  1. Thanks for that Litch, I did not want to change or alter the fonts just cut down on the surrounding reflective plate, looks like that can not be done either. How do you stand if your car is pre 2003 ? Frax
  2. Hi all can I legally cut a Number plate, the reason I ask is my number plate is fitted on top of my winch bumper and looks huge. The reflective background sticks out about 2” past the letters. I would like to make it a bit more neat – say ½” say passed the letters or the same spacing as there is above the letters. I was also considering cutting a notch at the bottom to make it fit round the Fairlead Rollers. I was told that the makers name needs to be shown, is this true as if I do cut a notch at the bottom this would be gone. Frax
  3. Nice job digger - what did you use for you window washer bottle.
  4. Well will have to keep an eye out and see what I can find, bad time of year to be looking I suppose but my Defender is almost ready for the road again and winter is just about here. Thank you for all your help. Regards Frax
  5. Found this which was of interest to me and maybe some of you as my one is a 300tdi http://www.reedx.net/landrover/mods/eberspacher/
  6. Did I get it wrong, I know that quite a lot of the new diesels have diesel pre-heaters to warm up the diesel before it goes into the engine which in turn gives a better burn and better fuel economy, Also a good idea if running cooking oil. Do not know who makes these type of heaters but just presumed that it might be the same sort off manufacturer.
  7. Webasto seam to be a bit more reasonably priced and also look like they are fitted to more cars. A lot of them are listed a diesel heaters which I suppose don't heat the cab but the diesel so would be OK if I wanted it to run on cooking oil but wont heat me sadly. Will keep looking.
  8. Found one on you know where - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Defender-Snow-Cover-LHD-RHD-/130605680197?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e68b48645#ht_1475wt_1187
  9. What type do you have and is there an easy less expensive way of getting one as they cost a lot more than I would like to spend. Is there any usable ones fitted to other cars that might be laying about in a scrap yard. I have been told that they are fitted to quite a lot of cars as standard items. Do you have a car with a stander fitment and if so what car is it. Hope you don't mind me asking but I would know what to look at the next time I am in a scrap yard. I would like to put on in my Defender so it would need to be a 12v version. Regards Frax
  10. As far as I know they are the same, I hope to be re skinning my ally doors with a new steel skin this week, it will use the old steel frame so everything else should just swap over.
  11. Years ago one of my friends pulled a car off a dry stone wall, it burst the fuel line and went on fire. He then spent a lot of time with the police as the owner wanted him done. At the end he got away with it but it does go to show that people are only great full when it all goes well. I will recover people but make sure that they except full responsibility if things go pear shape. Makes me think twice. "O" I don't recover idiots, last year a BM passed me on a very slippy road and about a mile further on I found him stuck in a fence - gave him a nice wave as I passed by. He was OK but his car was a mess.
  12. Hi Steve I have a Tomtom and it works fine, not the loudest but its OK. Before you buy any of them check that they are compatible with your phone. Some just work for voice and wont pick up text as I found out. My old Nokia used to work great with the tomtom and picked up voice and text and would even read the text for you but my new HTC only picks up voice. Frax
  13. Well just home and I have fitted the new lift pump which has got pressure on the manual lever. Started first time but lots of white smoke and not great throttle response. The smoke does clear but still seams a bit slow at responding to the throttle. Temperature gauge is not reading for some reason (td5 dash with green sender). I was reading about 60deg at the thermostat housing.
  14. BFG Mud or A/T are great tyres, I cant see passed them, I have used them for years on all sorts from Land Cruisers to Land Rovers.
  15. The more the better - used about 6lt on my one, inside and out.
  16. Hi Mo I did bleed the whole system through to the injectors and it ran OK once hot the first time but after it stood for a day did not want to start. New fuel pump is on it way and I think I will change the bleed off flexies just in case air is getting in and the fuel is running back.
  17. There are two bolts on the side of the chassis and as far as I remember there is one at the front that holds the inner wing. The inner wing one has got a bit of play in the hole but you may get away without loosening it if you don't have far to move. You might also need to do window frame to roof if it is out at the top also. The ones on the side of the chassis could be left where they are but I would loosen the bracket at the bulkhead, the holes in the chassis dont have much movement. (well my ones did not)
  18. Ignore last post - lift pump pressure should only be 3 - 4 psi.
  19. I was just thinking that if I remove the bleed screw on the fuel filter and then pump I should be able to see if there is pressure there. Thank you for going out and having a look, my one used to start 1st turn before I started my rebuild. Going to order a pump anyway. I don't know what pressure it should put out but I would it would be 60psi+ at the injectors.
  20. I would turn it over but it has been running twice so cam position must have changed, lift pump pressure has stayed the same. I have a vintage tractor with a similar style pump and only once in three years has it ever stopped in a position where I could feel no pressure at the pump. Have you ever tried your one and do you feel pressure on the plunger leaver when pushing it down. I am presuming that it should be similar to the old tractor.
  21. God they are expensive new, I will have to spend some time checking this out before I go and buy one. Sadly it will need to wait for two weeks as I am away in the morning. Is it part of the MOT as I am hoping to finish it next time home and get it over for a test but will need to see how I get on or if ther any any more parts required. Thank you for all your help. Frax
  22. Ye I was just looking at that and thinking "O" NO... did find out that pin 14 is an earth, looks like I may need another panel. Great for info though - thanks Ralph
  23. Do you know if the LED's are replaceable, and also (sorry to be a pain) should I get 12v at pin 14 on the warning panel 16 way plug or is this a feed through LED to earth.
  24. Now I get it I thought that Defender Dave was on about the lift pump return line, my return flexible pipes are in poor shape, I will have to have a look for the part No: and order a set.
