  1. You don't say what colour the smoke is, but guessing not blue. Could it be lack of air with it being warm? I always work on the principle of before the big options, check the cheaper ones. Air filter first and then check the EGR. The best thing is to remove the EGR completey as it gets gunked/fails. If you have to put a new intercooler in, buy a big shiny new one from someone like Allisport and hoof the pump up a bit
  2. You know, I'd have missed that if you hadn't have told me, but I have to disagree with your rule. This T-max thing didn't, in fact it was cold, so cold that I stuck my cider on it, and it chilled it right down to that 'just ice filtered' point that all the adverts keep mentioning.
  3. It's not age, it's the recognition that the desire doesn't match the ability .........I'm just off to recover me 90 which is stuck at the bottom of my drive. Reckon it should winch out
  4. Honiton Hobbit purchased one and I saw it run and it wasn't noisey and I don't believe it even got warm. I would have purchased one only I have a Truck air which I hardly use but it works fine for what I need. Get it bought Tony
  5. Chris, can you txt me the time and date of this large drink so i can be there to see it with my own eyes and take a photo for those who can't make it
  6. Oh dear. What a dismal sad existence that young chap must lead.
  7. Well done Les, those kids would have got away with it if it hadn't have been for you pesky moderators
  8. Has anyone seen/done/poked at with a sh*tty stick an LPG conversion on a new shape Range Rover? Where was the tank(s) fitted? Is there any space underneath to fit any tanks (never been under one so no idea)? Did it work? Just interested as the price of them has dropped to below the £20k mark and they are sooooo much car for the money.
  9. I've been, and it's a good showground but it's too bl**dy far now I live in cream tea land I could have done Malvern as a day visit. Have to wait until Eastnor next year now.
  10. David, I completely agree that disclaimers cannot exclude liability for negligence and whilst the majority of us don't like the culture of 'fetch my lawyer, I'm gonna sue' the fact is we aren't looking at the wrong end of £3k to fix our motor. However I'm a little confused as to why this thread is titled LRM magazine and what dew110csw motive is for the post? Surely if the organiser and legally responsible person for the show is failing to abide by their original offer of paying then it will become a civil matter and go to court to prove the negligence and recover the repair costs? I think this may be the thin end of the wedge for marshalls because they will soon refuse to recover people as they could be personally liable for recoveries. Then organisers either have to get good insurance (put's the price up) or you recover yourself no matter what. I can't see off road courses at Land Rover shows lasting much longer tbh. And thats no reflection on David here, he's just the unfortunate one that possibly starts the ball rolling, because it was bound to happen sooner or later, it's just the way the world is going.
  11. Bugger, I have missed all the other shows and intended going to this if it was on because it's easy to get to. Oh well
  12. Nige et al, see thread about Lidl extinguishers. Nas 90 is correct - if you have BCF, keep them. You would be entitled to use them in the preservation of life, just not for practice.
  13. Si - bummer. Just goes to show how fast they can go up. Even if you got the powder to work, there is a good chance that it wouldn't put it out anyway. Sometimes fires are just too well advanced. General rule of thumb, if the fire is physically bigger than the extinguisher, it will struggle. I like the way everyone just drove past, did no one stop and check you were ok?
  14. Nick, as you point out FE36 is damned expensive and is still yet to proove itself. Sadly you can't buy BCF anymore but it doesn't half work on engine fires. g- rover, I think the link is in the name 'Triflormeythl' with BCF being Blah Blah Tri Methyl. So possibly contains the chemical powder from BCF, but not the Halon which is the inert gas that starves the oxygen from the fire (and anyone trying to breathe near it ) You can run dual media, which is using two types together to get the best of both types, but it takes practice. AFFF is ok, if you have enough and can get the foam blanket to build properly. Always remember that once the blanket is down, not to step in it, as you will break the blanket and thus get re-ignition. This leaves you with a problem unless carrying secondary media. As illustrated by a colleague who did this on an ex. Finding himself stood in a pool of fire, he ignited the powder extinguisher in his hand, but the blast from the extinguisher, puffed a hole in the foam and.... you guessed it, re-ignited. This process of self extraction became known as ' the Smithy Dance' My TACR2 ran AFFF and was effective, but then it did chuck 900 litres out at 8ltrs a second
  15. Nope because you won't be able to proove that it wasn't of merchantable quality. If you went to court and fought it, there is lttle to no chance that you could prove it. 6 mths and 4,500 miles and you might have a chance. Best option is to perhaps put pressure on your local dealer to give you some good will off the cost of another box from Ashcroft but I don't think they are duty bound.
  16. Feel like I'm preaching to the converted here as half the thread posters seem to be involved in the prevention of flames getting worse (just put the word fire in a thread and they will all come running like pyromaniac moths to a flame ) Foam is best on fuel spills and is rubbish on multi surfaced 3 dimensional stuff like engine bays because it cannot form a seal to keep the oxygen out. The other extinguisher is CO2, but you really don't want to use that on engine blocks because you can cause spot cooling and crack the block of an aluminium engine. As Russ said, nothing, BUT NOTHING, puts out a fire like BCF (aka Halon, which is the propellant). I still have one, and if neccesary will use it to save life where and when required. I last used a 1.5kg BCF to knock out an engine fire in a helicopter, and then we damped down with water to prevent re-ignition. When Trumpton rolled up they went off on one about using BCF, but finally backed down when shown a copy of the CAA manual that says we can still use BCF in emergencies (not for training). Russ, are you RFFS or ex DFS or County?
  17. Er Chris, I don't like to say this but are you sure it will fit on your Quad bike because I'm not so sure................
  18. Good timing Si Jules I saw this one in the LRO mag and it looks smart. Not many pics of inside but it really made think. Maybe I could p/ex my Swift Fiat Ducato....... and then I saw the price! Ouch. It was the same price as my coachbuilt 05 plate delivery mileage warrantied 2.2dti Fiat based belter what is sat on the drive. Ok, my 20ft won't go in a container, so if it's round the world you want, then that Simons looks to be the biz. Simon, any chance of pics of the bed area (ooerr) and maybe a shot in the thru the door? I don't think the LRO shots did the interior justice tbh. Cheers Dave
  19. Don't jump too soon. There can be some simple reasons for the air suspension to play up. Sometimes the fault can be rectified for the cost of a shock asorber. It's not always doom & gloom (although most of the time it is ) Have a chat with your local specialist before consigning it to the bin.
  20. It wasn't stuck then, I'd just parked it up. Although I had a good idea that when I came back to move it, it would be stuck - funnily enough, so did everyone else
  21. Conversely don't over estimate the vehicles abilities - and buy a big bottle of T-cut, you're going to need it
  22. No problem James, as always a an interesting day, and we were blessed with dry weather even if the ground wasn't. And I wonder what the £10 bet was for......
  23. Jim, you are not wrong and I understand the reasons behind what you said, however I just don't think two wrongs make a right. If someone needs to be pulled out of deep water and I can help, I will. If it changes their perception of 4x4's all well and good. If not, then at least I will know that my choice of vehicle is correct. I have been watching the news and just amazed by the amount of water out there, and it looks like getting worse! I'm actually glad that I live in the hilly bit. carp for bike rides, but thankfully I'm not likely to be flooded out.
  24. I bought a set if gen parts for my V reg Td5 and they weren't expensive, came with new brackets and new bolts to go in the captives.
