  1. I think it's completely worth it to be honest. Quality (most of the time) only hurts once!
  2. 35" might be too big for the half shafts etc... They might snap under the extra strain. But most lift kits will specify if it's body, suspension or both. Body lift is typically little plastic blocks between the chassis and body, suspension is springs etc. Where in NZ are you mate?
  3. What series is it? Series 2a and maybe 3 had them on the front spring hanger. Mostly the right. I think series 1s had them somewhere near the middle outrigger of the chassis. Very unsure on the S1 though.. Edit: www.lrfaq.org/FAQ.3.Chassis_Numbers.html
  4. Genuine lifters if you can afford it! The rover v8 will thank you for it. Duplex timing gear. Look at: www.Summitracing.com Search: Buick 215 engine. It really helped me choose what I went with for my 3.5 v8! Research is the key Josh
  5. Kerosene? Or maybe industrial degreaser?
  6. Google-fu! http://www.ebay.com/bhp/leak-down-tester Hope that helps
  7. There is such a tool! I haven't had a chance to google it but they do exist!
  8. Could you get it compression leak-down tested? That would help determine exactly how much is getting past the bores.. Other than that, I'm not really much help!
  9. Dunsfold! That's what i was trying to remember. That factory tour sounds promising, and rallies or play days would be good to tie into. I would probably be looking around July/august next year but not set in stone just yet! Thanks for the suggestions so far!
  10. Hi folks. As the title suggests, Ive decided to go on a trip to go see some of the historical LR sites around England. It will be me and the other half. We are coming from NZ for a month max during your summer and want to squeeze as much green oval goodness as possible! So, are there any hidden treasures that we should go see while we are over? I was thinking of trying to get to the heritage centre (Gaydon..?) but not really sure otherwise! I realise this may be a can-opener of sorts but I would appreciate some local knowledge! Thanks in advance, Josh
  11. 33% higher geared than standard across the range I think
  12. If it helps any, I ran my Series 2a with standard diffs and O/D and i got it up to 85mph on a private road (wouldn't do it again mind you!). It was noisy, but the truck managed fine with the 2.25p. I also ran my stage 1 v8 with the low comp 3.5v8 on standard 3.54 diffs and lt95 gearbox up 135kmh on the same road which I also wouldn't do again due to the wheel wobble. Your v8 is an SD1 type so should be around 155hp..? It will probably pull OD on standard diffs really well. Another big point is that the truck is actually a little overgeared around town on 3.54s eg you will either be in 4th at 50-60 and will be lugging, or 3rd gear and revs are little high/noisy. I certainly found this with my stage 1. So, I would say keeping your standard diffs and OD would be a really good compromise for what you want to do. But it's up to you ultimately! Josh
  13. Although the OD for cruising only is fine in theory, you might find that inevitably you need to accelerate with O/D in and it will strain the mechanicals a little. It could also become be a bit of a pain to keep swapping in and out. If your engine is in great fettle, it will probably pull acceptably. I would just see how it goes and if it's too slow then you know what to do I'd hate to see you do all the hard work only to be let down Jim! I'll be following with interest
  14. I think Nick (Snagger) has this issue. He broke his gearbox running a 200Tdi with high ratio diffs and OD. Discomikey runs this setup also with a tdi I think... Maybe they'll chime in for you! You may find the acceleration lacking a little
  15. If it has twin wiper motors (mounted above the vent flaps) the switches are on each motor. If it's a single wiper motor model (in the dash on the far left side for a RHD the switch is on the instrument panel, next to the speedo cluster. It should have a label on it but they wear out/break easily
  16. http://glencoyne.co.uk/info.htm www.Stage1v8.org.uk Have a look through these to your hearts content. Post up some pics of your truck, I used to have a stage 1 and they are just fantastic. Josh
  17. Do your trailers not have to sit any road worthiness test in the UK? I'm surprised about that haha. In NZ trailers have to pass a warrant of fitness, and you have to pay registration on them too! It makes trailer ownership a bit of a pain at times but atleast you know that it's sound.
  18. Wow, a real can opener! I'll throw a vote in for diesel power. If I had endless money, I would drop one of the V8 common rail turbo diesel motors from the new Landcruisers into a 110 truck cab. Dream machine!
  19. Could it be seized shackles? There's a thread by Landy novice a fair few pages back in this section and it outlines similar problems, I think it was called "parabolics with no real travel or comfort" or something. Might be worth having a trawl through. HTH Josh
  20. Fair enough 750/16 will do you just fine I'd say, just adjust your lock stops and you'll be just fine
  21. Wider and taller I believe. (Marginally) The turning circle is truly dreadful on a 109 I agree, fond memories of million-point-turns on narrow streets! It still looks like an LR. No X5 anywhere to be seen!
  22. 750-16s are the standard fitment for 109s. There are points to adjust the steering lock stops so that they don't rub the chassis. I think they are on the front axle in the swivel hub area. You could go to 265/75/16 as I did on my Stage 1 V8 but it's really up to personal preference. It came with those tyres so I just ran with them. HTH Josh
  23. Hi Mickey. I used to have a Stage 1 V8 and it had huge problems with the carbs. I got sent this link. It may help you, I found it a great resource. Let me know if the link works. Josh http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=48534
  24. Find a Haynes or LR or RAVE manual and give it a read. Invaluable learning exercise which will endow you with knowledge to get the jobs done! Earth straps from battery to engine, to chassis to gearbox I think. Also behind the instrument cluster there is one
