  1. No the fluid level indication does not show on start up or when I remove the switch from the fluid.
  2. Thank you the reply, I did not think a pin hole in the return line would make any deference to starting as long as there is fuel to the supply but not sure. I did think I may have a pin hole in the pump diaphragm as this would pull air and may also let it run - though not well.
  3. Well started my 300tdi the other day after it had been sitting for months, it was a bit of a pig to get going, fuel tank had been out and timing belt was fitted + all new filters. I tried to get fuel up to the injectors using the lift pump but there did not seam to be any back pressure in the pump so used a vac (brake bleed thing) to suck fuel through the filter and she started and run. I have had this happen before and I thing it depends where the pump sits on the cam as to if it will pump or not. A bit lumpy to start with and loads of white smoke. She did seam to settle out and the smoke cleared - it was just left ticking over & never driven. Went out today and tried to start it again - did not want to go but did eventual, still no pressure felt when operating the lift pump by hand. Is my lift pump goosed or could it be something else. Regards Frax
  4. I just connected up my micro switch and tried it out and am getting no light on the warning panel, Checked the switch and it is OK but there is no 12v supply going to it. Checked the RAV CD and it tells me that it is fed from fuse 1, this fuse also feeds the indicator indication + other things. These are all working. Have I made a mess of my td5 warning panel after all ? Frax
  5. My mate was telling me that Halfords use to sell a pipe that went into the radiator hose which had an internal coil of tubing with two external pipes to connect to the screen wash pipes, don't know how true this is or if they still sell them.
  6. That seams like a good idea to me also being in Scotland, my nozzles keep breaking with the frost - I can put of with the delay but nozzle replacement is a pain.
  7. Looks good but I would still worry about the window going pop as the steem hits it.
  8. Well you were right, VDO sender worked a treat, had it running today after months and it was reading about 50psi and dropped to about 20psi when hot.
  9. Ye I think by the looks of it that this is not the first time it has happened, not while I have had it though.
  10. Found the problem, don’t know if you can see it from the picture but the white wire on the relay base has come loose from the connector block. When the connector block is pushed up the terminal just pushes down and does not make contact. Was able to get it back in and just to make sure it does not drop again I put some super glue on the back of the connector. The loom to the connector block is really tight so not much play. Well next I checked that I had glow plug indication on the dash and 12v at the glow plugs. Thank you for all your help now to see if it starts – back out and back to it. Regards Frax
  11. Thanks Ralph, been out but will check it out in the morning and let you all know how I get on.
  12. Hope my one is in the same place as my filter is on the wing, should find it though. Thanks ever one will update when I have traced it out....
  13. Know the wire, is it a relay or just a fuse as mentioned above (without looking) and thank you Ralph.
  14. Checked fuse 17 and it was OK, Will have a ears through rav and see what I can find. Is the timer relay behind ethe dash ? Will have to give it a good look over in the morning and see what I can find, relay will be my first check if I find it.
  15. I bought the loom for a 300tdi but not sure if it was a newer 300tdi as the fuel level indicator wiring was at the back and my one is under the drivers seat. As far as I know all wires are connected and I never had to modify any of it. I did however shorten the loom and refitted the proper plugs.
  16. Well just nipped out and checked both 60a fuses and they are both good.
  17. Thanks for that and I don't blame you for not wanting to get soaked, sure I will find it as there are only a few fuses in that box and cant be many 60a. Would that stop the dash light from working as well.
  18. Well I thought things were going too well, fitted a TD5 dash to my 300tdi 1995 dash a while back and tried to test most things as I went but must have missed the glow plug. Well rebuild is still going but I am at stage that I can start the engine as all fluids have been replaced. Put some fuel in today and turned it over but noticed that the glow plug dash light did not come on, checked for voltage at the glow plugs but nothing there. Do you think I have knocked a wire off somewhere? Timer relay or something. Will have a good check in the morning – any idea what fuse it is on a 1995. Any thoughts. Regards Frax
  19. I have 2"+ Terrafirma springs and shocks with dislocation cones - cranked trailing arms and camber correction bushes on the front, Terrafirma steering damper and Goodrich extended brake hoses but sadly cant let you know just yet how they perform as still rebuilding - hope to be on the road very soon though.
  20. If its like mine the main earth goes straight to the starter solenoid so I would start there, that is if you have power in the batteries. It does not take much to light the dash but it does to turn an engine.
  21. When I did my one I ran a large earth wire through first with a bit of hassle then attached it to a rubber hose, pulled that through and then ran the loom through it. Hope that the rubber hose will stop the sharp edges from the galvanizing cutting into the loom.
  22. Just ordered another one so I hope that it will work when it arrives.
  23. You could be right, it came from ebay and was new but could be rubbish quality.
  24. Found this which will show you the one I have.
