  1. yes a 4.6 p38 will put a smile on your face and if you slip it into sport mode wil show most things on the road a clean pair of heels , mind you the fuel guage needle moves nearly as quickly as the speedo just make sure all your bushes and bearings are up to scratch as the behmoth is not the lightest of things and a wobbly p38 in a corner at ehem 70 is 'fun' belive me
  2. a while ago there was a lad who built a replica of the vehicle from a 4x4 is born his name is Martin Croft he had a build thread on the scorpion website which has dissapeared into cyberspace does anyone have any contact details for Mr croft you can pm me to save listing personal info on the web
  3. send warn an email and quote the seriel number they will tell you exactly what it is d.o.m etc
  4. mmm the guy driving it had 5 children in it with him at the time !!!!!!!!! luckily they are all allright but it could have been a very very different story
  5. zuzu lump !!! i'd have thought it'd be easy nuff to pick one of those up cheaply without spending dosh on yer own loads of them in scrap yards here assuming its nothing out of the ordinary
  6. i had this or something similar on one that was left for months with a flat battery and had to go back to manually setting the immobiliser with the door key a 4 digit code from memory it should be on a card in the hand book service book so many turns left so many right and so on if you get it wrong you have to wait for half an hour or so b4 you can retry the becm was clicking on that one and dash lights were all lit but no go until we entered the cose then voila off she went
  7. well they wee led lights are worth the money i picked up two of the larger ones and 1 little one to throw in the glove boxes of land rovers here
  8. no thats all i really need to know i'll whip off the diff guards and steering guard the other bits can stay where they are thanks s
  9. thanks for the links to the websites , i was really looking for pointers from someone who had had a 300 and a td5 and swapped stuff over too or who knew the differences in chassis dimension
  10. right lads i have a 300 disco with a southdown rear tank guard steel replacement 1 piece rear bumper and a 6mm steel front winch bumper , qt diffguards /3 piece steering guard im being offered a 04 td5 disco by a friend how much of the offroad stuff will i be able to change over from the 300 disco any one have any ideas
  11. i stand corrected i knew one was longer than the other cos i was measuring both trying to decide which to stick in an 80". disco 380 disco77 or defender 380 ????? all going to be fun cos it used to have a series box in there very short prop at the back methinks i'll get me tape out again and post up for posterity shaft and bellhousing lenths
  12. best thing to do is ring ashcrofts afaik from my stuff here the bellhousing is common between a defender r380 and a discovery r380 they will both bolt directly to the back of a v8 block that was fitted with an lt77 the r380 bellhousing is longer than the one for the lt77 that would suggest to me that the shaft is longer too and im told by a friend that tried to do it that it was NOT possible to use the defender gear linkage mechanism on a discovery box what exactly are you trying to fit to what as im completely at sea now where does the td5 stuff come in to the mix if you just want to fit a r380 to your v8 engine assuming its a gearbox designed to sit behind the 8 pot then all you need is any bellhousing from a v8 r380 ie a ftc3922
  13. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=42960&view=&hl=v8 bellhousing&fromsearch=1
  14. just out of interest, i went and had a look this afternoon as i was reseating some bfgs a friend that were leaking round the rim , and looking at modular rims /land rover alloys and old series riveted rims i honestly cant see that much of a difference on the bead seat so i stuck a tubeless tyre on an old riveted rim and it seated fine, mind you that was with a compressor might be different with a foot pump it sealed and wasn't leaking i'll see what its like in the morning
  15. the shafts on v8 lt77s and v8 r380s are different lenths as are the bellhousings the defender r380 bellhousing is exactly the same as a r380 discovery one
  16. well the brake lines are fastened to the body in the inner wings at the front so need to be undone there the rear ones too the fuel lines are fastened to the chassis but come up to the bulkhead in the engine bay ,the filler pipe and the breather also need seperating from the body you wont do it with 4 blokes its too heavy but a series of jacks and supports should see you able to do it if you go slowly you will see what needs disconnecting as you go
  17. will d3 wheels fit d2 hubs mate of mine haas been offered a nice set s
  18. 12 body bolts steering brake lines fuel lines, radiator & pipes and some wiring that's about it, it's relatively easy taking off the body putting another one back is a bit trickyer but easy if you take your time
  19. would it not be a simple operation to drill two holes in it
  20. ok .!looks like that's whats happened i never really looked when i took the tyres off that was ages ago and i gave them to a mate who powder coated them for me .i have tr414 valves they are too small for these rims but are a perfect fit for a brand new modular rim so tractor valves or tubes i guess mind you some of those might be a better bet than car valves for offroad anyways
  21. i have some modular rims without valves in them what size valve stem do i need for these the normal car type is too small and will just pull in and out by hand
  22. well i can add one to that and its the sleeping wasp awakes dance and it involves a pair of levi 501s on the line a friday evening in summer and a certain unhappy but particulally vengefull wasp the b'''er got me seven times before i was able to 'get mekecksoff' so to speak to the eternal amusement of my missus who witnessed the whole thing and please no jokes about stings and swellings i heard them all at the time
  23. thanks i'll go shopping for some of that and give it a whirl
