  1. The problem is you will find it very hard to stop a thief who is determined, and if you make it as close to thief proof as possible, it is a real ball-ache, to lock it up and open-up again. I think most of us have to take some comfort in simply deterring the opportunist.
  2. Then you put a padlock though the Antiluce / Dropcatch and its all secure (and the rear door)
  3. Had a chat with them this morning stopped buying-in new stock for automotive bulbs 6 months ago apparently
  4. Ultra LEDS no longer doing automotive bulbs
  5. I was just thinking of replacing the sidelights stop tail (and indicators) Not the headlights Given my daily drive to work though the country lanes, I have a genuine use for DLRs (or otherwise driving with my headlights on), and rather than look flash, I was also thinking of fitting a stop & tail fitting in place of the front sidelamp, and using a clear LED stop and tail bulb in a clear lens, with the ‘Stop’ element wired as the DLR? I have read a lot of bad reports recently of very poor quality ‘Series’ type lamp fittings being sold, (mines is a 1989 110) I’d like to avoid these – and would be grateful for any pointers as to where I should look for both lamp fittings, and Clear LED tail and Stop bulbs cheers
  6. What would be the best choice / supplier to supply Electric Radiator Fan / Fans in a V8 Defender 110 ? Cheers
  7. Thanks for that - If this was e-bay, I'd be giving top marks for speedy service and packing - thanks
  8. Sorry another daft question Can you advise me as to the best source of a relaible but value for money source of LED Bulbs to fit in exisiting fittings (all round) 1989 110 V8 Thanks
  9. The RS components version is 5/8th and the original is M16 1.5 thread the GKN one has a fixed collar to space it - RS one has an adjustable nut Not sure how compatible they are http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/magnetic-pickups/0285756/?searchTerm=285-756&relevancy-data=636F3D3126696E3D4931384E525353746F636B4E756D6265724D504E266C753D656E266D6D3D6D61746368616C6C26706D3D5E5C647B337D5B5C732D2F255C2E2C5D5C647B332C347D2426706F3D313426736E3D592673743D52535F53544F434B5F4E554D4245522677633D4E4F4E45267573743D3238352D37353626
  10. Id be pleased to hear from anyone whos has got a set?
  11. Thanks very useful advice - I have a spare set of wing mirrors bought in 2003 because I was breaking so many - and like my spare prop shafts (touching wood here!) I haven't had an issue since !
  12. Has anyone fitted Sidelight and indicator repeaters to their wing mirrors? Apologies for all these streams of simple posts that don't mention exciting stuff like 'Boost Pins' but I'm hopeing that the wealth of knowledge on here can guide me through rebuilding of my V8 110 Id like to modify my wing mirrors ( I did say this wouldnt be 'exciting') to have heater elements and small LED sidelight and indicator repeaters? Has anyone done this - Got any advice? Do s and Donts? got any pictures how did you run the wires? Same if you fitted heated elements to you wing mirrors - did it work? cheers
  13. Anybody able to advise me where I can get a rev Counter suitable for a std V8, ideally with a range suited to a Std V8 - so 0 to 6000 RPM I guess, 52mm diameter and wouldnt look out of plsce in a 1989 110 binnacle? thanks
  14. That is very interesting Jeff, so do we then assume that you had bypassed the speed sensor? and were just using the switch on the gear lever ?
  15. I'm afraid Im in this camp, and while I do drive with a lot of sympathy for my Landrover(s) mainly through fear of expensive bills, (Im half Scots, and half 'Northern' so 'Tight' in other words ) there are times when I would forget to drop it out, usually approaching a difficult junction in strange location, and might set off with it engaged - but l could forsee a situation when I might grab reverse without thinking, maybe need ing to take evasive action (having drifited to a halt with it engaged) Or maybe because Im an aging numpty and prone to forgetfulness! the overdrive will be going on my Green laner, and main towing vehicle - so the consquences of forgetful aging numptyness could be much amplified! Cheers
  16. That is one of my concerns However, while I was trawling through the wealth of knowledge available on this excellent forum, I have come across posts pointing out that if you try to reverse with the OD engaged you instantly wreck the roller bearings, I assume this is a function of the Over Drive being dropped out below 30 MPH and you cant, (well probably wouldn't!) engage reverse whilst traveling forwards - How is the Overdrive otherwise disengaged? do you replace the control box with a relay linked to the reverse light switch (and how much would you want to rely on that?)
  17. Thanks reb78 - that is really useful information - I shall read it again (carefully) but it isn't immediately clear how compatible the RS (we have an account - they always have everything at a cost) is I did think that there would be a cheaper alternative What would be great is if there was somebody on here who had done it - I notice that our moderator Western Ralph is mentioned in the LRO forum thanks
  18. Anybody advise me as to where I can get a new speed sensor for my GKN Part number seems to be 119509/00/00
  19. Im a bit long in the tooth, and short in the memory, but it used to be bandied about that oxidisation / corrosion of the ally body panels could be reduced by fitting extra earth straps? anybody got any info? where would you fit them? From the same era, another possibly old wives tale was that Staion waggons were more susceptible to this corrosion? I have a truck cab with bad ally rot I'm fitting a galv chassis will this affect this? Cheers
  20. Id like to get some advice on what to buy and where to get some Roof Lights, Spot Lights, Driving Lights The main criteria is that they are excelent value for money - so the wont be the cheapest, andf they may nt be the Ulitmate - but they will be a good buy. The roof rack lights need to be fairly compact, and ideally would have a sidelight / dim dip / DLR capability. The Spots - or driving lights can be any size, and could have the side light / DLR function or even could 'Dip' (and advice on fog lights too) thanks
  21. I have an idea that I might get ridiculed for asking this but! Why don't people galvanise their steel wheel rims?
  22. I would welcome any comments or advise about using a 'Block heater' as used to be advertised by Kenlowe - I have a new American version (220Volt) and would like to install it in my 110 V8 Any advise? pros Cons / Dos Donts
  23. What are pros and cons of new stainless steel fasteners throughout when re-building onto a new Galv Chassis ? cheers
  24. Im on the point of getting a Rimmer bros SS system too for my 3.5 V8 110 - What are the pros and cons of NOT having the tubular manifolds? I assume that they are a slightly larger bore with fewer boxes (showing my ignorance here!) so Id still get a small performance increase? - I want to hear all that petrol (& LPG) but I don't want to be failing any MOTs etc? Cheers
