  1. Thanks gents. Les that helps a lot, looks like a bit more tweaking is needed
  2. I'm about to fit a Disco 200TDi in my 110. I hope to do the conversion over a long weekend and want to sort out any issues before hand. Rather than buying/fabricating the exhaust down pipe, I want to use the Disco downpipe, with a bit of fettling to the bulkhead. Has anyone done this to their vehicle and if so do you have any pictures of the bulkhead mods, also did you have any problems during or after the conversion. Having seen the Steve Parker noodle I'm not very keen on it, and prefer a more flowing exhaust path. Thanks p.s. Tried various searches but didn't find any directly relating to this.
  3. Wipac Crystal reflectors with Phillips X-treme Vision bulbs, followed by a relay/wiring upgrade soon after.
  4. Swivel balls aside, if there wasn't a market for cheap junk, the manufacturers wouldn't be in business, how many on here haven't looked at oem/quality parts and then bought the cheap pattern junk because of the cost difference. Buying quality kit goes against many peoples nature these days, just take a look at any high street.
  5. After following some recommendations from the Candlepower forum, I fitted some Wipac Crystal reflectors, Phillips extreme vision lamps and the relay upgrade. They are the best legal headlights I have used, even compared to 110watt bulbs with the relay upgrade. Its not just the power but the colour and beam spread that makes all the difference. I'm just about to remove the driving lights as they just aren't needed.
  6. They are a tuning aid, not much use in day to day driving unless your engine is running near the limit and/or your going up and down big mountains regularly. Fuel mixtures are opposite to petrols, more fuel gives more power to a point, very basically if you have too much you get unburnt fuel and combustion continues in the exhaust system increasing egt's burning valves and turbos -please take note of the commnet underlined and in bold before the pedant in you rips me to bits.
  7. But it will only be a quarter of the cost of the U.K to produce it.
  8. Having had this problem on a few vehicles, I believe what happens is the seal in the master cylinder doesn't move far enough back, therefore not allowing any new fuid in from the reservoir. In normal use the the clutch pushes the seal back far enough via the slave cylinder. best method for bleeding that I've found is to reverse bleed the system, I use a garden sprayer to do it.
  9. Funny... but I had to do a brief today to my team, about a man who was killed by a 115mm grinder and wire wheel, the wheel caught his snood around his neck and pulled it so tight it strangled him. I've got some some good sized holes in t shirts from similar incidents.
  10. Have a look at the HSE website http://www.hse.gov.uk/lev/ You can download it for free, there is loads of useful info on there regarding designs of LEV and how they work. and as robertspark said cyclone filters are pretty easy to build yourself, loads of info on the web. Or just buy a dry ice blaster:)
  11. You get the CEQ (Carbon equivalent) from the analysis though.
  12. It tells you the grade as well, I use one occasoinally, wont tell you about heat treatments though.
  13. Find a scrap yard (probably a larger one) and ask if they have a Niton analyzer, and ask them to do a check. It takes about 30seconds and wil tell you the grade of steel you have.
  14. Never liked the RV8, weak under powered and bloody expensive to do anything with, played with Yanks for many years and if I was to to do a V8 swap it would be a yank, but I wouldn't bother doing a swap because I'd have to change everything thing else, gearboxes axles etc etc to make it reliable, much easier to go and buy a yank pick-up, which I've had a few of. Modern vehicle transplants are interesting from a technical point of view but I want a simple to fix vehicle (hammer and spanner), reasonable power, good torque, reliability and simplicity............... a diesel
  15. My 2.5N/A has a meagre 45 CCA, starts on the button every time, as already stated check your wires, battery terminals and earths are all in good order first, then look at your glow plugs. When checking your wiring and terminals, disconnect them and clean them thoroughly ensuring a good metal to metal contact.
  16. Send it back to them in the post, without a stamp. They get charged postage and have to collect from the post office. Does wonders for junk mail.
  17. Twin core????? Fuse, single wire and short earth wire as close to the outlet as possible.
  18. Thanks Pete, I've got an electric fan sat in the garage from my old Disco which I could fit, another project for the weekend...
  19. First upgrade, after doing a full service, was to replace the front candles, sometimes known as headlights . Fitted a pair of Wipac crystal reflectors with Phillips lamps, and did the relay with decent size wiring mod while I was there. I can actually see the road ahead now.
  20. Hi It's been a while since i was last on here. I went to the dark side with an RB44, but i sold it to fund another project, which is taking longer than anticipated, so I picked up a 110 2.5n/a today to fill the driveway and have something to play with. First impressions are positive, the engine isn't as bad as I was expecting, after reading all the doom and gloom reviews on tinternet, cruises at 65 and even touched the speed limit for a while, its a bit noisy and feels a bit small and delicate after the RB though. I'll stick some pics up and progress as I go along.
  21. A turbo is a compressor, it requires power to drive it, not as much as a supercharger, but it still takes power. Like I said, no free lunch.
  22. Turbos also rob you of power, by adding a restriction in the exhaust. There is no such thing as a free lunch, they're both pretty close in power drain. But Turbos are much cheaper to produce and fit, hence the manufacturers preference for them. Personally I cant see the point in sticking a supercharger on TDi just tweak the turbo, intercooler etc. If you want loads of "usable" power, no point having a high power, narrow power band engine in an offroad vehicle, then stick a bigger engine in. Some Detroit diesels Run twin turbos and a supercharger but they were 2 stroke engines, the sound is amazing.
  23. O.K try thesehttp://www.tvhuk-catalogue.co.uk/browse_product.aspx?mode=level1&level1=70000&level2=268848
  24. yep that 21% oxygen is a real problem, leaking out of my tyres 3 times faster than the Nitrogen. Maybe if I couldn't check my tyre pressures for the next 10 years it "might" make it worthwhile.
  25. You could try these http://store.camozzi.co.uk/Catalogue/Connection/Fittings-Accessories/Aluminium-Distribution-Manifold-Blocks save a lot of messing about
