  1. I have a 1987 90, with a 300tdi with autobox, and 8274-50 and D44 bumper up front. Twin batteries. Anyway I have a 100amp alternator, and after beginning to get the red glow of death coming on my dash recently under heaver load, assume alternator is trying to tell me something. Does anyone know if any other make or vehicles 100amp alternator will fit - just done a search on google for 100amp alternators: http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&amp...sa=N&tab=wf
  2. 'Cheshunt' M25 Junction 25 (easy to remember), that'll be a lot easier to get to, wonder if its related the LEZ (London Emsion Zone) coming in next year. Whereby anyone without a genuine car classed LR County has to pay £400 or something stupid like that a day to get into the zone ! Also be a good excuse to avoid the M25/M11 traffic jam, at the next junction.
  3. I remember quite a few years back M4x4 sold a modified 300tdi timing cover with a breather in the side of it. Does anyone know if these are available elsewhere, and what the benefit of it is ?
  4. As a side note, I and I know others tend to tke pot luck when going to the plain, as to if its open or flags are up and shut. Found this whilst looking at the Plainwatch info : http://www.tilsheadvillage.com/docs08/08-Sep-SPTA.pdf which might be interest.
  5. Sorry wrote that quite late last night, or very early this morning. Its the temp guage. Engine has been in vehicle for over 3 years now without a problem - except having Turbo replced before trip round alps last year. Think X-eng do a temp sender that is plumbed in line with the pipe that is below the Rad, might see if can get a digital reader for accurate temp of engine - someone must sell something like that by now.
  6. Have been having some strange issues with my 300tdi Automatic 1987 90. The pump was turned up a couple of months ago. Then started to get the dreaded temp guage rise. Have changed everything in a bid to cure it. Thermostat Fan viscous Top hose. Radiator All seemed well again until going on a 15mile drive,I'd stopped for a couple of hours, but within a mile on the way back, noticed temp needle was edging its way off to the red again, oh heck. Water pump + P gasket. now changed. Also timing belt was done, at same time. All seemed well again, drove 5 miles even up a long slow inclne. Stopped for an hour (pub) then after driving back down the long hill ans through a shallow ford slowly, noticed as soon as got to next hill, the needle had moved off to the red yet again. Stopped a minute or two waited for needle to move back to just over half way point on dial (its usually or a least past 8 years been just under half way) Drove another few miles without gauge moving. Apart from the head gasket having not been changed (hope its not going to be this) or the top up rad cap (old 2.5N/A one). The only other problem the vehicle has had recently is I've noticed the alternator light has the faintest of glows sometimes. I'm beginning to wonder if the alternator is the fault causing the fuel gauge to read faulty ? Failing that then it must be the head gasket. Anyone experienced these symptoms at all - and been round the houses only to find a different answer - supposed to be leading a large group up to LRO show this weekend, and am getting a tad stressed about this damn problem.
  7. Sad news. Yet to find out if the group from Thamesmead, North West Kent are anyone we know from the South East. Really feel for those involved. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7600998.stm
  8. Might be able to source some Simex for Capel - what size and type you looking for Simon ?
  9. Okay, no holes barred - see venue website: http://www.tulleysfarm.com/4x4.html Perhaps someone should have amended that too - 'kin thwack was the non rudest one message.
  10. 18 May (weekend before Spring Bank Holiday) 4x4 Market (Southeast) Tulleys Farm, Turners Hill Road, Turners Hill, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 4PE http://www.tulleysfarm.com For all those who went, and found it cancelled - no mention on here or gate - l assume organizers went to New Forest for Rangie bits. Interesting to see website now only lists 8 ? I did not attend as had to get LR ready for MOT tomorrow, but am aware other club members had a wasted 80 miles journey.
  11. My 2 penny's worth. The winches are designed for self recovery, not just dead weight pulling. (Which is the market their sold into) Why not have a 300 foot slope, angle slope to be decided, depending if you can find one that long. Max 150 foot of winch rope each. Vehicle must be winched from start line ( hence steeper the start the better), and must draw rope fully back onto drum before starting second half of hill. Everyone to start and finsish in the vehicle with all kit stowed. Would therefore be a test of the winch, driver, bitch and their chosen anchorage. 'A winch off'. Whilst obbserving all the rules such as gloves and winch blankets. Could even stick a 1000 point punch 3/4 way up, just to give them something tehnical to aim for. Maybe even stick it in an event as a special stage.
  12. Blimey, have they actuall built one yet ? Been following this little car for about 8 years or so now from MDI. http://www.theaircar.com/ Originally chap wanted £1million for turnkey factories all over the world. Car never seemed to get off the ground. Some Greens from Essex who went to the factory , in Southern France were concerned about it running properly in UK climate. Exhaust outputs is h20, and there was no heater, be interesting on winter evenings. Brilliant idea, and would solve Indias and other countries high pollution problems. (Going to make TATA billions) MDi said there was also a factory in Mexico city. The tanks are stored length-ways under the car. The vehicle is very light, so would not suit a heavy 4x4 machine. Electricity to run compressors can come from batteries that have stored enregy from daytime, solar panels and wind turbines, there are other was to generate electricity, not excluding - rigging up all the gyms round the country to the national grid and making 1 hours exercise on treadmills a national pastime. Get the kids to do an hour every morning to power our PC's for the day. Whether it'll happen in our lifetime I don't know but when the oil runs out there's going to be a hell of alot of people wanting these or a donkey.
  13. Could always ask some friends, to club together and have a 3 way split. Yeah is expensive, interesting write up if do search on google from USA: http://www.4x4wire.com/reviews/pullpal00/ It won't grip in loose shale - really. Hey check out these trucks: http://www.jeepinpnw.com/news1.html Interestingly they use the 9000lb one - which folds down to a handy 4ft size - but can't see where in UK to get this one. Actually cant see it on Pull Pal website either - odd
  14. Was out laning on Surrey downs the other weekend with Twinaxle club, and my friends Disco had a leak from the return pipe. To get some idea of how much is pumped back down it. It was enough to drip like a house tap needing a new washer. Why not just use 25% veg oil /75% diesel - just make sure clean filters every 1000 miles. Then come the summer go 50/50. I know people who do this and have a Macro card (Cheaper oil) Personally when I do mine, I'll buy the kit - is only about £450 and will pay for itself very quickly. (As in one of the LR rags this month) Think you'd sell your Disco much quicker with it fitted BTW. Reckon we are going to see lots more of these as Diesel goes up to £1.50 a litre over the next year !! BTW it leaves a trail of mobile chip van behind you. You'll get put at the back of a laning trip, as it truly honks.
  15. Don't know who is sole importer of Pull Pal, but Difflock do stock it. http://shop.difflock.com/pullpal-m-4.html?...357780d5d7ebe71 Someone on one of the other topics said they had to weld angle Iron to the back of their spade of a Pull Pal as it broke. So assume they are good for some applications and not others. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?s=&s...st&p=214754 Hope this helps.
  16. Daan, Blimey you would not believe the grief that post has just caused me and it would appear X-eng. It had been mentioned to me - which I failed to make clear in my original post that I might have been supplied with a prototype that should not have been sold in the first place, as had a design fault !! I'm not sure if its now appropriate to discuss this any further or how it happened. This would then explain why no one else has reported any problems with theirs. In fact after the 'grief' I've just had, think I might just sell my Land Rover and take up Mountain Biking instead. I seem to be a bit of a disaster zone at the moment. .........................
  17. Hey sorry for breathing, but thought it was still a Free country and a Free forum. A forum is for people with a common interest to discuss all manner of things that they are commonly interested in, please don't oppress me. So what if I buy something and it breaks, and its of interest to fellow user, I'll post it on here - least I have not posted the pics of my now removed xbrake or those crappy broken Chinese made T=max winches. Ebays been killed by sellers not letting you buy as it didn't make their undisclosed reserve, and forums are being killed as your not allowed to have freedom of speech anymore. Rub the bottle and release the Genie - These guys aren't Gods, they are engineers and designers - things break - and are re-developed. Si has already asked me for my advice from using it. I feel we should be allowed to express our opinion in products we use, if you disagree - what are you doing on here ?
  18. Jim, Yeah, nice plough Jim - the farmer wanted him to come back and do the whole field : (From JBS 'slip slop fun punch challenge' Sept 2004) Took the plunge a month b4 X-mas by getting an X-anchor direct from Exact. My Xmas present to myself... Like your advice above, Jim and agree with it. Pick one that suits, and go practice However on our 3rd use of it at Broxhead Common, AWDC event on 27th Dec, it bent / broke !!! Did not notice until 2 days later, either. Chris is aware, and looking into it with Si. Think this might herald a re-design. Below is a picture of a prototype Peter Failed to mention this so a kindly moderator has obilidged Hope your having an excellent family holiday in Exmoor - see ya soon. Cheers, Peter TwinAxle.com Kent LRC SlsLRC AWDC
  19. Manic, Sorry only just read this, had a laning trip around Surrey byways today. Had people from Twinaxle.com club and one from SLSLRC.org.uk Good days laning. Peter
  20. That's just so awsome, thanks guy. Appreciate it.
  21. Anyone got an imperial tool set nearby ? Need to undo a nut on a 8274 solenoid pack, its not 10mm too big and its not 9mm as slightly too small.
  22. Is it me or if they did it in Silver it would vanish. Blue Peter lights yougurt pots brigade space 1999 effect, I wonder if the lights will be better or worse. LED's on rear - hmmm just took mine out, as thats so last year That rad will fill up with cheese - wonder if they'll do a model as a cheese grater - that'd be cool. I really want one, but then again I still really want a SV, a 50 V8 auto, a mint Series1, a Cuthebert...............a helicopter.. There seems to be alot of man hours added onto the price. X-eng lights would need to be added of course, and a decent winch, possibly a tray back, Simex - okay so its a pose mobile for the Brighton crowd - can't be for London lot as it won't be allowed in the exclusion zone with the new emissions. Wow B) Going to be drooling over these come the 60th shows next year. BTW the chap that sells the original SVX grill at the shows going to be piffed - its a different design.
  23. Tested to destruction Okay thought I'd let you know I have been using a Lodar for a year now, since coming into ownership of an 8274 both supplied by Gigglepin. I'd never used the wander lead with the winch, so had no idea really how hard they are to use, when out on your own, with an unforgiving inward runover like the warn winch has - I'd say its dangerous without a remote. The lodar packed up the other week - checked with Jenny at Gigglepin and yep - it was one day past a year of ownership I checked on the Lodar website to see what the problem might be, as the handset had been eating 9v batteries at the rate of one per outing - not good when you need to winch and the battery is dead - only really got caught out once. They had a comprehensive instructions on how to test the controller - which I'd also fitted upside down on the front left wing. If you ever have to crack one open, you realize why its waterproof - tight is not the word, even with the 6 screws undone, still needed to prise it apart. With it all attached, they have a test sheet to run through (if yes then its not that etc)- I know I had power and earth to the unit and the solenoids all worked fine. Ah no light coming on controllers PCB test lamp -> unit dead return to supplier. What a cracking product - comprehensive diagnosis sheet and best of all has a standard 2 year warranty Now have a new one to fit (Sorted out very quickly via Jenny at Gigglepin), just need a few hours spare to get on with installing it. Hopefully before going to Wales next week. I did notice when marshalling at Slindon the other week that Rob Jones and John Hall used a Lodar - well John had the handset in his top pocket. So thought okay these guys probably dunk their truck much more than I have ever done in the crud. Had a good look for their controller, they have it mounted on the ceiling of the cab. Assume as need to run wires front and back for both winches - or maybe this is where they had the solenoids too. Perhaps I'll install it same time I put on my new X-eng ground anchor mount B)
  24. Shame you can't get Colways anymore then - reports in northern press say they have gone into receivership last week !
  25. Anyone used one - got one - now the best one to get - where I can get one from ? Bearing packer prefer manual one, as got no gas
