  1. A garage with a couple of heaters would help to dry it out.
  2. The Gurnsey registered 110 we bought a bit back was broken rather than registering it here. Have to pay import duty too.
  3. Devon 4x4 cones..... Cost about £50ish IIRC. Re-locate the springs ok, what more can I say?
  4. I used to use a laptop in the landrover but found it a bit big and cumbersome, although the big screen was nice. Tablet PC would be better, or a built in PC with LCD touch screen, but then we're talking a bit more money than a cheap old laptop.
  5. Oh and a little tip I've just thought of mentioning, if the voice directions aren't loud enough, and they won't be in a defender at motorway speeds, is to run the sound from the headphone socket on the PDA through an external CB speaker.
  6. It gets more extreme than that, try googling for it. Has no one invited Redmonsta over here yet?
  7. The problem with TT3 grabbing the serial port and not letting anything else use it can be 'cured' by going back to an earlier version of TT GPS, GPS2.07. It might also be sorted in later releases too, but as GPS2.07 works for me that'll do. Powered / integrated data cradles, ie the type where the PDA plugs into the cradle rather than being held in the cradle and having a cable plugged into the bottom, I would avoid. They should be fine on the road, but when bouncing about off road it puts a lot of stress through the PDA input connection and direct to the motherboard. I know of one IPAQ that died this way and had to be replaced. Mine as fitted to my old disco.....
  8. Greenway Macho's. Even BishBosh doesn't get stuck quite as often since he got a set. Same pattern as Fedima Extremes, and I've been very impressed with my Fedimas both on and off road. I would recommend Fedimas but the Greenways are £20 a corner cheaper.
  9. I shan't answer that in case it jepodises any chance you have of finding a biatch
  10. A Biatch Once was enough for me Actually I could be tempted if it wasn't for the fact the Tony would be upset and not having many marshals left and the missus would be upset cos I'd be leaving her to her own devices
  11. there's been plenty about this written at teh old place, will be worth a look as it's still relevant, and there's plenty of supplier links too. I use MM and TT. You could use MM for winch challenges but due to the scale it works best on big sites like 7S rather than the likes of Slindon. Would be better if it's on the 1:25k maps, but they have limited coverage. To make lanes you just put them in was waypoint and they can be set to display on the map screen. PDA?? I was looking at Dell Axims (like Chris's) or IPAQ's, got a 2210 in the end. Not up to speed on the current models. But I'd be looking for SD and CF slots, bluetooth, wireless (which mine doesn't have so I bought a CF card). Sound quality isn't bad through headphones for listening to MP3's. I'm pretty sure you can get Acrobat Reader for PPC, a quick google should turn up that answer. GPS wise I use an eTrex cos that's what i already had. I like the set up cos you can have the GPS features as well as the PDA features, for instance GPS usually shows speed, trip dist and location on screen and is used for recording the track log as i found it more reliable than doing it on the PDA. If you get a duel card slot PDA you have the option of using a CF/SD GPS, this means you have a neat self contained unit. Bluetooth GPS is worth considering IMHO, due to lack of wires. I am tempted to get a bluetooth GPS reciever at some point when they are cheap enough, maybe ask father christmas for one this year or sommat. All comes down to what else you might want to use the GPS or PDA for other than 'in car' use and whether or not you already have a GPS reciever. But remember if connecting to say an etex then you are looking at around £30-40 for a combined data/power cable - you can get some which supply power to both PDA and GPS. As for mounts, I'd now not buy anything but RAM mounts. Nice modular system so you can buy the appropriate cradle(s) and then however many base plates you want for different vehicles, or handlebar clamps for biking etc. Very well made kit and hold my PDA rock steady, unlike the Garmin eTrex mount, think I'll upgrade that to a RAM mount at some point. Think that'll do for now.
  12. Might have to wing it then. Was hoping I could make sure I ordered the right one with out the need to use adapters, it's just one more joint to leak. I had a Racetech one that fitted fine with no adaptors but I let it go on Alf, bugger.
  13. I think I'll be putting 14" ES9000's on the back of my 90. Cheap and chearful and was happy with +2 ones on Alf
  14. Ex-Tec(sp??) do something similar to that frame slider/skid plate. Protecting against the trailing arm mounts getting hooked up is worth while. Some of the safari race boys cut the mounts of and stick them on the opposite way round (especially if converting to radius srms on the rear) to stop them being ripped off. Does limit the articulation a bit though, which isn't really an issue in racing
  15. Let me know if it works and I'll tell you which shocks to use, if it doesn't I won't bother
  16. There was some discussion at the old place (defender forum IIRC) about fitting a 1.2 box to a 110. I think it all comes down to what you want from the vehicle, acceleration and towing ability or nice 'relaxed' cruising. Some people like it some don't. Also helps if you have a tweek or two.
  17. I reckon that now the 'rabble' have gone LRE will keep the forum running
  18. Anyone know what it is? I wanna oder a new capillary guage for but can't seem to find what the thread is, tried searching the old place with no luck.
  19. eeerrrr not what they told me in the factory , same block on both of them. Made my self look an idiot when asked them how they knew which was which block only to be looked at strangley and told they are the same but the stoke is differant 3.5's have a bore of 88.9mm and 3.9's have a bore of 94mm, both have a stroke of 71.1mm, the 4.2 is 94mm bore and 77mm stroke and the 4.6 is 94mm by 82mm. The only 'factory' V8 to use a long stroke crank in a small bore block was the Aus 4.4 I guess the bloke at the factory didn't know what he was talking about See here for all the info.
  20. Or hammer an impact socket on and undo it. That's basically what the removal tools I've seen are.
  21. Except a 3.9 is a bored out 3.5 (might have a longer stroke too, can't remember for sure but don't think it has) 4.2, 4.6 etc are stroked 3.9's
  22. Not sure they would be allowed in all RTV's. Best check with the club you intend to trial with. What about the Macho's? They are a very good tyre off road and yet still handle suprisingly well on the road. I know you say it's not an issue but a bit less scary handling is always nice whne on your way to and from events in the rain.
  23. Actually we used Rob's 8274
  24. Would do mate, but taking it easy marshalling, missus tagging along and all that, sorry mate you'll have to find some other mug, I mean willing volunteer
  25. Do we really want the contstraints and politics of a magazine forum, again
