  1. Getting there Ralf. Removed the oil pressure switch today and after hunting about to see if I had anything to match the thread I found that it is the same thread a brake pipe. That’s the one that slides over the brake pipe and into the calliper. I could use a brass tee like the one on the back axial but knowing my luck it would tighten up in the wrong position, I would rather do as you did with a banjo fitting. I know that you will be able to tell me the thread of the top of your head ( I hope) and then it should be just a case of ordering the parts. Did thing of fitting it a bit away from the filter using brake pipe and securing the tee to something but have changed my mind as no where close to fit it and I don’t want to restrict the flow. Regards Frax
  2. Thanks for that Ralf - not a bad price. Was wondering about the fittings and if the parts for the 200tdi fit the 300tdi. Regards Frax
  3. Hi TS888 I was watching your thread and just wondered if you had any update. Did the parts that Western listed fit ?. Would like to do this job also so any update would be great. Regards Frax
  4. Yes I did and I did eventualy find the adjuster but the spring part had no pictures so was unsure if it was the correct bit. Are all the part No: changing as I have an old parts download PDF. Regards Frax
  5. Thank you Ralf yer a star......... Regards Frax
  6. Hi I need a part No: for the transmission brake shoe retaining springs and cap. The ones that go through the centre of the drum and hold the pad, push on and turn 90 deg. Rav says its STC1532 but I am unable to find that anywhere and most of the time the search just comes back with the pin the holds the brake shoe to the handbrake lever. It for a 1995 300tdi Defender Regards Frax
  7. Hi and welcome, as far as I am aware some of the newer 300tdi’s had the tank at the back as per the TD5. I am at about the same stage in my rebuild – plug also at the back but it is a new loom. I have connected the main plug at the bulkhead but have gone no further so will watch this with interest. At the end of the day it is only two wires. Regards Frax
  8. Hi I did check the rav manual and it said that the that the bolts can be used upto 5. I do not know how many times the head has been done before but it has 117k on it. Has anyone else had the same problems. Regards Frax
  9. Got a new head gasket today and proceeded to remove the head. All went well – head removed and given a good clean. When I unpacked the new gasket I found that it was metal plate which sandwiched some other material. I have now put it on and replaced the head but not torque it up as yet. Are they normally metal ? Does a metal to alloy give a good seal – just seems strange to me but I have not done one of these before. Regards Frax
  10. I am sure that more will be along soon with good words of wisdom. Frax
  11. No not for that mix and that time run, it would have sounded bad due to the bad burn. Once it is drained, do the filter as well, fill with diesel and all should be fine. Frax
  12. Hi you should be OK, I take it that there was 5 gallons of diesel to 4 gallons of petrol in the Defender. I would think that the diesel would still be enough to lubricate your pump. A friend of mine filled his Sprinter with petrol (he is a mechanic) when he was in a rush and his van was empty, it was recovered after about a mile and drained and has run OK ever since. Regards Frax
  13. Could be the rocker cover gasket, best was to find out would be to steam clean the engine and box. Take it for a run and have another look – it won’t show up as well as it will be clean oil and not had a chance to get covered in dirt. You can also stuff a clean cloth where you think it is leaking but keep it clear of the exhaust and any moving parts and make sure it is secure. As for the glow plug lead – clean it and then give it a dab of Vaseline and plug it back on, make sure it is a good fit. Regards Frax
  14. Thanks for that I will have a look, I am surprised that I have had no replies – lots of people on here are always painting there Land Rovers and lots do it on their own. Regards Frax
  15. Well I am just about ready to start rubbing down my 90 to get it ready for paint and wondered if T Wash will do the same job as Acid etch as the T Wash is a lot less expensive. Regards Frax
  16. Hi all and thank you for all the replies. Nigel I will take pictures when I get home but I am stuck in the North Sea for another week. I would like to see whay you think though. At over 220 miles I would think that the engine has had work done on it at some point. Regards Frax
  17. I will spend some time reading that RPI wab site - looks like a good place for information. Thank you Regards Frax
  18. Just bought a 1984 110 v8 with over 200,000 on the clock and still running well. As far as I was told it has been regularly serviced but I would need to take their word for that. Will it go for much longer or should I keep an eye out for a good replacement. All I know about it is it was used by a tree surgeon for some of its life so no idea how hard it has been pushed. Regards Frax
  19. Got one 1984 £600 - back door not that good - bulkhead also not the best. milage 220000 + Will it last as dont know if the engine has ever been changed but has been serviced regularly as was used by a firm. Sadly I will not see it till late next week as I am away from home. Frax
  20. Thanks for all the info. Bid on a 110 v8 about a month ago and been offered it again - so it will be V8 and guzzle guzzle for me now. One extreme to the other. Thank Frax
  21. Hi I have been looking at another Land Rover to get me about while I am doing my rebuild on the 90. The Land Rover I am looking at is an 1984 N/A Diesel. Can anyone tell me what they are like Ie: what speed will they do How unrefined are they compared to a 300tdi. What are thy worth with new rear crossmember and good bulkhead - ball park range would be good. Any info would be great. I am just looking for something that will pull my Ifor Williams trailer and I can through all my stuff in. Regards Frax
  22. Hi Can you tell me the part No: for the Defender 300tdi head gasket and if possible bolt set. Is there any way of finding out how thick the gasket is before removal? Regards Frax
  23. Well to kind of answer my own question I found this - http://www.lro.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=16926 Sadly to late for me as I have just bought two new spindle boxes for the 300tdi so will probably just have to bush them. The info in the link is good to know for anyone doing this job. Frax
