Nah theres an easer way to fix it than that - remove buld from warning light, place on anvil, hit with hammer - replace bulb into dash! SORTED!!!!!
:-)

I've only ever experienced this problem twice and both times it was the ignition switch, although I have heard of this happening and it was apparently the starter motor.
Les.
Funnily enough Ign switch was the other thing I was thinking as I was typing the above!
Jon
-
One other thing i can think of. With engine NOT running, what does the switched ign do then? Ie is it related the engine running or not?
Jon
-
John,
Surely depends on whereabouts on the 90 you're taking the switched live from?
Any idea?
Jon

Will,
How about measuring it, and then looking it up in the standard bearing tables?
Jon
-
Interesting, where did you get them?
Er..... I Um............borrow them from work!
You can get em from RS, CMS etc etc basically any decent data cabling suppliers. Probably most elcetrical factors will also keep them. We use them for Cat6 cabling since you cant use ordingary zippy ties on Cat6.
CMS are here.
Tehy do eventaully get bunged up with mud, grass etc etc but I just replace them occasionaly as they're so cheap!

I just use velco cable ties to hold things to the roll cage. Cheap as chips and fully adjustable!

John White helped friday and Part Saturday,
Part Saturday???? i got told to p*ss off if all i was going to do was stand there and take the p*ss!!!!!!
Still - got to beat JU's truck with a large hammer which was rather satisfying.......(yes really!)

Lyndon,
Zeus are the only ones I've ever come accross. I've got them on the back of my series - they're not cheap though!

hi
maybe there might be a market for some sort of aftermarket dash that actually looks good, dosent squeak, has capacity for CB and CD and extra switches/gauges, and was robust and cheap
mike
Yeah I'd go along with that! I looked at some of the centre console type affairs on show at billing, but I aint paying nearly £50 for a piece of vacuum formed plastic!

IDownsides - well, I think the entrance could have been better organised without the bottleneck after the gate. When I got back to the site Sat morning after collecting my son the queue for the wristbands etc stretched out of the site back to the dual carriageway and a mile or so back towards the M1.........
Yeah i'd agree with that one - took us nigh on 2 hours to do the last 5 miles to the site on the saturday! More or less drove straight in on the sunday. However the gripe on sunday was getting out - there was some plank down by the min roundabout handing out fliers which was slowing everyone down getting out of the show!
never did get a map on the saturday, but got handed one on the sunday.
Didnt sample the catering so cant comment, but the toilets were minging! Muddy floor I can accept but it wasnt that bit i'm talking about! We stayed in comfort in the travelodge a few miles away thankfully!
Overall I was pleased not to see too many stalls selling the usual tat (clothing, shoes etc etc) although I found little to interest me as I dont run a coiler on the trade stands!

Er - why not just use the other set of contacts in the switch that Si supplied which have the same temperature range??? 50091 is a dual switch with 2 settings.......
Do NOT buy these from a scrappy - they die for a hobby and they aint a lot of money (less than a tenner) brand new!

"Moglite" AKA Andy Marshallsay who'll be the bloke on the Shire Land Rover Club stand trying to flog the red ibex.

As far as the 4.0; statesside; we convert 4.0's and 4.6's regularly. It's been done by dozens of owners doing swaps into trail rigs. The specs and parts sheets are all over Dweb, pirate, and other websites. Yes, the front cover does have to be changed.
I have been on eBayUK all night, and this morning looking for the 1 tonne shackles. I guess 109's were not 1 tonne trucks, because the 4 rear 109 shackle plates I bought from 4x4 adventure leeds do not have the center pin. They are just the same as my 88 rear shackles but longer.
Better off keeping the 4.0 front end and running EDIS IMHO. JU and I are both running it and neither of us would go back to dizzys!
1 tonne trucks were very rare beasts indeed! A 1 tonne and a standard 109 are not the same thing, and actually share very few mechanical parts.

Nope!!!
My mates got one but I aint going to be seeing him anytime soon.......

You want a door skinning tool mate!!! Only way to get em really tight!

I reckon one of the best things you could do to an old 2.25 these days would be to add the supercharger from one of the new shape minis (they go for no money on ebay) and megasquirt that! Standard series box would just about cope with that and it'd be a nice tractable drive.
As to who is going to make your prop shafts etc it doesnt make any difference and you're not going to get away from the fact that the front prop is just too short and will be running at too extreme an angle! If you swap the gearbox to a stronger one, and one thats potentially longer this will help alieviate the problem as the front prop will be longer and will run at less extreme an angle.
As to the 4.0 lump - you're still going to have to run some sort of electronic ignition on it as there is no provision for a dizzy on that engine anyway.
Shackles wise 1 tonne shackles are about 1/2" longer than military ones. The rears are also longer than the fronts by about 1/2" but its not an easy job to fit rear ones to the front.
Jon

Still dont see the point in SOA conversion cos it doesnt help you with under axle clearance. Better off fitting portal axles IMHO then you dont get the agro with propshafts etc.
Rear end wont casue you too many problems, but the front will! Unless you move the transfer box back a long way and re-make the crossmembers you'll get into loads of problems with U/Js binding etc. My front prop binds on full droop as it is....
Series boxes are made of cheese and are barely up to the power of the standrd 2.25 petrol. You'll need a better box if you're going that big engine wise.
-
Bear in mind military shackels are different to 1 tonne shackles. IIRC the 1 tonne ones are a tad longer than the military ones.
IMHO its worth running extended shackles with standard front mounts if you're running parabolics as it allows more axle travel. There are other things like shock mounts, propshafts, castor angle etc to consider however.
John, do you really need to ask why??? I've never seen an American 4x4 that hasnt been jacked up so high in the air that its got snow on the top, or without ridiculously large donuts on it! Its the way they seem to do it.....probably also why you see so many pics of american 4x4's having rolled over off road....... They dont do trials, narrow green lanes, forest drives through tight trees like we do........
Finally what axles are you planning to run on this 109? Landrover axles wont last long with 39" tyres on them!

Does anyone have tips on how to get more energy out of the old individual lucas wiper motors as fitted to earlier 2's and 2A's, so that they can cope with more than just drizzle ?
Bill.
Er...... how about replace them with a couple of 6 HP XP motors??
But seriously, they were always pretty cr@p! I'd be inclined to replace with a series3 setup like Tonk has done on his 2a.
Jon
-
I'd be inclined to use a bit of (proper) seam sealant. NOT silicone sealant as the acids in silicone can casue corrosion.
Jon
-
I'm with Hoss on this one. I'd just solder the ends of the exsiting cables together and heat shrink. Thats all I've done on my EDIS system........
Jon
-
Wossit off, and have you got a piccy of the connector? Doesn't look like an EDIS one so I'm wondering why you've got it
Wrong!!!! Its an EDIS one.
They're simply not available in this country. RS dont do em, and they're not made by Tyco and hence you wont find em in their catalogue!
I've seen both the pins and connectors for sale on US based wbesites however. I'd suggest you're into importing them if you want them!
Cheers

Er yeah that was about what they cost! No they aint gold plated I'm afraid, but i think it becomes a case of needs must - I've never found anybody else who makes them!
What are you doing that needs longer studs then?
