Early to late 110 axle swap
Kierran.M.110 replied to Kierran.M.110's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Yeh I knew I'd need a later prop as well but someone said to me they was different ratios so I thought I'd ask here and check -
Hi not sure if this has been talked about before or not but I have an defender 110 with the drum braked Salisbury axle which has blown the diff and halfshafts due to excessive play I think. My question is are the newer 110 axles with the smaller diff housing size and disk brakes the same ratio as my old Salisbury, as I would like the higher clearance for off road. Cheers.

This may be a slightly weird request but has anyone got a defender dash apart that they could tell me the size conduit pipe that goes to the demister vent or does any one know this size of the pipe.

This thread is for a mate of mine who has recently got a landrover 90 with a 2.25 petrol and brand new Webber carb but the gearbox and transfer box resembles a box of chocolate due to it being left in diff lock. He's wanted a landrover for years but due to increasing prices has not been able to afford one and being offered this at reasonable money he jumped on it. Long story short he wants to know what a 2.25 petrol is worth as he will be doing a diesel swap. Also this may not be the right place to post and please tell me if not welcome to any offers, a video can be sent of the engine running as it is still in the vehicle without a gearbox

Thanks for the replys I don't care about looking factory I will take a look at the archive now and the discovery is arriving this evening so I don't have a lot of time -
i have a 1995 disco that im going to use the engine to fit to my defender, i know this has been covered many times before but which is the best gearbox option original lt77 or the disco r380 ideally i need the quickest route and i do have a mig welder so welding is no problem

Intercooler install options
Kierran.M.110 replied to Kierran.M.110's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Well the engine is already in and has been for a number of years the problem is an intercooler was never fitted when it was done. The exhaust has plenty of room to go down and runs along the chassis rail and crosses behind the transfer box and joins to the last 2 sections of a defender system . I'm away from home at the min so I can't get any right pictures for you -
Intercooler install options
Kierran.M.110 replied to Kierran.M.110's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
I have been looking at a few intercoolers over the last few days and I may not be able to use one in front of the rad as I have a winch that is set back into the grill so space there is limited. I also have another head ache which is that on a 200/300tdi the turbo is on the passenger side where as on the iveco engine the turbo is on the drivers side making the pipe work a bit tricky unless I put the intercooler on the drivers side and the radiator on the passenger side that way there is plenty of room for pipe work. -
I have just finished rebuilding my 1989 110 hardtop which had an iveco 2.5 turbo engine fitted before I got it. Now that I have started driving it I feel that the engine has more to give and doesn't currently have an intercooler. It's using a full width radiator that I think would have been used for petrol engines, my problem is which intercooler would I be able to fit with this radiator or would I have to change to a 300 tdi type radiator and intercooler.

What 110 Is This Please Help
Kierran.M.110 replied to Victor_32's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
victor_32, its nice to see another irish young lad i'm 19 and i rebuilt mine over the last 3 years, i would advise you to stay away from anything cheap as i have been to look at a few and they have been only fit for the scrapheap, definitely buy a standard one first as a lot of people bodge them over here for example when i said to a local i was going to put on a 2" lift they said it would be easy, just stick a bit of 2" box section under the spring seats and its job done. What part of ireland are you in i have a 1989 110 myself havn't put it on the road yet though -
i can get pics if need be of what they are like i have two, one 200m long in the front as i have a bulkhead in mine and a 300mm in the back

Roof Top Light Bar, how to?
Kierran.M.110 replied to NMontanari's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
i found a grommet that was just big enough to take the size cable that needed to be ran through the body work drilled the hole just in front of the mount for the light bar and used tigerseal ( any type windscreen sealant im sure would work)to fill around the grommet inside and out and it has worked for me water hasnt leaked in yet
