  1. Cant remember so i'll just post it.. What i did was bolt the V8 block/bellhousing to the gearbox (in my case R380) and then temporarily bolt the gearbox to its mountings. Obviously the weight will be taken by a hoist at the front. When you lower the block (with engine mounts bolted) down you can scribe round the chassis mounts leaving an outline on the chassis legs. Then remove the lot and get about welding. Does that make sense? Im kinda tired so dunno if im explaining it as clear as i could lol. What gearbox do you plan on using? EDIT: What you DONT wanna do is make a guesstimate measurement from the front, weld em in, then discover that your gearbox wont bolt to its mountings!
  2. Happy to help. If you need info on the best way to position the brackets give me a shout. Phil
  3. You will need to fix V8 chassis engine mounts. See link to my build below. I had a TD5 chassis and needed to change the chassis mounts in order to fit the RV8. The RV8 mounts are different from the diesels i believe.. You wil need to weld them on. Although the brackets themselves have holes for them to be bolted, thats only if you have a V8 chassis as they have the captive nuts needed to just bolt the brackets on.. Phil
  4. Yea i think you can get sliders that drop down below the sills in order to keep them but usually they replace the sill panels. Phil
  5. Insurance. Going up just like everything else in this sodding country...
  6. Reading through the transferbox overhaul manual im wondering what steps i need to follow, and what steps to disregard. For example, if you scroll down to page 37 where its describing the steps involved in stripping down the front output housing, step 23 states that you should remove the differential bearing track from the housing and discard it. However Ashcrofts master rebuild kit does not include this track so id be ill-advised to bin it. How many steps in the manual should i ignore? I dont want to strip it down too far and find that i dont have adequate parts supplied in the rebuild kit... Phil
  7. If i use a cam that has 0.465" lift on the inlet AND exhaust sides, will i get away with not machining the valve guides? I seem to remember hearing that you could get away with not machining the guides unless the cam had 0.5" or more of lift? Phil
  8. Do away with those flimsy pieces of carp and fit some decent rock sliders.. Phil
  9. Ah thats the stuff Reb! I'll keep a lookout for that when i get to stripping it in the next few days. So if mine hasnt got the cross-drilled gear, i need to look closely for additional wear elsewhere?
  10. Yes James - very funny I'll give Dave at Ashcrofts a call when i get the serial number tomorrow.
  11. Retro - maybe my box has one already. How will i tell? Reb - no worries mate. I'll give you a shout if i need more info. Thanks
  12. Thanks for the manual Reb. Helps a lot. I didnt think it was a lot of money for the kit. So long as it includes quality bearings ie timken etc. Cross-drilled input gear eh? What are the benefits of that then? Phil
  13. I will be rebuilding my LT230 soon. Im gathering together all the info i can before i start and have a good study. Few questions though. 1. Can someone give me a link to the LT230 Rebuild Manual? Ive tried 1 link that i found but the link isnt working. 2. Are there any parts i would be better replacing over and above what Ashcrofts provide in their master rebuild kit? 3. When i get to the stage where i have a large pile of parts on my workbench, would i be better getting the case sleeved where the intermediate shaft exits the case in order to prevent future leaks in that area? 4. Any other potential banana skins i need to watch out for? Thanks Phil
  14. No no. Id just have considered using one instead of the RV8 if i knew they were that price!
  15. Jesus Fridge, tell me now why dontcha!! Phil
  16. Wow. you must have got bargain of the century there. How much are these?? Phil
  17. It didnt happen to be a scouser that told you that bollox was it??? Phil
  18. What happened to this thread? Did it go bang!
  19. Ive got loads of boxes full of bits n bobs that im slowly using up during my 110 build. I came across a couple of little brackets and im buggered if i can remember what there from.. Hopefully someone will recognize what they are.
  20. It doesnt list them in the 110 parts book, but for bracket number 332201 (sidepanel support brackets) there are rubber washers. Could someone with microcat please check if it shows them, and what part number they are? Thanks Phil
  21. Cheers. Any potential banana skins i should watch out for?
  22. Ive been asked to fit a new clutch to a 1.8 petrol freelander1. Not sure how much i should charge for the priviledge? What would be a price fair to both parties? Phil
