  1. Kind of, ran out of sensible steel plate (computer cases!) inclination and ability. Did a temp box which seems to work, but seriously f*cked up the electrics when I decided to put a small patch on the rear crossmember - there's wires in that region you kow. Actually that should read WERE wires in that region of the chassis. So put the spotlights back on instead and got p*ssed.
  2. Copy cat! i'm just getting the use back of my left index finger , don't ya just love angle grinders.
  3. Now all chant together "Arseh0les in Audis, Berks in Mercs, Vankers in Volvos and Dreamers in Beemers" You wanna try a 700mile round trip to Stroud from Northumberland in a 1982 Mini 1000 if you need to see bad driving...
  4. I've just done the same job last week. A wee bit of perseverence and a blunt teespoon handle works! Did not bother with lub, only probs were where the seal bends at the roof corners. Also warm the seal on a radiator, makes it much more flexible. After too many attempts I did these bits first. Mind you you think the bloody seal is awkward, wait till you try to put the frame back in on your own.... really need three arms longer than a bloody gibbon
  5. Tis most likely a fungus rather than a bacterium. Fungi of the genus Aspergillus are prety much bullit proof. They can survive in the JP series of jet fuels, unfortunatley, One of the by-products of their metabolism is somewhat acidic and will rot metals. I'd be inclined to check for rotted fuel pies as well as blocked filters. The Aspergillus are really neat fungi!!!!!
  6. Tetanus is definately up to date! Black stuff turned out to burnt flesh, oxidised metal and grinding disc - no infection probable as I flushed the lot out with Milton Sterilisation Fluid - f*ck me, that hurt more than cut.
  7. Yup, it's a Nige. Filling the groove with superglue failed miserably (and hurt like a bast*rd), still you can't see the bone now and the nail is a rite off, not sure what the black **** is though, probably bits of grinding disc...
  8. Well thats the passenger side finished and looking good. Drivers side will take a wee bit longer... just need to let my left index finger get better. Did you know that machinemart 1mm cutting discs cause self cauterising wounds? I do now. Moral is ON NO F8CKING ACCOUNT TAKE THE SAFETY GUARD OFF AN ANGLE GRINDER SO AS YOU CAN REACH THAT LAST LITTLE BIT OF F8UCKIN METAL, it not only cuts down to the bone (is reaaly white, live bone is, but not for long) but it will also trash your spiffing new welding gloves...........
  9. Need a part number for those wretched brittle white plastic clips that hold the sunroof trim in place
  10. Been taking some piccies! Not as bad as I initially thought, if one shoves a bore scope (can't get pfotos from that)in through the holes, there is only surface rust - can reach that with a paintbrush and rust killer. Still, repair panels arrived, now need to find just were on earth I stashed the new door hinges... Oh and bought a new fire extinguisher.
  11. Cheers Les et al, just cheer me up! I always suspected that the front end needed to come off, just didn't wanna do it! Still will give me a chance to see what other horrors are lurking there.
  12. Weather has been nice today. Wish it bloody rained tho, as I wouldn't have been proding the bulhead top corners with a screwdriver. Now got 2 repair panels on the way. Please confirm that I can weld them on without having to remove the wings, the rot does not get any closer than 1cm to the top of the wing (that make sense?) - battered the living bejesus out of the metal in this area so I know it's solid. Also hoping to get away without having to remove windscreen surround (??????). Did see a thread with lots of lovely photos on how to do this, but as usual, can't find the bugger... I am not looking forward to this.....
  13. Only ever had minor probs with both of mine, all trced back to how we fitted em. Got one that has done almost 150k on a 200tdi and one that has done 70k on a very hard driven V8. Love em to bits....
  14. Welcome to the vehicular sado masochists club. Whereabouts in Northumbria?
  15. Since when, my friend, has f*ckin good news ever been off topic? Good news such as this is always on topic!!!!
  16. Name one ! Just remember the old adage "don't force it, use a bugger hammer".
  17. Will engine paint actually stick to the aluminium of a V8 block?
  18. Getting to the point where the dashpots are using more oil than the engine uses petrol!!!! Don't you just love em
  19. The SU's (Hifs)on my V8 have developed an appetite for dashpot oil. I cannot find anything amiss, so could the collective mind come up with a reason, cheers me dears
  20. Had a similar prob with my V8 and GKN. Check that the overdrive unit has not vibrated loose, can't remember if it is 3 or 5 countersunk screws that hold it in place, we simply locktighted the buggers. Being a bit loose, someof the gears were a bit chewed up, but a quick clean up with a sanding disk sorted that out. No probs since then (well other than the engine going off with a bang).
  21. Yes I have been quiet - business is very slow, so having a make do and mend type of year, have not been working on landrover (tons to do ...) as weather has been really nasty and the bloody thing don't fit in the garage. Mind you looking at the bulkhead corners, I suspect thre is a lot of welding to do in the spring...
  22. Here's a poser then. Can't think (off the top of me head) just what vehicle body you could put on a 100 inch or so chassis. I reckon a Scimitar would look quite good, a VW bus would be a hoot, or just to play devils advocate, why not a Bentley Continental Type R? Now that would be worthy of a fatwah!!!!
  23. There was a chap in the eighties (Alvin smith?) who biult a neat beast called strange rover out of TR7 and Range Rover chassis as a rally car and, if my memory serves me correctly, managed to get it homologated.
