  1. now i have the brake relay ticking when i turn the key, there has to be an immobiliser gitted to it thats the problem
  2. from looking at the diagram and then looking at the wiring the only thing i can think of being the problem is a bad or no earth will have to investigate further
  3. western and maverik i would love to know what the yellow connector is because im sure there is one bolted on the bulkhead of mine
  4. it also doesnt help that wire colours change from the engine back into the loom from when the engine was changed
  5. haynes they dont seem to show much but then i dont realy know what im lookin at when it comes to wiring diagrams. there is one spare connector and nothing that will connect to it. i had a go at swapping the relay and no luck, i also found another relay in the garage and tried that and no luck, it is ready to fire up once i fit the exhaust and put in diesel but i dont really want to do it without the electrics being right.
  6. there was only one connector and nothing that would fit into it
  7. you wouldnt be able to point me in a more specific direction for that multiplug would you, cheers
  8. finally i have got the engine to turn over but had to take all black tape/conduit of the loom to find the right wires but the wire coming from the starter changes colour in the middle of the loom to a large white with red trace this wire then goes into a relay and when the correct wires are connected to the ignition nothing happens. when i by-pass this realy and extend this wire back to the igniton in replace of the small white with red trace the engine will turn over nicely, i cannot understand what this realy does, pic of the relay below (right relay)
  9. yalan, i wish my wiring was as neat as that, i prob should do this conversion while i am sorting out my electrics
  10. i had to put a new floor on a 14ft indespension beaver tail back in june, the fella said he wanted 6x2 treated timber put on it so we did and i seen it a few weeks ago in person and it has held up extremly well just a bit dirty considering at has been carrying scrap metal, scrap cars and probably alot more. how long it does last is another question.
  11. adam fair play to you for doing this im having trouble just reconnecting my old wiring loom
  12. will take a look at that. i have just tried uploading a diagram and a few pics but it aint letting me at the minute.
  13. will do, it looks like a 300tdi ignition switch but not sure if it is though
  14. cheers for that western, just have to find which terminal each one goes, i cant seem to get any reading when switched with a multimeter though.
  15. there is two heavy wires one is brown and one is brown with a red trace. i do have a connecting wire which converts the large wire size to the terminal size on the ignition switch. i do have a heavy white wire and 3 smaller wires which are white, one has a red trace one has an orange trace and one has a black trace, most people i speak to have the igntion switch that is black and has the 5 terminals, cheers for the replys
  16. its a 1989 110 that i believe had a 2.5 petrol at one time but now has an iveco 2.5td
  17. would anybody know what coloured wires go to which terminal on the ignition switch below. it is numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 number 2 has the double spade terminal, cheers.
  18. i have just read this thread from start to finish and sm really impressed, you have an eye for detail. one thing that did cross my mind is do you have heavy duty springs to cope with all this weight
  19. a bigger compressor is invaluable, i had a 3hp 50L but that packed up after two years then decided to pay the money and got a new 200l and wired it up with a 32 amp blue socket and on its own separate fuse and it has never missed a beat no matter what tool i have used with it. having it wired to a separte fuse allows me to isolate it from electrictiy supply when not in use.
  20. a shipping container would be handy alright but good access and space is needed for them, i would prefer a home built timber shed with a simple concrete base as you can customise it to your own needs. they cost more but worth the extra money
  21. i am rebuilding a 1989 defender 110 or landrover 110 nut sure exactly which one because i am aware that 1989 was the year they changed but anyway i am now at the stage where i am ready to start the engine for the first time in three years, yes it has taken a while. i have wired it up with a split charge and carefully read the instructions that came with it, when i turned the key nothing happened not a single light on the dash or a click. i am no automotive electrician but im am nearly sure it is something to do with the starter motor or alternator not being earthed correctly or i hav the wrong wires connected to the ignition. would anybody be able to tell me which wires connect to the ignition. the landrover was a 2.5 petrol i think from reading the chassis number but now has an iveco 2.5td which i think was fitted by frogs island, any help would be greatly appreciated.
  22. i have used the gas torch with the yellow bottles the gas last quite a long time and it does give a lot of heat and the flame is not huge so it can bue used to heat nuts and bolt where a grinder cannot go, it can be a huge stress saver
