  1. Maybe there would be a way to show certain section titles but lock there content to unregistered visitors? Im not sure how simple this would be though. Im sure ive seen something similar in other forums.
  2. Im glad to see this sub section going ahead. Couple of things though..... Firstly, im sorry Ralph that my idea has added to your already hectic workload on LR4x4. I did offer my time. Secondly, isnt the name of the game these days about attracting new blood to register on the forum? If thats the case, dont A&M think that it was a bad idea to add this incredibly useful sub section into a section that unregistered visitors can access? Wouldnt it have been better to make this a separate entity that you would have to register in order to view??
  3. Seeing as ive now tried 2 different td5 gears in 2 different 200tdi motors, im starting to think they just dont like each other. I have a feeling that when you tighten the intermediate tube its still gonna clunk Maybe not quite as bad mind you Im erring more towards simons modification. Posts #6 & #14 of this thread http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=76349 Cheers
  4. At last, an idea of mine goes ahead... Who'd have thought.....
  5. Maybe in Pauls case. Will have to wait and see what he reports back. But not in my case, as i dont even have the wipers fitted..
  6. Id have been swearing my ass off... Im the same with rattles. Gotta find them. Thats how i know i need to fix the clunk from wiper motor. Every time i used the wipers id be swearing. Have you noticed if the rack tube is connected into the wheelboxes properly?
  7. Sorry to highlight that to you Paul Thanks for the video. Im surprised i never heard you swearing in it when you saw that!
  8. Yep its a DLW000020 i bought. Genuine as well as i couldnt remember if the one i had originally was a genuine part or pattern. As you can see its been a while since i bought it lol. Interested to to find out if you can hear anything from yours Paul. Ralph thats an interesting point you make about changing gear shaft. The problem is, it just seems to be moulded in. No obvious fixings.
  9. That could be a plan Barry. Mind you gawd knows how much a machine shop would charge to machine out the bushes and fit custom ones to the size if the gear shaft?
  10. Afraid so Ralph Ive now tried 2 different 140 gears in 2 different motors, and always get the same thing. I think there must be some difference between the 200tdi gear/bush interface, and the td5 gear/bush interface. The td5 gear seems to be a tiny bit smaller than the 200tdi gear. Like i say maybe im being picky, but there definately is a slight clunk when using that combo of motor/gear. Maybe i should do what Simonr did in a 2012 thread i just read whereby he fitted old style 300tdi wheelboxes into his td5 bulkhead. This would let me use the original gear.
  11. Dont think thats possible Ralph. Its a soft brass bush about an inch long pressed into the motor body. Besides the 140 gear is a little slack in both bushes.
  12. Could be Lewis. I know the metal racking i painted with it has been stood outside for 3 years so it would be about 2012 i bought the stuff.
  13. Hi Paul, The motor im using is a brand spanking Lucas one. I replaced the original thinking that it was the cause of the clunk as the 140 gearwheel seemed to be a loose fit in the brass bush in the body of the motor. What i have noticed is that the original gearwheel is a nice tight-ish fit in this bush, whereas the 140 gearwheel just slides in and out. Edit: Maybe im being too picky and i wont hear it when engine running etc, but there is definately a difference between the gears as when i had the original 200tdi style one in, it was near silent.
  14. Im not understanding the folk that have had bad experiences with POR15. Ive painted mild steel with the stuff on areas that are outside in the elements, dropped tools and equipment on the steel and it doesnt even chip. Maybe i got the only good cans in existance lol
  15. I reckon that might work with an ali one, but not so sure about the stainless ones? Might be wrong though.
  16. Surely easy enough to find out where 5 Airborne operated...
  17. Just discovered something very interesting... Well maybe not. As above when I tested my new wiper motor out, the clunk had gone. Sorted i thought. Think again.... As soon as i fitted my 140 tooth gearwheel into the motor and retested....guess what......CLUNK! Grrrrrrrr! So i reckon that the gearwheel is maybe cheapo and decide to purchase a new genuine LR item. Shiny new gearwheel arrived today and i hurredly fitted it thinking i could finally put this to bed and get on with building rest of the dash.... Nope. CLUNK! Im stuffed. The only think i can think of is that the shaft of the 140 tooth gearwheel is very slightly smaller than the shaft of the old type 200tdi gearwheel. They must be made by a different company. The td5 (140) gearwheel is black whereas the 200tdi gearwheel is white. So im now in a position where if i refit the original gearwheel the wiper sweep will be wrong. Any thoughts other than put up with the clunk (which would do my head in) or buy a td5 wiper motor (which i think then means i cant fit my old 200tdi dash)
  18. I suspected that might be the case. Especially as its a stainless one. Luckily i have decent access. Think i'll get the grinder out as its not in a hollow section thankfully...
  19. I have discovered a loose stainless rivnut on my bulkhead. Is it possible to just nip it up using the nut/bolt method or will i need to try and remove it somehow? Thought id ask opinions here before trying it and totally buggering it up..
  20. Another thing to note is, just because the article was printed on the 5th January, it doesnt mean to say thats when it was reported. The vehicle could still very well have been like that only for a day or two..
  21. Easy tiger... I was referring to the idiots that thought it a good idea to call the cops for something like that..
  22. Nowhere in the article does it say that it was on stands for long. Only that the vehicle had been on the road for "a while". What if the guy doesnt have a driveway? Is he not supposed to remove the wheels for whatever reason? The vehicle wasnt ilegal. It was insured, taxed etc. no double yellow lines.... Im sorry but if i was in a position where i didnt have a driveway and i needed to work on the wheels for a day or two, i would be very angry indeed if someone called the police. Some people need to get a grip on reality. We dont all have big driveways/garages/yards etc.
  23. Maybe there was some form of contaminant on white90's steel? I dont know. All i can say is ive used POR15 on a multitude of things way before i was even into landrovers, and i wouldnt use anything else. Its the toughest paint ive ever seen.
