  1. Vat and import duty are paid upon import to the UK, not purchase in the USA. Also dont forget VAT is added to everything, purchase price, import duty, shipping...the lot!
  2. Thanks for the link - looks like its worth considering. As for shipping charges, £100/$200 is a lot of shipping and should easily cover it, and my sums above cover import duty, shipping and vat on the whole lot
  3. The shipper will definatly ship to the UK. I rekon on the final price being approx £650 (winches) + £100 (shipping) + £33.75 Import + £137 VAT = £920 all in, delivered duty paid. Now compare that to £927 PER WINCH in the UK and all of a sudden it seems worth while As for warranty - Milemarker are international so i cant see it being a problem, also (touch wood) the hydraulic winches are so reliable i cant see it breaking within the 4yr warranty period anyway without me doing somthing silly, which wouldnt be covered.
  4. There is a BIG list of 16000+ categories and sub-categories of import duties. If i have worked it correctly, and a winch could be classed as: I think the TARIC code (import duty code) would be 8708 10 90 whihc is a mere 4.5% Import Duty, then the dreaded VAT of course.
  5. I've done weasels with import duty in the past, and succeeded. I somehow think a bunch of hyddraulic winches on a crate weighing in the region of 80-100lbs EACH might just make them wonder whats inside so i shall be legit. The thing is not everything is subject to import duty, some items are NIL rated and others vary from 1-2% upto 20% so it varies massively and i still believe there are huge savings to be had.
  6. Does anyone have experience in buying parts from the US and importing them, the reason i ask is the exchange rate is magnificent at the moment and i can effectively get 2 for the price of 1 on many parts. In particular i have been wanting a decent hydraulic winch setup, Milemarker 12,000lb front and 10500lb rear - which totals just $1298 = £657!!! excluding shipping (and tax) - less than the cost of a single unit in the UK! It seems daft to pay over the odds but i also dont want to be shafted by import tax and the likes so any advice is welcome
  7. 50x50 ally box, or 50x75 if you want them to stick out more, simply cut to length, drill and bolt together. Here is some further info from X-eng http://www.x-eng.co.uk/x-protect.asp although i do think 4mm wall is massively oversized for strength when you compare it to the relatively weak tub walls.
  8. Glad people think they are good - i got bored earlier to took the 120mile round trip to go to their shop for "fun" and spent £100 on some air tools and a few bits and pieces. The service was excellent and prices still seem good
  9. Actually they arent the same. Asda setup is on proper Fuji processing and printing machines, commercial ones - the kodak kiosks are nothing more than a pc with a printer attached in a fancy stand! The difference in quality is massive and personally, i would never print any of my portrait, wedding or other commercial pics on the kodak self-serve machines, but its all down to personal preference. The Fuji machines suit my colour tones/work very well. As for home printers, you are right, they are viable however as you said shops are quicker, easier and most definatly better quality so its a bi of false economy owning a home "photo" printer - unless its dye-sublimation, but thats a different matter all together
  10. Well i was given a 1/2" Air ratchet wrench and am about to buy some other tools, so if they are good i shall go back to axminster as they are certainly keenly priced
  11. Has anyone used axminster tools, both as a supplier and/or as an actual manufacturer?? My dad recommended them to me, he seems to spend far too much at their shop and their prices seem good, they also rate their kit (and everything they sell) with DIY/Trade/Industrial use ratings so you know what abuse it takes. So...opinions and experiences please EDIT: Web address www.axminster.co.uk
  12. As a photographer i can safely say that Photobox is reagrded as one of the best online printers around. However if you care to take a trip, Asda's prints are superb and also come on a nice satin sheen paper, half way between matt and gloss which is perfect for, well, everything
  13. Excellent thread, glad this has cropped up as i have been hoping to install a MM hydraulic setup in my "new" 90 when i build it and you've just provided a whole heap of really useful info
  14. Thanks for the input chaps, i'm near poole so both southampton and yeovil are possible
  15. Is there a mirror for this file as i cant get it to download, it starts off nice and quickly but "stalls" at 4% downloaded and thats it, just sits and waits! I've tried downloading through both firefox and IE.
  16. Does anyone know anywhere in dorset or hampshire (pref dorset) that does evening courses in welding and paint spraying? I've looked at "the college" but they only seem to do course for immigrants wanting to learn english or people who need basic maths help
  17. MM seem to quote max air displacement rather than the more useful free air CFM, another misleading bit of data!! Ho hum, i shall keep searching.
  18. I was given the impression that the ET2's are much better than the ET's on rock, and with tread mods are just as good as ET's in mud. Every tyre is a compromise but the ET2 is one i would be willing to make on my truck
  19. What would you use to cut the nobbles off?
  20. Hmm, looks good but we need not only specs on the turbo, but also the install details and of course some torque/bhp figures to see what difference it has made!
  21. Any reccomendations on the actual compressor, i'm finding it hard to locate one that kicks out enough free-air CFM with a budget of £300 ish?
  22. So are the clarke ones ok for the money, being at the cheaper end of the market i dont expect miracles but if they are ok...
  23. I dont have money to burn, i'd rather spend it on the build although would like some good quality tools that wont break after first use so its swings and roundabouts!
  24. Are there any brands of air tools that should be avoided or any that can be recommended?
