  1. Excellent, cheers. Looks like they were just 10 miles from where i used to live, how bloody annoying!
  2. How would one go about contacting Rakeway?
  3. I dont see why the KAM uprated shafts and CV's should be any less strong than the uprated Ashcroft stuff - i personally likwe the idea of the solinoid actuated locker too, especially wiht an LSD componant. No airlines to worry about, no compressor or tank needed.....i guess its one of them you takes you money and makes your choice type things, i'm still undecided as to go KAM lsd/lockers and shafts or go ARB/ashcroft route.
  4. I've always thought that the KAM lsd/locker combination looked like a fantastic way of having your cake and eating it, LSD's on the road are fab, especially with tyres like simex and off road they work very well, add the option of a manual over-ride to this to lock them fully and it really screams best of both worlds....in practice it may be different but on paper it works! EDIT: http://www.kamdiffs.com/pdf/DIFLOK%7E4b.pdf is the info on it, kit also includes strengthened shafts so not too bad for the money.
  5. I'm looking for a material or specs on materials, it is a plastic or rubber that is used in the sort of soft touch coooking utensil handle type industry...anyone know what it is?
  6. Aah but is that why they are blown, because you set them by feel?
  7. Thanks andy, that is tuely grim, i'm never eating spagetti from a can again (not that i did before)
  8. Thanks for the info guys Lewis - cheers for the offer, sadly not so local any more (long story!)
  9. Oops sorry dude, opened a can-o-worms there then. I was just wondering if you were working local to uttox!!
  10. Hmm, black ones are coool, but even better if you own the supercharged sport to go with Where do you work Lewis?
  11. Any recommendations for chassis paint, i've always thought that the concept of the "Brian" was great but i understand some of the application leaves a bit to be desired, plus i'd want to do it myself. So is there anything available, epoxy paint, or teflon based paint that is suitable for chassis/underbody painting that will withstand heat, mud, water and general LR abuse?
  12. Bloody Hell!! I found that with my Allisport intercooler and plug in tuning box i returned the same, if not better MPG despirt having many many extra horses to play with, and using them regually!!
  13. I'm a member of glass, and have to say that whilst its a good organisation they dont seem to have been very pro-active with NERC and things. Certainly from a public facing point of view CRAG seem to be doing a great deal more
  14. Srange, LR must have gone away from smooth roofs in recent years because my 2004 90CSW has got ridges in the roof.
  15. Has anyone got any tables of data to compare BB, CDS, T45, Clubman 500 and redband - things like strength, weight per meter, cost etc?
  16. If you were to fit just one large bolt, you could actually machine a cylindrical slipper which is threaded for the top, chamfer the top edge and voila, captive slipper pad, no possible damage from steel-on-steel contact and probably easier to setup than using a non-captive pad and 2 smaller bolts.
  17. It would appear to float, being held in place by the dog screw on one side (or bolt!) and the back of the crown wheel on the other. If you were to fix the pad, by means of say epoxy resin you wouldnt be able to adjust the pressure applied or take up slack caused by wear on the phosphor bronze.
  18. Just a big thumbs up from me about everyone on this forum. I'm a bit of a dunce at times (university qualified in engineering too!), whilst i might be able to drive (within reason) my mechanical vehicle knowledge is er, missing some bits, but since joining here i have found that everyone is not only friendly but very tolerant of silly questions and willing to share their knowledge. So just a thanks really, and i hope to pick your brains even more over the coming months...
  19. Argh - i spent hours reading the mass debate in another thread on this forum yesterday!!! Very in depth but interesting reading. I also found out that the Dynatrac axles from Maddison 4x4 (Dana prorock 60) in defender setup fro front and rear is a mere $14,000 - which i recon after import, shipping and taxes (good ol vat) you wouldnt see change from 10K - thats a fair few upgraded LR axles. Still, i digress. Thanks for the info Nige (and others), most appreciated.
  20. I recognise that avatar pic from elsewhere!! As i said, CAT1 is the only way to go (not worth getting just a cat2) - I had a Toad AI606 on my old 110 TD5, worked a treat. Look up installers in the yellow pages, but its always best to get recommendations to know you get a good job done. Also ensure you get an insurance cert fully stamped when its installed.
  21. So Nige, would a 4 pin, pegged (and ARB) diff be the way to go belt and braces using standard rover kit?
  22. Does diff pegging have the same effect as fitting a 4 pin diff??
  23. So it fits between the 2?? I'd guess its probably lighter than CDS and not as light as T45 though?
  24. I think the bit about home education just about sums it up
