  1. Is there any way of checking the condition of the differential unit of the transferbox when the box is stripped. Will it be necessary to strip the differential unit? I was hoping to avoid it if possible...
  2. Thanks for the info Ralph Just looked em up... Jesus h christ... How come there so fookin dear compared to the older ones?
  3. As title. Can anyone help with the part numbers. Can only find the numbers for the older type. I presume they can be retro-fitted to older type doors etc... TIA
  4. No-one with a defender that has engine and gearbox oil-cooler?
  5. Im about to start plumbing in the radiator on my 4.6 build. I have the bracket on the side of my R380 for oil-cooling. I also have the bracket on the front cover of my V8 so the engine oil can be cooled. The problem is that according to the 110 parts book both the engine-oil cooler and the gearbox-oil cooler fit in the same position. Am i reading this wrong or can i only have one or the other? TIA Phil
  6. Dude i said main harness in title. was just stating what engine type it was for. Sorry for confusion.
  7. I think you misunderstand jon. Regarding the MS side of things i was going to get in touch with nige, however im looking for the main vehicle wiring harness that includes fusebox, dials, instrument binnacle etc etc..
  8. Wow. Didnt think there would be 4 different V8 looms! It will be for a hotwire setup thats going to be megasquirted. Thanks
  9. As title. Would appreciate very much if someone could provide part number for me. Looked at parts manual but it only gives part number based on chassis number. Considering ive swapped engines this is no use... Phil
  10. very true, very true...but i fear if you galved the door skins you would be able to wring yer wet clothes on em like granny used to do!
  11. galved as a unit? eeeeeek! it would have more wrinkles than zelda.....
  12. When fitting my R380 onto my V8, will i need the same clutch release parts as shown here in the 110 parts book for the LT77 gearbox. Im thinking i will be needing the exact same parts but just wanted to be 100% sure before accumulating them.
  13. Have a look at this Interesting bobtail. Asking a lot of the LT77 though!!!!
  14. As title. Can anyone vouch for them? Seem very reasonably priced for their recon R380s compared to some others. Wondered if anyone from on here had one of their gearboxes..
  15. Looking to buy a clutch for the 4.6 Been offered one but its from a RR classic 3.5. Guy doesnt know if its from a 4 or 5 speed box. Is there differences? Could i use it on my R380?
  16. Ive been trying to fit the rubber seal that fits between the windscreen frame and the roof. Its a PITA to do and i reckon it will be a lot easier if i can lube the rubber seal before i fit it into the recess in the roof. Thing is i understand that some lubes can melt rubber. What can i use on it that wont do the seal any damage?
  17. The parts book i have shows the outer seal consisting of 3 parts. MTC6568 x 1 & MUC6400 x 2 Just wondering if there is a more modern 1-piece part (instead of 3 separate pieces) listed on later parts diagrams? Phil
  18. On stripping my transferbox ive discovered that someone before me has fitted a cross-drilled input gear.. According to ashcrofts some of these can cause a whine if they havent been 'crowned'. Now as the transferbox is an unknown to me, should i risk rebuilding it with the cross-drilled gear or should i get another one from ashcrofts? Has anyone noticed this whine, and if so how bad is it? Phil
  19. Hello Marco, Apologies for digging up an old thread but i was wondering if you ever got to the bottom of this problem. One thing i was thinking was that you mention that you had a cross-drilled input gear. According to Ashcrofts, some cross-drilled gears can cause a whine due to them not being crowned. Maybe this was causing the whine?
  20. I fitted my new one into the back of my mk 3 mondeo with rear seats down - surely therefore it would fit in the transit?
  21. Must be the nicest disco ive seen.....
  22. How exactly do i check the diff now that i have the box completely stripped?
  23. Thanks Dave. Thats reassuring. Ive noticed that on the website, you mention checking the diff before continuing with rebuild. How exactly do i check the diff now that i have the box completely stripped? Phil
