Ludicrously huge door club unite! My E Coupé requires parking next to a column in underground parking garages, really. Only way to get in and out.

A Classic body is a fair bit narrower, and there are some honking big chassis rails coming right up to the side of the P38. But the wheelbase should be about the same as an LSE, so might be worth a shot.

And general car forums are even worse - the extent of most of the pots on those revolve around nothing more technical than which flavour of car shampoo to use or which alloy wheels look best.
Ha, I remember when I first got my Merc, I wanted to hardwire in a dashcam. So I made a post on MBWorld, asking for advice.
The only answer I ever got was "nice car". Apart from that, I think most people clutched their pearls and fainted at the suggestion of doing that to a brand new car.

Reminds me of when I got banned on RR.net for telling the admin to get his head out of his behind

So not even legal on a B licence?

Out of the box idea: how about gear driven from the engine somehow? Maybe hooking into the starter gear? On a V8 with the steel sump that would be relatively simple as there's an inspection plate on the bottom part of the bellhousing.

Use a P38 version and they are electrically shifted, no?
Yup. Very simple to control too, all the limit switches are inside the motor.
Seems a bit overkill though

Does it get used off-road? If so, try cleaning off the skidplates.

@Escape had a bunch of issues running a pump off a chain drive on this 90, but IIRC that was mainly due to the pump clutch?
-
Yeah, it was either
* VM + LT77
* 200TDi + LT77
* 300TDi + R380So it's likely you'll need the 300TDi/R380 slave, which according to this diagram should be FT5072, as you said.
Are you 100% sure it's an R380 (reverse under 5th) and not an LT77 (reverse next to 1st)? For an LT77 it should be either FTC2498 or TKC2786L.

It's amazing how quickly and nicely you reproduce all these bits.

Very sad to hear

Are you sure it's a 200 and not a 300? Only the 300 came with an R380 AFAIK.

Again, at that point there's bigger problems anyway.
That I'm not disputing
But the discussion started out as an electric back-up to the PTO/engine driven pump, which I do think can be very useful.

a well maintained engine shouldn't stop unless you're upside-down or completely underwater
Or you stall it and it won't restart because the starter has been sitting underwater in a swamp for 24 hours...

Did you verify that the files were actually encrypted?
But yes, always a bad idea to expose things through the internet without a VPN...

Sounds like a thread for @Escape. He had, and again has on the new build, a serpentine-belt driven pump in place of the aircon compressor. From my understanding, there's only so much power you can put through a seperpentine belt, and that's pretty much a tradeoff of speed vs pulling power. So by sacrificing speed you can retain the pulling power.
The setup in Mouse was nice, but has the downside of a lot of custom components I think. The rad on the 109 is still in front, right? Then you suddenly have a pump fighting for space with a rad, doesn't sound ideal.
The winch in Mouse had a two-speed motor, which was excellent for spooling up rope. Nearly made me sprint if you put the revs up a bitDo you really need a super-fast winch though? You're not doing winch challenges, and a few minutes of extra time spooling up rope vs a few grand extra for a fancy pump, I know which I'd choose It'll pull you through the bog or up a hill all day long anyway, might just take a little bit longer.

That was tried & failed, the suction on it & lack of recovery points rendered a lot of perfectly good recovery techniques useless
Nope, opposite side, other waterfall, the bit they're stuck in is the stream that feeds the waterfall so riiiiight up the top of a really horrible section, winches & lockers needed to get up there.
That's a gnarly section, I remember us having a moment there in Mouse many years ago. I get your "recovery from hell" text now

Oh, that looks like a fun little thing!

So I left for work this morning but all was not well. Every time I stopped at a junction I left a cloud of steam when I pulled away, I managed to lessen this by running with a loose pressure cap but safe to say it's dead. I've ordered another head gasket and I'll pull the head off the other engine (got to remove it for the rebuild anyway). Hopefully that'll sort it for now. I suspect I cracked the head somewhere in the inlet or exhaust tract when adding cold water to a hot engine in the Hebrides and didn't spot it before machining unfortunately.

Starting to sound like the saga of my 300TDi. That most likely had a cracked block.

I've stacked some rocks in the past to get the car levelled out a bit. Recently saw a produce for D3/D4s that hooks into the air suspension and operates the bags until the phone app says it's level - that's a super neat idea. But doesn't really solve the problem of things getting a bit wallowy.

Edit: I stand corrected. It looks like the manual discovery trigger wheel is indeed 36+1 and can be used with MS. See here: http://www.super7thheaven.co.uk/rover-v8-trigger-wheel-megasquirt/. OK so this is pushing me back towards MS as that's a real boon for me in keeping the engine bay as simple as possible.
The auto flywheel has the same trigger wheel
And the later Thor/Bosch has a 60-2 wheel.

I think in the original post the guy said that they're stackable to do just that, yes.
