  1. How can they impose TRO's without any consultation? I'd be intrigued if anyone knows the answer. Technically for a TRO: Statutory Consultation (with Police, Highway Authority, Local Councillors) Public Consultation (advert in the press, notices on the roads the TRO will affect) 6 weeks after the legal order is implemented = Time to make an objection to the legal process It's also encouraged now, but not a legality, that legal orders should be available to consult on line and take on line objections. They also need to produce a Statement Of Reasons (SOR) for every TRO - so they have to have justifcation for proposing it. Unless anyone knows differently and the rules are different for the parks? This maybe worth putting in writing if anyone local that knows the lanes is going to complain? I deal with TRO's everyday and write them myself, so if I can offer any information let me know.
  2. Interesting article in my inbox this morning for all those thinking of getting a helmet: Dft Article: Motorcycle helmet ratings Which leads to: http://dft-1-sharp.eduserv.org.uk/ ...loads of advice on ratings, fit etc. It may seem good to cut corners, but 'it'll never happen to me' always happens to someone.
  3. Don't worry - wasn't thinking of this week - just an 'as and when/if', if not there's always Billing B) Woo! Well I was planning on getting the refurbed anyway (as you know) so no need to worry too much. I don't need them quite yet anyway! Safe journey.
  4. Oh the shame I realised I'm due at a 'girly cinema night' tomorrow As my first ever 'girls night out' in Hampshire (ever?) I think if I bail out and the excuse has anything to do with Land Rovers I would be killed. Slowly. The bugger is I've got ot put cones out for lining contractors as well...so guess what I'll be doing at midnight tomorrow Like that's ever been a problem - I have a good tip of for a good cheap local butcher so a BBQ may well be on the cards - I can do food, Ryan can bring beer - you (and Jez/Zuz/Vinnie?) bring photos B) Let me know when you guys are available if you fancy it, if not we'll just come up to the lab to annoy you If there's any problems tomorrow and you can't get hold of Jez - ring Dan, he'll be working in the garage so available for towing should he be needed Anyway, back OT (sorry!) welcome back dude! B) (p.s. are the diffs ok )
  5. And how are we meant to do that if our evil bosses won't let us out until 6pm? Very inconsiderate ferry timings, you could have picked a weekend Will be great to see you back dude, we have to all do a beer/pizza/photo session please! B) I'm glad you used it for its true use, the 'keeping food cold' is just a cover story really!
  6. Awesome pictures Huge respect to Kim and Jez, that's just strengthened my resolve to spend the rest of the year alternating between the gym and the garage B)
  7. Ah. There was me hoping it would be like stiffened sports suspension Will be great to see you guys (and mouse) back, looking forward to a world of beer and vodka in celebration at Billing B)
  8. Yeah - it was an excellent weekend B) It's always been my favourite show as its in a stunning setting (I always make sure I get up as the suns coming up and take a wander around the site), always seems to get good weather and with the Camels and NTMKLRC it's always a sparkly weekend of beer/wine and chocolate Took me a while to find the autojumble, but I was glad I did. Managed to get a few bits and pieces for George (Dave if you decide you can't fit those wings in the workshop let me know ) which made me *very* happy. also got some contacts for some ellusive bits. Scrapheap was as usual, the adrenalin filled stress fest it should be. Shires did brilliantly and I was so glad it was a Shires/Camel final again. I noted they'd put the Disco's on the opposite sides of the arena so we couldn't have the big bundle we had last year! Excellent effort by both teams - same time next year chaps? Next year I'll be there with George and hopefully we can have some leafs represented in the twist off Only regret was I didn't have a chance to get to the driving Challenge guy sorted out But the Scrapheap took up most of Sunday. Looking forward to next year, be good to see you there Si, [ whisper ] glad you had a good weekend [ /whisper ]
  9. The comment on my text message was: 'not bad for a test drive' But also ' Amazing sunset over the lake as we site here drinking long drink by the fire' so hopefully they're having some well deserved r&r. Excellent result B) Just coming back safely has got to be a bonus. Looking forward to seeing them all back in England for a beer or three
  10. Noooooooooooooooooo Update asap if anyone gets one!
  11. Fingers (and toes!) crossed 28minutes has got to be good work B)
  12. Thanks Alexander - those are cool pictures B) Good to see the guys out there after all their efforts. As for the John picture - guess who's finishing the editing the Shire LRC Newsletter this month...
  13. Completely agree - don't think I've ever seen him look any different
  14. Excellent news good luck to Urvo and you other crazy proto nutters Also excellent news re: Eddie B) Looking forward to seeing the on-stage pics
  15. Yeah, fair comment. I just tend to get phone calls from lots of people who moan before thinking, everyone did sound pretty frustrated! Don't forget all your friendly highway engineers drive the roads too - if it were an easy solution then we would have done it ages ago The problem is the size of the UK, the 101 services, gas, water etc that are *all* under the highway (something that doesn't happen as much abroad) and the massive car dependancy - it all adds up to chaos Still, I'm off to Somerset tonight, it's bank holiday weekend so I fully expect to spend the evening getting annoyed at the road works and cursing other peoples traffic management Have a good weekend all
  16. Blimey, anger management needed on this thread I think. Suprisingly enough, anyone who works in highways cannot explain the actions of AN Other maintenence worker. We don't know them all personally and have no control over the way they drive. If you're that annoyed, ring the contractors and have a go at them. Having travelled extensively through France and Italy and through tons of road works they *do* have roadworks there, but clearly just not when your travelling on the roads your travelling - a bit of common sense needed here? If you have a complaint about the road works and you consider them to be unsafe it's likley they're NOT following the guidelines and best you report it. The only way to get things changed is to let people know there's problems. When they're done right they work well, when there's no thought put into them it's a huge cockup. Right, back to talking about Land Rovers and being happy
  17. Bish is right The ones your talking about aren't legally enforceable - they're their to help the road surface and prevent damage to vehicles. Any legally enforceable speed limit must have the correct signing, correct layout and a TRO to back it up (as Bish said), it would be a very long winded and expensive process if we had to do this for every road that was surface dressed. Jen (Your friendly traffic management and road safety engineer )
  18. Well I got a few bits and pieces, not even half my list - but sometimes even the biggest Sodbury can go like that so I'm not complaining. We walked around the whole of the LR Autojumble in about an hour, but didn't make it round the whole of the rest of the show. It was nice to see some other interesting vehicles, although the classic car market can be even scarier than the LR market - some of the prices are huge... I'll stick to my rusty old IIA It was a shame that the clubs weren't all put in the LR field. It seemed as though they were trying to 'join up' the shows by putting some LR stalls in the motormart field but visibile from the Sodbury one - but it just resulted in Wessex and Shires getting a bit lost amougst the bits of Jag/Mini etc. Good to meet up with a few of the usual suspects and even nicer to have to make 3x trips to XEng to try and catch them when they didn't have a huge queue B) Beaulieu's a beautiful setting and it was nice wandering around the autojumble, hopefully it'll only get bigger.
  19. Or a large caravan! That's what I love about Land Rovers and camping though, enough options usually to satisfy everyone
  20. The cooking problem is easily solved with an awning, at least that's what we used. You'll find most roof tents have a section on the bottom as well to make for a convient room for cooking/dressing etc. should you need one. Tbh though, in 5 months of travelling we never used it and only used the awning a handful of times. Being out under the sun or stars is much nicer B) It doesn't sound like a roof tent is for you then. Although it should be said - we have air beds in ours, the matteress suplied was more than adequate, but I need a very comfy bed and they do work out well. Lovely Just beware of the size of oztents, they don't pack down small and if you fill the back of a 90 usually you'll struggle with getting that in there. I know of people with 90's that have had to have friends carry them as they are too large. Not overly practical ...although I also know people that love theirs. The setting up camp for a couple of days is the only drawback. Although it doesn't matter to us as we don't tend to do it (easily bored!). When we have done though a small 3 man tent that packs away to nothing is stored in the rope boxes in the Camel and used if we know we're going to be hanging around... again, in 5 months we only used it once. Horses for courses...
  21. Ours is a 35 with a temp readout... and there's a hole in the cover to allow you to read it...
  22. As does ours. Cheapest place I found was mps4x4, but we brought through them new on ebay which meant it was a nice bit cheaper The one bit of kit I wouldn't want to be without now.
  23. Shires will be there on Sunday We've only got a tiny little stand, but as it's in Hampshire it would be rude not too.
