boge, went to TD5 spec rear springs and upgraded to poly bushes all round. Handles very well on the road... If I end up doing more off-road I may try with anti-roll bar removed.... (Not done anything serious off-road since the changes..) Neil
  5. Tried to buy some time but they seem to be sold out presently.. I'll have to check back !
  6. I like the idea..... (But don't have the ability for the electrickery...) Anyone on the forums prepared to make and sell these? (Maybe make a contribution to the Gin fund as well ?) Sign me up for one...... Neil
  7. Jamie......... Did you make a wooden axle recently and paint it black?? (Worried look on my face..) Neil
  8. Sounds a lot like Panhard bushes.... Starts with steering wobble that gets quite violent... Feels like the cars shaking apart and gripping steering wheel doesn't stop it.. Slowing down usually does.... Early wobbles you can drive through.. If the bushes wear more, you gotta slow down. I was advised to lay under the car while someone else "wobbles" the steering wheel with a bit of venom. Look at the bushes on both ends of the Panhard rod and see if the car moves and the rod doesn't..... Hope it helps.... Neil
  9. Obviously asking the money because it's a "collectors item" or "antique".... Shame the seller can't spell either !
  10. But did he have a good turning circle ?
  11. No problem Quagmire..... Happy to say it how I see it.... I hope it serves you well as you say.. Certainly looks capable. Neil
  12. I interviewed some recently Ralph, and they don't like you either... So no worries there..... Apart from the potential bearing wear, nuts coming loose, how much of a benefit are these babies in giving some turning circle back with MT's ?
  13. Meccano, I don't know what you are thinking, I can't weld for toffee and I thought your replacement thread was informative AND..... I thought you had done a good job ! If others can do a better job, well done them... Just don't offer your services to them ! Neil
  14. I think he loves you Nige...... Shame really.. I enjoyed the replacmeent thread as well... Nige... I recon you should have said something like "all done in genuinely helpfull sort of way " so no-one takes offense....
  15. Might be worth a looksee.... Just read this from Les... Clicky link to post......
  16. Squeak or squeal ? Sometimes after a dunking in water or mud, small stones can get caught between pad and disk. These gradually grind away.. No way to get them out unless you take pads out and find the buggars... They do go away.... Eventually..... (then of course, I could be wrong...)
  17. We had a crack at this on Thursday night... Removal was messy.. Lots of fluid to contend with. If you are doing this on a V8 you have two options for removal.. Either remove oil filter to drop out from below or remove the alternator and lift from above. I believe from discussion with Les that Diseasels have all the clearance you will need. We opted for alternator as it was not filled with oil.... We checked we were in the middle of the PAS box steering range by connecting steering column without bolts and swinging from lock to lock.. Just short of 4 complete turns. New drop arm used. Steering wheel still ouf of line at present but net result was tighter "accurate" steering. Steering still a little tighter then I remember, and not self centreing totally but that me be a result of most things being new now. Going to see how tight the N/S swivel ball is in case the garage that did the radius arms set it too tight.. Otherwise, it's very safe to drive again and feels great again. Neil
  18. I've found that holding "Ctrl" and pressing "F5" gives full screen refresh (i.e. not from cache) and usually clears the message problem... Neil
  19. I believe it should be smooth. Mine has a break in the cable connector right behind the speedo and it's "wobbly" below 30.... I'd suggest checking for kinks as you say, and make sure the connector hasn't subsequently been broken on yours.. Sounds like a cable not running smooth.
  20. Thanks for your help peeps... Didn't click that the limiit of travel was very limited at the front until Les helped me out on MSN... Thanks Les.... Was too late to get started tonight when we eventually got round to it so we surveyed the job with coffee in hand and plan to do it tomorrow.... Will keep you informed. Neil
  21. I'm about to replace my 4 bolt PAS steering box.... Driving to work this morning I had a thought... Only the one, I have to confess..... Do I have to identify the centre position of the PAS box or is it designed that it will just continue turning no matter how many times I turn it ? (i.e. just bolt it on, fix the drop arm, run some fluid through etc. and call it jobbed...) Was sort of worried when I had that thought and would really like to know the answers before I clamber under the car and start un-bolting things.... Thanks in advance... Neil
  22. Oh Steve you won't believe how easy it was this time through... I think I'm going to drop the front suspension every 2 months just to keep it all loose for when I really want to change something ! Did you manage to find a solution for your rear end.. (ooerr...)
  23. Hi Tomas... You'll have to wait for one of the experts to come along.... Looking at SteveG's thread on his suspension changes a while back he doesn't appear to have a rear anti-roll bar on his... (See the pictures in this thread..) Link to Steves thread.... It seems that my dancing was because of an unplanned lift to the front of my 110 which put the castor angle out. Also had some play in a couple of joints to the rear. I'm gradually working through the suspension to see if I can get rid of most of the cars bad habits...
  24. I covered the drive under the 110 in large pieces of cardboard and still managed to get some on the block paving !! It's horrible stuff to play with so I'll decline your offer Ralph..... I'll watch you doing it yourself! Went over whole chassis and can't find any other areas of concern so I'll get the rest all Waxoyled this summer by someone who likes getting the stuff in their hair and getting paid for it... Places in Peterborough etc. so not too far for me....
