  1. The only way you'll tell is to fit the metal brakcet that goes into the wing, clip it in place, make sure both clips are sitting on the bottom of the opening in the wing and then you'll see It is close to the gutter - but doesn't touch it and the windscreen bracket should line up perfectly if you've got the two clips sitting properly in the wing Pictures of mine fitted on www.defenderxtech.com - can't link to photobucket in work
  2. We've always fitted Cobras to all our vehicles... Have yet to let us down and are good units
  3. For a nice stable outfit keeping both the trailer and vehicle level is ideal, but this does not mean there shouldn't be any noseweight. If in order to achieve positive noseweight the tow vehicle sags 'slightly' at the rear this is better than no noseweight... BUT notice I said slightly I love it when you see a family estate or saloon car on the motor way, with 5 people on board, full of luggage in the back, caravan in tow and the front wheels look like they are coming off the floor at the rear end is sitting on the bump stops!
  4. I was under the impression even if belts were fitted to side facing seats they don't have to be worn as it's up to the person sitting in the seat... I tell my passengers not to wear the belts unless they want a ruptured spline in the event of an accident
  5. There are easy ways to measure nose weight, either using a dedicated tool avaliable from caravan shops (though I don't think they go over 100kg), using a jockey wheel with built in nose weight calculator, or using some wood at the height of your towbar with the vehicle loaded and some bathroom scales that support the weight You could also buy your own weigh bridge... no really, like one of THESE. I don't know how well those 'Weight Controls' work but people in the caravanning world seem to rave about them and it'll weigh your nose weight too apparently!
  6. Could have been all your gear in the back, when I loaded up for a weekend away in Wales, with tent, sleeping bags, air bed, clothes, 20l of diesel, 20l of water, camping stove etc. all in plastic boxes the rear of my 90 TD5 sat lower than the front which it doesn't normally do... shows really why they put the HD springs on the 110 and why it sits higher unladen. I guess you could fit HD springs all round and the rears would be stiffer thus less sag with your gear in the back and the noseweight of the trailer
  7. Dixon Bate all the way... good quality type approved equipment that is made for the purpose!
  8. Most trailer hire places will hire 3.5ton vehicle trailers. You're better of with a 3.5tonner cause you know you're within the limits of the trailer. You cannot confirm exactly the weight of the vehicle you're picking up, so getting a lighter one could get you in trouble unless you know the exact weights. Generally a 3.5ton car trailer will see you good for 2.7ton of vehicle, but always check the chassis plate!
  9. I can again vouch for the wheel carrier, even on my 04 the weight of a big BFG AT tyre was causing the door to become difficult to open over time... I have one fitted, the door is nice and smooth and the carrier is great, glad I paid the extra for the mantec it is perfect unfortunately I don't have pictures of the 265/75 ATs fitted but they and bigger tyres fit fine!
  10. Hmmm difficult one Is the service history, owners etc good with both? The XS for an extra £500 has a lot more gadgets that you might appreciate, on the other hand you can save yourself £500 and get one with less miles and less things to go wrong... it really does depend on the vehicle! Look at them both, drive both, and see which you prefer! Bet I haven't helped one bit
  11. Unrelated to the Discovery, but when I use the MIL lamp test on the Defender it doesn't light... but does so when your turn the ignition on so I know where is nothing wrong with the lamp... Other than that v2 has been fine, but as I said this is on the Defender
  12. Always buy a Garmin, I use their Nuvi range for on road work and they are most definately the best for everything including customer service
  13. Cheers for that, looks like we shall have to look into it then
  14. I'm young too and people do look at my Land Rover and me when we go shopping etc. Again I love it when you get a boy racer with his car full of people, revving you at lights and you leave him in a cloud of black smoke and I when don't bother to beat them my driving lights are conveniently angled at their rear view mirror
  15. Yeah the Bearmach £20 seal is fine, but their alpine seals are over priced when I can get genuine ones for less. I'd rather order them all from the same place
  16. Cheers western for the part no's. A genuine LR windscreen seal is around the £70 mark, if it's going to perish like my current one has, I'd rather put in a £20 seal and replace it every 2 years rather than 4, hence why I was after an aftermarket place. Bearmach wanted £110 for the alpine seals and filler strips alone and they weren't sure if they had the right part no's. Am I right in thinking that 4mm glass was used in all Defenders Alpine Windows after 1988 or something? Think I'll just order then off Rimmer Bros or LRDirect.com... anyone had any problems with them? Cheers
  17. Have heard nothing but praise about First Four bumpers... so that's another vote from me Give them a ring, tell them what winch you've got and they'll tell you your options!
  18. I'll try and post some info up on it (even though there is some around) when I get it... although I'm sure the differences are just USB support and upgraded internal hardware to cope with heat better Don't know about you but I'm quite looking forward to having a play with it now
  19. Badger... VERY nice truck you have there I've got a few questions if you don't mind me asking... Where did you get your rock sliders from? Have you managed to seal up your Mantec Snorkle? and What size are you tyres? Cheers, all the best for your trips!
  20. Anyone got any idea (other than rimmerbros/bearmach) where I can get the mentioned seals from? Really struggling to find them and Bearmach want an arm and a leg for them. Rimmer Bros want £60 for the lot, non-genuine windscreen and genuine alpine seals but wanted to look around first.
  21. Saw one the other day with 2 stacks coming out of the pickup bed behind the cab - looked awesome with the smoke pluming out of it!
  22. UK delivery is £10 on top of the above price
  23. Was interested in attending one of the adventure drives advertised in the events section and wondered if anyone had done one. It's only £40 for the day, non damaging and could make a nice weekend out of it
