  1. I take it that I am right in saying that an 1987 petrol 90 would have a 10 spline. I am only checking as I am not at home just now. I just wondered as I was hunting and found some old 10 spline shafts but they had nuts on the end instead of the circlip, the one I have has a circlip. CrazyWabbit are you also working nights ?
  2. Will have to have a look when I get home, Offshore and that site is blocked for some reason. Thanks for that though - home Tuesday so have a look then.
  3. Hi do any of you know if you can get such a thing as a 10 spline heavy duty drive flange, been on the hunt but all I can find are 24's Regards Frax
  4. I hade the same problem with mine which is the same age but a 90. The wheel boxes were replaced last year and I found that the spindle crub screw had come loose. My last crub screws were siezed so I greased these up well which may have not been that good of an idea. Dont know what happened above as it did not post the text
  5. Another one to try. remove the brake bleed nipple and fit a grease nipple - then use a grease gun to pump the piston out. Waste's quite a bit of grease but has never failed me. You obviously need to give the calliper a good clean out afterwards but worth a go.
  6. It has been a while since I did my one but from what I remember it is just fitted to the headliner with two nuts. I remember there being a spade connection on the back plate but can not remember if that was for the earth or live. Sorry not much help really.
  7. Thanks for that - will have a read and see what is required. Yes it is the bearing in the front cover, I have ordered a bearing for the tensioner and will fit that to my spare as well.
  8. Sadly not that one, although I did change that pulley for a 2nd hand one as I did think it was that to start with but sadly no. Its the bearing for the pulley that the fan connects to. I have had a hunt and it does not look good so far as most people say that the whole cover has to be replaced.
  9. Hi all I have a squeal coming from the idle pulley on my timing belt cover, it was a bugger to find but today I removed the belt and started her up and no noise. I fitted a new water pump and alternator last year so was hopping that they were still OK. Anyway with the belt removed the squeal stopped the bearing does not feel that bad but does have very slight play and sound dry. Has anyone had the replace the bearings for one of these, I am not looking forward to this job as the cover will have to be removed for a start. Any advice welcome.
  10. To high and to wide, you would need to remove the center seat or cubby box for a start. I have seen a Range Rover rear seat fitted to the front. You may be able to do it but not sure how low you will be able to get the seat to the seat box, let us know how you get on if you go for it.
  11. They look the same as the ones I have on my 300tdi 1995, I know that this is probably not much help.
  12. Leave rear tub loose (fit rear sides)with all bolts in place then fit the bulkhead, again loose as you need to trial to trial fit the doors and do the alignment to get the doors gaps correct. A lot of trial and error but it is worth taking the time to get it correct. Buy a set of mixed jubilee clips - you will need them. I would then fit the windscreen and roof again checking the door gaps as you go. well this is how I did my one.....
  13. As far as I remember the ring is too big to fit behind the pin, I could be wrong though.
  14. I would take the floor out and if need be cut some more floor out and plate it back when the job is done. Its one heck of a job to lift the body.
  15. Seen this before, remove the gator on the gear handle and put it in diff lock and go for a run. I think you will find that the leaver is hitting the gear box tunnel opening and as you drive the engine moves and the leaver hits the tunnel edge and jumps out. Easy to have a look and could be your problem. The leavers do feel a bit spongy as they go through a load of linkages. Let me know how you get on.
  16. I find that a good knock with a hammer on the head of the bolt till you get a dull thud noise works a treat. If you can send a shock through the bolt it will also disturb any corrosion and you then have a chance of it coming out. Works for me but don’t go to daft with the hammer.
  17. Well I will have to order a set of mintex for my one. Thanks for the recomendations. The EBC pads did not help the braking even with drilled and groved disks. I did expect them to wear down quicker with this type of disk which I dont mind if they are doing a good job. Frax
  18. Well I was never impressed with the pad performance; they have been in for a year now and still have a lot of meat on them. It might be hard to ware down a sponge...
  19. Hi all I was having some strange noises coming from don’t know where but it only happened after driving for 3 or more miles, I would then get a noise like a scraping fan. Switched the heater on and off but this made no difference at all. Radiator fan off as it electric still no difference. Checked both props as I just replaced them both a few weeks ago. found nothing wrong. Checked all steering rods as these were replaced at the same time with heavy duty ones, still nothing. Next was the wheels - on removing the wheels I found that my brake disks (drilled and grooved) to be blocked - all the holes and the groves with a pasty pooo stuff. This was found to be coming from the pads which seamed to have went soft on the surface. The wear groves in the pads were full of this paste - cleaned it all up on no more noise. I think as he pads or disks heated the noise started - OK when cold. These were recommended but I for one wont buy them again. Has anyone else had any bad experiences with these pads. All the best Frax Don't know why but this has doubled posted.
  20. F***in hell Three Blades, I hope you can part and fix that, The plugs I was talking about should have been help in place on a bracket and should stop the loom ever cumming in contact with the engine or any thing hot or was it the wires that heated and melted ? If it was then you still have a big problem trying to find out which one is overloading.
  21. Think I would still try the two plugs - separate them and dry them out, the fascia does not need removed for the plugs I am talking about, they are hard to see and sit just behind the engine on the drivers side center, down at about frost plug height on engine side of bulkhead.
  22. That looks like a fair angle for a 2" lift on a rear shaft, I have a 2" lift and run 35" tires and dont think my angle on the rear is that bad. Mind you I have just replaced both props due to worn splines, Front had a fair angle so this time fitted a double carden. Can check if my ones are phased but I do think the rear should be about 30 deg - could be wrong though.
  23. If they are the same as the 300tdi - there are two plugs on the bulkhead (engine side down near the gear box) these are part of the loom and may have got wet, I covered my ones with petroleum jelly. You could try drying them out if wet, Only a thought,,,,,,,,,,
