  1. Hehe yes, and some lessons on using it! Luckily i know a few people who can weld and have the kit but would like to learn at some point. The more i think about it the more a north offroad d-lander thing appeals - totally customisable and great fun....hmm, TD5 power
  2. I'm not afraid of welding, just dont own a welder. As for time, well summer is coming so weekends and evenings after work, not got anything better to do with my time!
  3. As you may or may not know i wrote my 90 TD5 off a month ago, i was planning on buying it back but they wanted a silly ammount of money and after inspecting it and reading the report from the engineer i am not gonna touch it for that kinda money! So, now i have a wad of cash (not huge but enough!) and am wondering what i should get, do i get another 90, do i go TD5 or V8 (i'd like to keep to diesel but not essential), or shall i get somthing like an old disco and convert it into the North offroad fibreglass freelander thing? If i went 90 i'd probably chop it front and back to shorten it, truck cab her and then do the usual front and rear winches... So, suggestions on what to do/get, i'm not shy of putting in hard work and have a reasonable ammount of tools etc (no welder tho).
  4. As long as it fits properly then i cant see why it should be problematic.
  5. Its a pretty attractive propositon really.....
  6. Now i'm no expert but surely the brace across the roof on the cage should run the other way above the driver, just like a single diagonalbrace for a hoop always has the top above the driver?
  7. Any reccomendations on where to purchase an extinguisher for £30?
  8. The kit is the same, PRO stuff certainly carries international warranties, and most consumer stuff does too these days and its not to say they wont fix it even if it is imported, you just might have to pay. There are very few pitfalls, use a reputable seller and it couldnt be easier - it can be a big risk the first time with large sums and unknown dealers but i took the plunge years ago and have not looked back, i also rarely get charged duty or vat, which makes it even sweeter
  9. Occasionally jessops do well, however its only when they match internet prices. I have also found as a semi-pro photographer that jessops is mainly staffed by badly informed muppets, this isnt always the case but its fairly normal. Personally i import stuff direct from HK, or buy from specialist suppliers around the UK if my man in HK cant get it.
  10. As far as i'm aware its 30degrees lateral movement, and unrestricted vertical movement so the johnny joint shouldnt restrict it in any way
  11. I cant comment directly on the comparison but i have used an allisport intercooler before and have to say it was excellent, and the service andrew gives is second to none.
  12. A nice healthy debate...or a can of worms. Still its good to see technical discussion of innovative products but can we please keep it friendly as bitching never got anyone anywhere!
  13. I know this shouldn't be funny but it just is... I have a few of my own methods
  14. I'll look into it, thanks Henry
  15. Loads of people make Ali ones, rufftracks and devon 4x4 spring to mind. I only know of one SS one off the top of my head and thats devon 4x4.
  16. I didnt buy XP, already got it from my last build so just reinstalled on my new machine. As for the free upgrade, its a tricky one as its actually only open to "system builders" and MS claim you need to prove you are a approved system builder to get the upgrade free, hence the OEM copies sold through normal channels might or might not actually be upgraded for free, that will become clear in time.
  17. Who would i speak to about that Henry?
  18. I considered it when i built my new machine last month, however as i couldnt get a legit copy back then i didnt bother. XP does the job just fine and when the driver bugs etc are ironed out of the 64bit version i'll move over to that as itll go well with my C2D chip and buckets of ram i run
  19. Cheers all Good to hear everyones opinions on these things before i go spending money
  20. Thanks for the info on the joints So - anyone know how the extended arms themselves perform?
  21. http://www.gigglepin4x4.net/arms/armsindex.htm
  22. So, who has them and what are they like in action? I'm not familiar with these "johnny joints" either - if anyone could enlighten me i'd be appreciative
  23. Well he seemed to know his stuff and can change anything i like, add/remove/move bits, its an extra £300 for a winch rear crossmember, extra £80 for roll cage mounts all jigged up to fit a north offroad cage and if i like he will raise/lower mounts etc for suspension.
  24. 40mph smash at the front has shunted the o/s rail backwards twisting the whole thing.
  25. I'd also be interested to know what these are. I've been sailing for years (i'm an instructor too) and have never come across these syntheticrope shackle!
