  1. Sadly, you'll end up having to do what i did, fill thedrum with as much WD40 as you can and keep soaking in everywhere, I wire brushed everywhere I could to get rid of as much rust as i could to start with, then after 2 days of this a blow torch was employed, i also ended up using a BIG flate bladed screw driver on the lip at the back of the drum and a big hammer to drive it off. I rebuilt the entire hub anyway with new cylinders and shoes, and i dropped a new drum on at the same time.
  2. Hello Mark, Well I had to re-wire EVERY speaker, the previous owner had obviuosly had problems with the door amps so decided to by-pass them with a pair of alpine amps slotted behind the glove box! He'd chopped out almost every wire and left quite a few live wires which I'm surprised hadn't caused a fire! I have managed to get the amp working though, I belive it's the 2 orange wires and a grey activation wire.
  3. Well I picked up quite a nice P38 Auto 4.6HSE on low miles and a multipoint sequential lpg system and I have to say I love it. However, the previous owner decided to cut EVERY wire that connected the orginal stereo to the loom, I really need to know what wire does what as most of them are down right dangerous. Does anyone know what all the wires do? It does have a sub in the rear. I have removed the orignal cd changer and replaced it with a sony 10 disc changer and I have run the correct cabling to the front. If anyone could help that would be brilliant. PS the truck is sitting outside with a load of electrical spaghetti hanging out of where the dash used to be Thanks in advance Andi
  4. Hello one and all, I'm just in the process of purchasing my first P38, a 4.6 HSE Auto on a S plate, I've checked it over THOROUGHLY but I still expect things will crop up My main questions are: 1) It doesn't have satnav and I'd like to fit the factory accessory on, can this be done and if so are the parts easily available 2) Are side steps and bull bars easy to fit 3) Can someone recommend a gas converter locally to me in Notts or Derbyshire, I'd even buy a used unit and fit it myself or have a fitter do it for me. Can anyone recomend a good quality cheap kit? I have about £1000 to spend. 4) Does anyone have an accessories guide that was issued from LandRover as I'd like to spec up what I'll be getting with everything that was available at the time. And a couple of other questions. What can I expect mpg wise on a steady 30/40 mph run to work, about 20 miles, not much stop start Also what could i expect mpg wise at 60 on the motorway. I have used the search function but it's always nice to get peoples views that are up to date Regards Andi k
  5. Or for when the chassis rotted out it made it easy for 2 chaps to grab the front part of the chassi and 2 chaps to grab the handles on the rear - maybe landrover doing a little forward thinking?
  6. Surely copyright must come into this?
  7. You may get away with a mechanical diff locker, like a detroit or a truetrac. Personally I'd go for the rear locker due to the weight in the back and probably loaded in you truck aswell.
  8. Hello everyone. Can some help me locate what brake firrings I need, the male compression type - imperial fittings. I have the smaller type but not the larger one. I really, really need them now as I'm short of these ) Thanks in advance Andi Oh and it's a series 3 with the split braking system.
  9. Get the cutting discs out and the welder, chop the disco up and drop the engine into the series, along with move the crossmember forward and dropping the power steering into place. You could also convert the disco axles to mate up to the springs, les on her is in the process of doing it and I have a couple of mates who have done this, it makes a pleasany driving series, with period charm. Not to everyone's taste but that's what landrover ownership is all about, make it your own and have a go, if you drop a bollock, you can always grind off and start again or replace that part of the chassis.
  10. ^^ agreed, some seem to fetch alot more than you's expect whilst others appear to be difficult to give away let alone sell!
  11. Hello MM, most seem to perish and fall off eventully and don't seem to do much damage, although you 'should' probably fit it, the UJ should come with a small amount of grease however if like the defender ones, you will need to top this up.
  12. I watch those cat d's go through salvage auctions for half that price, it should make someone a great project. It's frightening how easy landrovers are to hot wire.
  13. Bum, looks like I'll be making my own then!
  14. I have to admit I've used a few companies now for parts as I have sadly rebuilt 4 trucks in the last 2 years, and I'm half way through a fifth! I live right next door to Paddocks (well not far away) and all I can say is Bob on the trade counter there is well worth his weight in gold, which isn't cheap Never had any real issuse with paddocks, just poor quality britpart carp and a bad batch wipac lights, all replaced free of charge and no proof needed as to the failed item, it's also nice to be met with a happy face even though they all do look a little stressed at times!
  15. Hello everyone, I'm just coming to the interior stage of my S3 rebuild, can anyone confirm if there is a headling available for a truck cab and also are there any door cards available for series trucks at all? Thanks in advance Andi
  16. Hello one and all, could anyone please help? I have the oppurtunity on a brake pedal assembly and brake servo from a lightweight, could you tell me if this will fit my standard truck? Thanks in advance Andi
  17. I'd say get yourself down the local Maccy D's with all the kids and start firing flames, they'll think "it's wikked that" and you should be able to sell it for a decent price and pick up another truck that runs fine Sorry couldn't help myself! It does sound like a timing fault, maybe not compltely burning the fuel, or moving timing etc.
  18. Thanks chaps, I'm at the stage now of bolting it together
  19. It could be legitamate, although it could be a nicked car with a vin plate and reg document from a scrapped vehicle.
  20. Hello one and all, anyone help please? I'll be installing a 200 tdi into my S3 truck cab project with the standard 4 speed box, is it worth fitting the 10 spline diffs from the donor disco? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Andi K
  21. Hello everyone, just a quick question, has anyone used any of the paddocks brush on paint? Just a quick question, could anyone estimate how much it would take to do a S3 swb tub (outside of), bulkhead, track cab back, bonnet, wings and grill, oh and doors? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also does it need a laquer coat?
