  1. Chock the wheels, take the handbrake off, out of gear, get underneath and start twisting and lifting to find any play. BTW handling in RWD only is more than interesting, it's horrendous. FWD is even worse.
  2. We do. Think how much tax you pay and what you get in return! or how harshly normally law abbiding people are treated in the courts when career criminals get a slap on the wrists!
  3. Now, if you were looking to steal a Land Rover old Sodbury would be the place to go. Hundreds of them parked in a field, all the accesories you can think of and people wandering round with spanners and barrows full of parts. The choice is pretty much endless. If your looking for a station wagon door in Rimini Red you'll find it in the carpark somewhere!
  4. To be fair, Ive seen substantially worse in the UK Some could consider the Longranger and even RougeVouge to be aesthetically challenged.
  5. Should have knocked on the window, taken their numbers and made a complaint to the Chief Constable
  6. My Pro Land Rover argument would be thus: We have 3 cars Land Rover 90 Ford Focus Hatch Volvo V40 Presently, the smallest car (the 90) is the only one we can go out as a family in that is:- 2 adults a baby, in car seat, all in the front Baby Buggy, Baby parephenalia, Luggage on the wheelboxes and 2 large dogs on the rear floor In the Volvo, the biggest car, we would have to leave one dog or the baby buggy. In the Focus, larger footprint than the 90, we would have to leave both dogs or the baby buggy. In an ideal world I would be able to sell the Focus and Volvo and replace with a 110 running on biodiesel from renewable or waste sources. Unfortunately the govenment's insistence that fuel from renewable sources is taxed as harshly as fossil fuels makes this unviable financially! This govenment (and to be fair non of it's predecessors) has any intention to make vehicles more "green" otherwise biodiesel would have been available commercially and cheaply 5 years ago.
  7. There used to be a good police presence at Sodbury, and it was well advertised they would be in attendance. I've not seen as many of them around on my last few visits
  8. Helped put the back seat from a RaRo into a series front bench once. The extra height would put a tall person close to the roof. I imagine the same would go for the fronts.
  9. Well lets see. One of thems parked next to the Longranger and the other's got LONGRANGER written on it!!
  10. Which axle drives when the difflock is in?
  11. The job is relatively easy. You can get the side part off the pump without removing the pump. Unless you are near a Lucas main agent, getting the parts are more of a problem! I used a diaphragm from a scrapped pump, a mate got a new one from the Lucas agent. The job is deatiled on the old forum LRA (formerly LRE) but I cannot make the search function work at the moment! As regards to performance. It'll make a small difference as it affects the amount of fuel added to compensate for the increased air available from the turbo. The other side effect (aside from tank pressure) is that after a run, and on idle fuel can be pushed up the pipe to the turbo. If it goes far enough you get a bit of fuel added to the air and the engine will race momentarily. Hopefully, as the engine races turbo pressure increases and pushes the fuel back down the pipe! 12. Done this recently on a 90. A few tips:- Get a box with new drop arm and ball joint. Costs around £15-20 more but well worth it to not have to remove and refurbish the old ones. Before you start see if you can bench press the new box one handed, because that is what you'll be doing flat on your back in the garage. They are very heavy! After giving up fitting it one evening a little thought and preparation got it refitted in 20mins the next day! Which was quicker than removing it. Expect to have some real D'oh moments. For refitting shove something long and thin (like a 5mm shaft screwdriver) through one of the holes through the chassis. Heave and swear threading the box back in then hang it on the screwdriver while you try and get one of the bolts in. You will need to connect the steering column back to the box BEFORE refitting all the bolts.
  13. Plastic Bottle?? as a complete replacement for the LR part
  14. It was the clutch fork , as hypothesised at 8.30 on thurs morning as they were waiting to board eurotunnel!!
  15. Well, they got to their chalet around 11pm. 12hours to do 550miles and 18mpg overall. Today is a beautifull sunny day in the alps, snow on the peaks and snow cannons working in the village.
  16. They're still going! Now near Dijon which is over halfway. Will probably uncouple around Bourg en Bresse when it gets a bit hilly. Then the 110 should be able to get most places in 3rd. If worst comes to worst the 90 can tow the 110 up the mountain in lowbox. There's a couple of real steep bits on the last run to the chalet. I think the 90 will struggle with what must be 5T total train weight! I think Mally has been to see Mr DuMoulin last year when he had fueling problems.
  17. I can vouch for this too. I found mine. It was the black thing in the very frosty (and white) field, at least 30yards from the road!
  18. Drive permanently engaged (except in neutral of course)
  19. Yep Paddocks website quotes MC same and slave different. However the other 3 websites I checked show no difference in the slave. At the moment the car is driving(and towing) fine but they'll get to a peage sooner or later and have to start crashing the gears again. they are going here MrSki near(ish) Geneva
  20. My mate is currently driving to the alps in a 110 with 300tdi/r380 combo towing on an a frame a 90 with td/77s? combo. He no has "no clutch" on the 110. No fluid loss Unlikely to be clutch fork as it was ok when the engine was out less than 6000miles ago The 110 is loaded with luggage including a washing machine and wood burner, so towing the 110 with the 90 is not a good option. So the question is Are the slave and master cylinders likely to be the same for both cars?
  21. Proof (If ever it were needed) that Americans like to hear the sound of their own voice. 2 or 3 pages of legitimate dispute and 70 pages of trash talk ( and no I didn't read it all)!
  22. [standup] I'm an ebayaholic. It's been 85 days since my last "win"[/standup] I've bought tons of stuff on ebay. Got a bit carried away a couple of times and paid over the odds, but generally buying stuff you can no longer buy in the shops. Play it safe, check sellers feed back, research prices (even if you only look at completed items for comparison), don't get in a bidding war, only spend what you can afford to loose, don't trust ebay, don't trust paypal. There are loads of issues that could easily be fixed by ebay. e.g. letting a newly regisered ebay user with hotmail account and a made up address in the uk bid hundreds of thousands of pounds in 30 minutes so they can try their luck at the western union or "my associate in the uk will send you a cheque for £5000 take your £3000 and forward me the balance" scam. Setup 4 accounts a day bid on 50 high value items each 5 days a week that's 1000 potential scams. You only need one to pay off and be a couple of grand up! It happens thousands of times a day, especially on "ebay motors" and remember. If you buy anything from ebay (you don't win anything!!!!!) you were wiling to pay more for that item than everyone else in the world with an internet connection. edited to add. I didn't see the Trevor Macdonald thing but can personally confirm that setting up a buyer or seller account is pi** easy but reporting an obvious scam (or scammer) takes some real digging through the tech files an shear perseverance.
  23. Eventually got round to watching Farenheit 911 the other day. I'm off to the bookies to find out the odds on George W Bush being impeached or getting a presidential pardon (for something) within 2 years of him leaving office. Dead cert.
