  1. I'll be doing the 'easy' course, even a bog standard freelander will get through it without a doubt as they have to cater for everyone. The more advanced route will be for those with some experience, decent recovery points, and more prepped vehicles, with underbody protection etc.
  2. Crikey! That looked like it had been submerged in runny mud or water for some length of time!
  3. Also the ECU needs a decent battery to start otherwise it won't open the injectors properly... hence why you may have trouble starting it. Take it back to whoever did the work and get them to check it - it should be warranted for 12months should it not?
  4. No, I don't think it's clutch slip as it happens when he's dipped the clutch... the engine revs by itself so to speak. Again, check the clutch switch. Anyone with a Nanocom will be able to tell you if its working properly
  5. Well said Another one is the damn wrench you get with the jack - no good on my alloys
  6. Yes, you certainly need to cover your backside... maybe selling them for off-road use only?
  7. You would back flush it through the block until it ran clear etc... sounds like you've done a good job anyway, the coolant left in will be effectively 'new' you just won't get it all out... unless you used high pressure air I guess!
  8. As far as the coolant goes it could be what was in the block etc. if you didn't do a full pressure flush
  9. By my measurements I think I can get 2 of THESE to fit... Although they will completely fill the box, because they are only 175 high the main obstacle will be overcome. Do you reckon they'd be ok, or not because they are not branded?
  10. I recommend MaxxRaxx too... use one on the Defender and they do different ones for the freelander etc. It's towbar mounted and very well designed
  11. As far as I'm aware simon only sells one type of battery... And Odyssyes are expensive compared to the Numax which you can pick up for around £60 a battery!
  12. Any pics FF or Ryan? Also what year was it out of interest as I know the battery boxes are different
  13. It does say on Si's site that you can fit 2 in a defender battery box I think, or at least one... I was going to buy two of these until I did some measuring and found they wouldn't fit. The only way I could see it working was to fit one across-ways (left door to right door) right at the front of the seat box, and one where the existing battery was in the 'lowered' part of the seat box. You should be able to achieve this with your standard and numax battery... I wasn't prepared to take the risk though so currently looking at other options
  14. It was both www. and forums. 'Server Not Avaliable' for around half an hour up til now... So I think the www. was just stored in your cache!
  15. I'm also in the process of fitting a dual battery system for camping purposes mainly. I saw this on the web and wanted to re-create it as it would be ideal, except with numax batteries. Apparently it's in a standard defender battery box, however I can't get the measurements to add up?
  16. Make sure you do your SWR'ing in a large open area, not sure of how your drive/house is layed out, but I can't pick up bugger all outside my house becase there are too many houses in close proximity. Drive away from the houses and I can pick people up miles away - SWR also improves, although only slightly. I get around 1.3 - 1.7 across channels and I'm happy with this, again with a PSM-1 mount and a small springer on a quick release.
  17. Everyone I've spoken to whos had it done can't recommend it highly enough - it won't get you up to 40mpg, but they've said that it does improve by 3-5mpg, maybe more if you have a remap/well tuned engine, depending on how you drive but that the biggest praise is the lack of noise compared to before... I think you drop from 2900 to 2200rpm in 5th doing 70mph which can only be good for the ears and the wallet (please check rpm's as I'm not 100% sure). I'm saving up put it that way did Ashcroft give you a price for a TF box?
  18. Thought I'd let you all know, I've read in a few posts that the family doesn't want there to be open discussions on the forums about the case etc. I'm sure a few kind words are fine though
  19. I didn't see a point keeping the Land Rover piping... to many seals to make that could fail if the worst came to the worst, and the possibility of water getting in through the dump valve - so one pipe from the 3" outlet straight to the air box would be great I wondered if the bottom piece of the old type metal snorkels would fit as this would provide the outlet into the engine bay, allbeit on a funny angle though!
  20. Funnily enough the camera car was a Defender...
  21. I don't get white smoke... but a few black puffs. If I then rev the engine to 1400ish I get plumes of blue smoke sometimes - and I've given up finding out what that is!
  22. No, I've added another Neoprene gasket that's a lot thicker than the original one too, and I still don't trust it. My aim was to fit a plate with a 3" pipe outlet on it, and silicone this to the snorkel opening. The snorkel can then be clipped and screwed to the wing, and the 3" outlet would stick through. This would then allow me to put 1 piece of pipe straight through to the air box
  23. Looking good, though you shouldn't have to modify it If you look now though it isn't in line with the windscreen frame - what you needed to do was slide the base of the snorkel towards the front wing as the position of the retaining clips allows for some sideways movement, this would then allow you to have the snorkel in line with the windscreen frame and it would sit nice and snug Just don't go wading in it well at least not until you've tried to seal it up
