  1. I would agree with the Pure route, I run a Pure Highway with a external mag mount aerial, drive all over the UK and very rarely loose signal, even worked outside a certain engineering firm in West Sussex.....
  2. Just got back from helping to set up, the "outback" section is very claggy clay, rest of the site is not too bad. Remember your brave pills, got a bit carried away with some sections
  3. True Chris got into the bog using his winch and drive assistance, coming out however with no drive assistance is a very different matter, sure saying a electric winch couldn't do it was over the top, I blame the wine, tho I do think more then some would need to do a double line pull. Several posters made the comment you could not drive assist with hydraulic winches, I was pointing out this was not the case. Oh dear. Not my product, I don't work for Red just a happy customer. I am lead to believe the Jackals are being retro fitted with Red winches, if you know different, then I am very happy for you.
  4. Not sure I agree, the plumbing is the same, only the wires are full of fluid rather then electirckery. You can drive assist with a hydraulic setup, and I would never winch off something that may come loose ! That unimog hybrid in the bog was a massive load, I doubt any electric winch would have got it out in a month of Sundays. As I say above, you can drive assist with a hydraulic setup, however more often then not you don't need to, as the the power of the winch is more then enuf. The RED winch is standard fitment on the Supacat Jackal so has been thru a very strict MOD procurement process, civilian version is made to the same spec (with a smaller motor) so it can easily out perform the specs quoted, a lot of cheap winches don't even reach the specs quoted. Booty, I have 150ft of 12mm on my RED Winch.
  5. Hydraulics are not complex, you don't need PTO to be quick, and drive assist is not a problem, tho with the power you don't often need to ;-) When the twin motor 8274's lets you down, hydraulic get you out :-)
  6. Ruu I will let you know if I am competing in the 90 or marshaling in the Disco on Sunday week, depends on the success of the major winch upgrades, sorry I can't give more notice either way.
  7. You can install two hydraulic winches for less then a twin giggle pins, and with the right setup have more power, speed and a better duty cycle. I can vouch for the quality of the RED winch and unlike to the Milemarker the high gear is more then usable. The last winch challenge I did was mainly done in high gear, low get used for general recovery, and when you need to be delicate like bending trailing arms back into shape I've found 26cc pump (engine driven) and 160cc motor gave me the best all round performance.
  8. Sorry don't have photos of the removal process, but you can see what you are left with from these, so you know what you need to take off. Remove the roof and sides first, fuel filler, seatbelts ect, this exposes the tub, with the tub off you get. Measure twice and cut once. Not sure I would have got it so accurate with the tub on. Job jobbed.
  9. I've done it both ways, ohh er, and removing the tub makes it much easier and does not take that long, also helps you sort out all the other chassis related niggles as you have easy access, (refitting the tub temporarily for lineup purposes) .I don't have a guide but do have some photos if that is of any help.
  10. Cracking photo's, apart from the one of Mark, obviously.
  11. He tried to drive out, dug four holes and ended up on his chassis, with that and the massive peat bank I'm surprised the rope didn't snap to be honest. The weld on one of the recovery points hadn't dried......
  12. I only took the one photo, Lyndon having to double up to get out of the boggy remains of the old pond below the tea hut. I think we should charge people for recoveries when they do winch only sections, with no winch. Couple of quid towards Sussar, would have earned a fortune !
  13. Just noticed they don't mention the power of the winch motor.
  14. I have been running the RED pump system for over a year now a have had no issues with it, the crank pulley is a replacement for the original, no danger of it slipping.
  15. They are limiting it to 50 vehicles, so if planning to go book early to avoid disappointment. www.mud-monsters.co.uk
  16. Redwinches make one, not sure if Mr Bowyer has copied it yet
  17. What size pump are you planning on using and how are you going to drive it ?
  18. The Mud Mud Monsters event is not winch only, there will be quite a few punches for non-winch vehicles so suitable for all, it is a punch hunt not a winch challenge. My bitch can't make it so I will be marshaling on the day, if you ask nicely I'll winch you into a stage to get a punch and then out again
  19. It was a one off made by North, not sure who owned it before but the vehicle was broken for spares. Lyndon re-built tne North frame on it's current platform, not much of the "original" remains. MrKev, the woman at the ford thought it was for the exclusive use of her watering her horse, we'll not her as such, some poor kid had to take it into the water. I politely pointed out her error and we washed our wheels, she started to take photo's and when she got a bit close as Heidi reversed the Disco I had to include it :-)
  20. Some video, well until ewetube pull it for the soundtrack.
  21. Excellent day out, spend most of it winching people out ;-) thanks to the organizers.
