  1. Hey Jim, Interesting reading back on this stuff. Guys down the club want to know if you've got that stock of waterproof ECU's in yet BTW Is Jenny back in the shop yet ?
  2. Pux, You still looking for a deal on winch rope ? Geezer called Paul on Kentoffroadclub.co.uk forum had some large reels of it sent over from states - worth asking if still has some, as know he had a good deal on it.
  3. 2nd solution is the 1:50,000 digitalised maps that are produced on DVD with a similar feel as Memory Map, covers both north and south I believe and are well cheap. Shame its not in English, but give me an excuse to learn the lingo. Web link: http://www.ngi.be/NL/NL1-10.shtm The DVD for this turned up this morning, they are obviously very trust worthy as have not even paid for it yet, just sent an invoice with the disc - Full install is 2 GB and it asks if you want the Dutch, French or English version. Which is handy as don't have to translate all the menu buttons. For 54 euros this seems to be a bargain - could you imagine getting half the 1:50,000 of all UK from MM for that. It is similar to memory map but not the same, can export to PDA and create routes. And obviously track where you are with a plug in GPS unit. Its not perfect, but for tracking where you are in relationship to geographical features is excellent. As you can tell I'm not into TomTom - unless its for traversing London by car.
  4. Thought I'd let you know how I get rid of my squeaking noises from my 300tdi belt. Not sure why this works anyway have found it works for me. Take the belt off - very easy on a 300tdi, just got to lever the tensioner back. Turn belt inside out, then with a small flathead screwdriver a good light source, track round the grooves - okay take a while but is quite therapeutic after a while, esp if on back and its sunny. Every so ofter you'll come to a inbedded piece of what looks like black carbon about the size of a grain of sugar, carefully prise it out with the screwdriver, then carry onto the next one. When clean put belt back on - hey presto no more squeaks. Of course, if you have a dead bearing in your tensioner, this won't help - but its worth a try. I reckon this causes the belt to slip slightly and squeak. Give the pulleys a quick rub over with a wire brush, whilst belt is off too.
  5. Okay, this I supposed is aimed at anyone who has knowledge of the 300tdi Auto. I have a 300 tdi auto engine and gearbox from a Discovery in my 1987 Ninety, recently had the transfer box changed to the defender one 4.1 ratio or something from the original disco one. Went to start it the other day and started to get a graunch sound before it turns over. Decided to take the starter motor off tonight (each bolt was held on with a decreasing size of nut 17mm 15mm then 13mm very odd). Anyway took it off, and peered into the abyss with my torch - tis very dry in there. Should the flywheel, which I assume is attached to a torque convertor supposed to be lubricated - if so how, also is the starter motor supposed to be lubricated - if so how. Also which I found a tad off, next to the triangle plate - of the flywheel housing where I'd removed the triangular mating plate of the starter motor, there is a perfectly formed round nearest the engine block - which appears to let mud water and all the crud in - any one know whats wrong . Also any thoughts on the graunching noise (I suspect lack of lubrication). Thanks Peter
  6. Jim, Thanks for your post, although have no idea what your talking about Jim - too many technical terms. And how do you do it without Bren being there now or is he ? BTW need to get pair of 764's off of you this week though to replace the stiffer 762's Anyway could'nt wait on an answer, so whilst not busy at work - as per usual , have been looking into this. Short of buying the maps and scanning them in - which as mentioned is like re-inventing the wheel, there are 2 solutions that I have found. 1st solutuion: Already works with Memory Map, and covers the map area 28 in Belgium which is Ypres (Leper to locals), And comes with 1:25000 (high detail) map of north east france. as well as many many 1:20,000 antiquity Trench maps from 1st world war. Web link: http://www.greatwardigital.com/scope.shtml 2nd solution is the 1:50,000 digitalised maps that are produced on DVD with a similar feel as Memory Map, covers both north and south I believe and are well cheap. Shame its not in English, but give me an excuse to learn the lingo. Web link: http://www.ngi.be/NL/NL1-10.shtm As far as Laning goes, are going with locals so should be okay or not as look what happened when I took them laning: No just re-read your reply Jim and it makes sense, just got to fill in the missing words. Ozi as in Australia Ozi ? Confused me.
  7. Need a fuel tank from an Early RR. Anyone know the part number and the best source. As its a rebuild, would prefer a new one - maybe been lurking under all the other stuff that has not been sold yet in someones shop. Its a long shot, but if I do't ask... Thanks Peter
  8. Has anyone got (they'd will let me copy), upto date digitialised maps of Belgium. This is for use with Memory-Map. Idealy 1:20,000. Am interested in 40+ miles radius of Ypres (Leper) at the moment. But also got maket for whole of Belgium too. I am led to believe these maps are available from NGI in Belgium, but don't want to have to scan them in and cut and paste them if I don't have to. As is a hell of alot of work. Not interested in TomTom style rubbish - want them specifically for Laning, and of as high detail as 1:25000 OS map. Perhaps someone who has done competitions or laning out there themselves. Finger crossed.

Last time I give Emap shareholders my money, without giving it careful consideration. What do others think ? Read on another forum about LRO now being full of adverts. Peter.
  10. Bomag, Was down these lanes a year or so back now with SouthLondonSurrey-LRC, and we approached two chaps who were 'off piste', and mainly cos they were in LR's. Turns out they had no idea, had bought their vehicles recently and were out for a 'play'. Explained where they could go to pay'n'play sites and about GLASS etc. Have also been down there since and seen the qauds and 'don't give a fik' crowd - not a nice lot. BTW bathtub I know your in the off-road scene, perhaps need to take your Nephew and his mates to one of the serious challenge events, sitck them in with Nick (if still on the scene after Wales last year?) might find they prefer them more, as driving in woods for no reason will eventually bore them. Have you suggested taking them to Bures or Slindon ? Perhaps if go with a bunch of people it'd help ? What your thoughts.
  11. Si, Just heard about this on the grapevine yesterday, glad to hear your okay. Certainly making us think about the entinguisers we have in our clubs vehicles. Only just started to carrying one myself last month to comply with MSA regs - for club insurance. Cheers Peter Twinaxle.com
  12. Can't find anything on the forum's what happened - who won lost etc ?
  13. Going on a little trip in my LR to the mountains in Italy in 4 weeks time. See if I still get vertigo Anyway been trying to work out how to store stuff in the rear of my 90 and reckon I need lidded boxes. Does anyone know of a make or source for such a box that will fit 4 on the bottom layer, 4 on top of that etc, exactly in the rear space of a 90 (with the county style seats up). Expect someone in the 4x4 scene has them somewhere.
  14. Not much difference in price: Mach 5's £115............................................................Alloy Zu's £99 Quite alot of difference when pictured next to each other though: ;
  15. Yeah my thoughts too - need to get someone to test them out I suppose - anyone got SR as their sponsors ?
  16. What does everyone think of Scropions new alloy wheels ?
  17. Got mates driving back, having competed - any official results yet ?
  18. Yes I know woodlands very well, and know they have reduced their limit to 80 vehicles, as it gets gridlock in there with that many. Would have said woodlands is bigger, as have got tyre wash area at exit, and somewhere to park trailered vehicles - perhaps woods are 14 acres, but going to be well boring on a open field with no trees. And is 5 miles from Woodlands - so know which ford everyone will go to for a wash. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=...&q=eynsford Bures is massive, so is Grand Canyon and Slindon, woodlands and Flimwell being lesser so. Interesting points. Will wait to see what daylight forum'ers have to say too.
  19. Got a local land owner, just put in for a 4x4 off road site on a patch of land (London Green belt land). Site is about 14 acres, with out any water or trees - think he might just be going through all the options in the land development list, myself. But assuming for a moment, he's serious. Is 14 acres a viable area to build an enjoyable off road site ? And if so how many vehicle would make it packed ? Are there any smaller public off-road sites anywhere. Sorry forgot to mention on a small patch of this site he wants to stick 4 gypsy vans. Public meeting on Thursday, so want other thoughts on this. Cheers Peter.
  20. Does not give us much time to respond. i.e. by 20 April ? Assume this is the date you mean't. Interesting the NPA (National Parks Authorities) don't actually have to consult any outside bodies like LARA unless a rep makes their presence known. So looks like that's the Peak District out of bounds soon. In fact all National Parks. Cheers Peter
  21. Please excuse my total ignorance of electricity. My origianl alternator recently had rear bearing collapse, and casing meltdown. So am currently in the market for a new one, My 90 is a customised 300tdi automatic twin optima 8274 front winch lugging type. Anyway I had a 100amp alternator previously, am currently borrowing a friends old 65amp one. Are there any consequences of fitting a 120amp alternator ? What is the improtance of the amp rating all about. Is higher better ? Cheers Peter
  22. Actually realised, I can tow the trailer behind the other one.
  23. Hey is it me or does this truck have more than a passing resemblence: To MATER from the CARS movie ?
  24. Can a Sankey, be carried inside another Sankey ? Like if I need to pick up a non road worthy one in my Sankey ?
