  1. I have to amit I still don't know what I'm doing with it
  2. Thanks fridge, I think I'm set on a 200di installation as I have a spare one in the garage that needs a rebuild
  3. Hello one and all. I'm just after a little advice really. I have 2 engines to decide between, both 2.25 litres, Can some one just help me with which would be most useable everyday, ie mpg, driveability etc. Also if it is the petrol is it work fitting a webber carb kit to it? Also, is it worth fitting a 2.5 petrol defender engine with twin carb webber? or the 2.5d or 2.5td, I am considering a 200 tdi but cost may be prohibitive as this is a cheap project. Thanks in advance Andi
  4. B*gger, that means I've bought yet another resto project with no id! Thanks for that chaps
  5. Hello one and all, I have picked up a rolling chassis and bulkhead, with engine and box. I have the vin but no reg number or paperwork. Can someone please help my decode if this vin goes with this vehicle. I have SALLBCMH2BA315*** (I've left the last 3 digits off) - I've bought it all with a load of series panels that I'm not sure go with it or not. I will contact the dvla when I get a chance but I thought someone on here may be able to shed some light on decoding the vin. Regards Andi
  6. Split it in 2, Back tub and bulkhead with the wings etc attached.
  7. plans are complete strip downs, repaint the red one, leave the blue one as is but t'cut and clean, repair, repaint chassis, new suspensions, new exhausts, rebuild both engines, new brakes on both, full fluid changes, new lights, new tyres, tarted up engines (cleaned and painted up) I'd like to think if I sort it out properly there would be no work to do for a long time, so I'd be hoping for £900-£1500 each for them
  8. Currently awaiting a call from the nice man at the DVLA, I'm tring to sort it from the engine number, but if that doesn't work I have a rolling chassis with engine and a V5 that just needs some body work, it has a bulkhead etc, so I can retaing the Reg from the rolling chassis, as all I'll be doing is restoring it and breaking the red one for the parts. I know what you mean about the Mot's, I only ever use a specialist for the mot's, all my volvos go back to volvo the mot etc, my landrovers go to hunters in Derby.
  9. Haha, I have a lwb safari that has been offered to me today, a barn fiend really (well laid up in a barn for a few years) It may end up in the for sale section after the swb's as it's not going anywhere so I have plenty of time to sort the swb's out and then sort the lwb
  10. Hello everyone, Well in my haste I've bought 2 series 3's. Both without MOT and needing some work, I'm not wanting to be stupid with the prices hat I will ask for them, but can someone help me put a ball park figure together so I don't look stupid with my pricing. I'm trying to save as many old landies from farms, whilst using the money made to save for my first mortgage 1st, a red pick up in reasonable condtion, 2.25 petrol, in bright red (fairly recent paint job), it will have 12 months test, I belive it's a 74, good chassis with new rear half chasis, plus FWH. Paint condition is quit good, it will recieve a full service a set of all Terrains, new lights and lenses, new shocks and bushes where needed. 2nd, is again a 74, solid chassis, van in blue, with rebuilt low mileage diesel engine and fairly overdrive and FWH, dog gaurd. It is light blue, with faded paintwork and a few dents, I won't be restoring the paint as I like the look of it and it seems to add to the character, again it will have new tyres, shocks, bushes, lights. A full service and a MOT. Thanks for any responses in advance Andi
  11. Hello one and all. Could anyone please advise me on painting my new truck. It's currently bright red. I'd like to paint it the dark green colour (is it Olive green?). My main question really is, if I sand down, key, the current paint, can I then paint straight onto the red? I will be cleaning the paint work thoroughly before hand etc. Or is it recomended I give it a quick dusting over with some red oxide spray? Next question is, where is the best place to get the paint from and can anyone recomened the best way to get a good finish? Sorry for all the questions but I like to be prepared for a new task Thanks Andi
  12. It'll be in bits in 2 weeks max, then the overdrive, rebuilt diesel engine and alloys will be going on and it should be ready to be useful by the end of the month.
  13. Oooooooo I have to admit I'm very interested, can you pm me with what you'd be looking for it please? Thanks Andi
  14. That's what I'm after, oh well I'd better keep my eye out then!
  15. Hello one and all. Well I've done it, I've bought a Series 3 truck can and also a Series 3 van, I'll be making the truck cab into the best motor I can, with the diesel engine from the van along with the overdrive and a few other little bits and bobs. My question is, are there any rear covers available for the back? Like the ivor williams style coves. Thanks in advance Andi K
  16. I wanted to do this too, but also found out it would cope with the loaded weight.
  17. Brilliant, thanks chaps. I may be down a scrappie near you very soon
  18. No it's just I've driven a few standard 300 tdi's with 265/75/16's on and they all seem to have a flat spot between 2-3 not major just noticible. Everything on the engine and the fuel system is new (at least once- rubbish britpart items have been replaced a couple of times) etc.
  19. Hello one and all, Well I'm ironing out the flat spots in my 300 tdi disco engined and gearbox and transfer boxed defender. I have a couple of flat spots between the gears and I'd like to fit a full width intercooler then get the truck rolling roaded to tweek the fuel pump and the turbo properly. However can anyone recomend anywhere to get a good intercooler and fitting kit from? Also, I know it's been covered many times but can you give me your experiences of the difference it's made in performance and fuel economy. Thanks Andi
  20. They do tend to snap at the top weld, you can weld them up before they snap, but you shouldn't really need to.
  21. You can cut the mounts off for the td5, and weld on the appropriate V8 hardware, but you will need to grind off the galv first. You can then get some cold galv and paint that on.
  22. yup, I have 87 and 87a, although I will be using them for the headlights and the full beams so I can upgrade the loom to run some heavier duty lights.
  23. Hello one and all. Well I'll be wiring up my 6 8" WIPAC spots and the 4 small rectangular ones, oh and the 2 rear reversing ones aswell They are wired as follows: Roof rack: 2 wired pairs of 8" Wipacs Light Bar: 2 wired pairs of rectangular flood lights A bar: 1 wired pair of 8" Wipacs. Now I have run heavy duty cable to each pair of lights to a relay, What I want to know is that if I use this ( http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchB...t&R=3080598 ) 5 pin relay, Do I wire it up as a standard 4 pin spot light relay and use the 5th pin like another power output, negating the need to use 2 four pin relays? I hope that makes sense Cheers Andi
  24. Hello filthy. I've heard of one or two people say the same as you mate about frogs. would try one last time to talk to Eddy, if you get no joy I would then look to open a small claims dispute with the company, if you can't speak to him, write an email and make sure you detail EVERYTHING, all costs involved etc and make sure this figure does not include a figure for the stress or the time wasted that this has incurred. At least if you do this you will have tried to resolve the issue properly, remember losing your rag and shouting will NOT get you anywhere, calm clear arguments and the ability to put your point across will do more good. Andi
