  1. Yep that's the one Ralph. Problem is it doesn't explain if it's really necessary to change that bush or even how I'd check it for wear, or even if I could get away with a pattern part...
  2. When rebuilding the transfer box is it necessary to replace this bush. I seem to remember a post on here saying that it was but can't find it just now. If it is adviseable to renew it would I get away with a pattern part opposed to a genuine one as its only a steel bushing...
  3. I wouldnt even park down wind from a marina in case the wind transferred the metal cancer...
  4. Ok so not strictly LR related but im planning a 3day stay away in france. Will be driving there via eurotunnel. Just looking for recommendations / advice / things to avoid etc from people who have been. Where is nice / scenic etc. Must include taking in sights of Paris etc. Will have only about £400 - £500 to spend on accommodation. Any ideas?
  5. The problem with the paraffin sprayer and the schutz type gun mentioned above is the fact that they are syphon type guns rather than pressurized guns. Thats why it has to be a proper pressurized injector like the one i have pictured. Thanks for the ideas though
  6. Sh*te monocoque like everything else nowadays whatever it ends up looking like...
  7. Already have that type. Its absolutely useless at spraying cavities with the extension wand. Nothing comes out the end no matter how thin i make the stuff or how much pressure i use. Schutz type guns arent any use. It has to be a proper wax injection gun similar to
  8. Does anyone have a proper wax injector gun i could possibly borrow. Im a bit skint just now so spending £60 on one just to do the inside/top of my bulkhead is out the question.. Will pay for postage immediately through paypal. TIA Phil
  9. Ah. Bugger.. Thanks for the info Dave.
  10. Started rebuilding my LT230 today. Due to excessively bad wear inside the centre diff casing i bought a 'new' centre diff from evil-bay. Now before you all take in a sharp breath, the guy had thousands of transactions with a feedback of 100%. Assured me that although it looked rusty on the outside, it was actually brand new and had just been stood in a garage for years. At £40 delivered i took a punt on it. As soon as i got the diff i stripped it to inspect inside, and true to the sellers word, it was spanking new! Bonus! HOWEVER.... when i offered the low range gear to the diff i noticed something wasnt quite right. Its difficult to explain (so ive included pics) but the gear itself fits over a boss on the diff unit and when home, the gear should be flush with the boss. On the old diff this is the case, but with the new diff the gear sits proud of the boss as if it isnt fully home, but when you look underneath it is fully home. Please help! 1. Old diff without gear fitted 2. New diff without gear fitted 3. Old diff with gear fitted 4. New diff with gear fitted See the difference in the centre where the gear fits over the locating boss?
  11. Never one to rain on anyones parade but........ i think it would need to be pretty majorly hacked up. For one thing where is the engine / box going to go if the cab/front seats are right at the front?
  12. Just bought a new, genuine one from fleabay for £50 thats been sitting around a shed for a decade. What a find!!
  13. Nige and Les - i was always going to fit ashcrofts one-piece cross pin. Thing is, im not sure how thats going to help with the wear that seems to be apparent on the inside of the diff case? Do i need to buy another diff? Does the wear make any difference? Les - nice build by the way. Great stuff.
  14. Hmmm Dunno what to do for the best. Dont fancy putting it all together with new cross pins etc only to have to take it back out again in a few months.
  15. Why thank you kind sir... Dont really get how that would help if the original hole has ovalled.. Surely oil would just seep between the original hole and the speedisleeve then? I dunno.
  16. little update on this. Stripped the diff today. Not good news. Cross-pins and gears completely worn. More worryingly however was the discovery of deep wear ridges on the inside of the diff case where the curved brass washers go. Can someone please tell me if this is acceptable or is this diff completely fubar??
  17. Fridge, what the hell is a speedisleeve? Thats the one reb. I spoke to a local engineering shop today and he says he can shrink fit a steel insert into the bare case for around £50. As well as shrink-fitting it he says he will also pin it in place for added security.
  18. On inspection of my bare LT230 case, i have discovered that there is some wear in the hole where the intermediate shaft goes through. There are wear ridges in the hole that you can feel with your fingernail. I have read that a good modification is to sleeve this hole with a steel insert. I know for sure that ashcrofts do it though i dont know what they charge. Does anyone know of other companies that carry out this? Just so i can compare prices before i contact ashcrofts. Indeed, could ANY machine shop carry it out? TIA Phil
  19. Couldnt tell you if the seals were leaking Ralph - bought the box to rebuild empty of oil.. However looking at the two flanges today i see that the rear output flange is really bad on the seal face so think ill replace that one and refit the front one.
  20. Apart from looking for visible scores/grooves etc, how can I tell if the flanges on the transferbox need replacing? Would it be prudent to renew them seeing as I have it in bits?
  21. Dave, the transferbox is stripped down to its component parts. The diff unit is out the transferbox. Id have needed to do this before i stripped it, no?
