  1. You will need some of these... bolts and some of these: Square nuts as normal nuts don't self-secure in the casing. I think the nearest metric size is M12...
  2. Rick... Following on from the snippet that Dave W has provided, it's well worth making the 'important components' visible. Scrutineers will not take your word that there is a one-way valve is fitted - they will want to see it... I will PM you re the cage... Adrian
  3. Just to throw another one into the mix... I have run my EP9 as a front and centre winch. It has never let me down and barring a couple of cleaning and regreasing sessions, it has needed no maintenance whatsoever. My TDS (previously on the front and now on the rear) has burnt out a motor and suffers from rope slip due to the grub screw being useless. I have very little confidence in it at the moment! So much so, that I am seriously considering putting the EP9 in it's place in the short term and modding the crossmember to accept an 8274 in the longer term. The 8274 on the front was standard (apart from the mainshaft and a +3" drum) last year and served us well. Now has twin-motor and Delta-Tek air freespool and still owes me significantly less than a standard 8274 would cost to buy new. Bargains are out there... Just last week, an 8274 on ebay finished without any bids starting at 99p, so it's just a case of watching and waiting... Start saving now and by the time the next season of competing starts, you will have found one.
  4. My CVs are back from Ashcrofts.........just need to find a couple of hours to put them back in and build the axle up around them. Other than that, it's not been touched since the last round (bar a bit of drying out!!!) so nothing else can have possibly gone wrong..........!!
  5. Speaking of Kelly fixing stuff..... Have you removed the injectors yet to feed the fish???
  6. I know!! It's just one of those things!! There are plenty more if you scrutinise the regs!!!
  7. It'll have to be an enclosed box I expect, Rick. It's not just from a leak point of view, but to protect you from an explosion, too. You'll definitely need to protect the terminals, whether it's in a box or not, though...
  8. Try Academy Insurance... Frank Pickles are good, but I believe they only do modified motors... Plenty of threads about with further lists...
  9. Yet another cracking event laid out in what is coming to be the customary deceptive fashion - thanks Mr Bass, et all! Well done all involved and thanks to all the marshalls etc for helping the day run smoothly. We got our first Class win so were dead chuffed and the truck came out with minor scrapes - a little damp, but at least it went on the trailer nice and clean!! Just the front axle to strip down and rebuild again!! Only got it back together again last weekend!! I'm guessing that there are loads of pictures about, so post-em up when you can!
  10. I too have both the small and medium Halfords ones. Excellent value for money and very accurate. Tested both of them against a Snap-On 3/8" drive digital jobbie and the differences were negligable (sp?)...
  11. Yes pleace Lucy. Mark and I will partake in a burger......or more if you twist our arms...!! Have you managed to rustle up a BBQ yet?? I'm sure we can throw something together if not...
  12. That makes us sound a bit 'mafia'..... Of course James knows us, but the first rule of fight club..... Amen!!
  13. There is always self-defence..........at least, that's what I keep telling myself!!
  14. From memory, the UCR is doable in anything. It's pretty much the same as the entrance to Ringwood and is definitely better than the way into Slindon. As for the site access, I think it may be a little interesting. Maybe have a chat with Neil as I believe using the road to access the site is a big no-no!!
  15. She has been known to sting if provoked, but only in EXTREME circumstances......
  16. Even though the rope has been saoked and 'cleaned' I still wouldn't risk the wrath of 'er indoors by doing it in front of the telly!! Old laptop in the garage would be the best I could do...... Or perhaps outside the patio doors looking in!! Will see how it fares on Sunday, then....
  17. You going all 'eXtreme' for this round Barry?? New set of 205 ATs to lay down some tracks....!!
  18. Ok. I followed the instructions that came with my splicing kit. Pretty much the same, except it recommended 2-3 passes through each long tail with each short tail (if that makes sense...) Looks like I've got the same end result, though... The rope is maybe 18months old, so I wouldn't class it as past it. The cut is an obvious 'cut' if you know what I mean, rather than general wear and tear. Ta muchly.
  19. I had the wonderful experience of running the rear winch rope off to find a lovely cut/slice about half way along it. It practically leaves it as useless apart from making 2 extension ropes out of it. So out came the splicing kit and the instructions for butt splicing. I've had no issues with any splice that I have ever made for a hook, but I am a little dubious of butt splicing... I have since swapped the rope (11mm) onto the centre winch as the most it will do is take the weight of the truck, but I'm wondering (as I now only have a 10mm rope on the rear winch) if it will stand up to the use that a rear winch is put to in a challenge environment... so, short, tight angle pulls, lowering into/out of things. I am fairly sure, but not sure enough to go ahead and try it... Have any others tried and succeeded with butt splices, or am I best to leave it and buy a new rope?? TIA Adrian
  20. Just the rear winch to sort and we'll be ready to load up!! Electrical gremlins.....don't you just love em!!!
  21. Where is it.............this could definitely be worth a watch!!!!!!!!
  22. My last dealings with them were a couple of months ago, but I have no reason to believe they have stopped trading. After all the effort Mark has put into getting it up and running, I hope they haven't gone under... I will try to raise a response and come back to you with the result.
  23. If you've taken the pulley off and have it on the bench, find yourself a piece of 5mm flat plate and make your own tool with the correct bolt pattern and a handle long enough to tuck on the chassis rail.... That's how I do it... The only problem is finding the right bolts to attach it with made out of anything other than chocolate!
  24. Cool. Cheers Ben. Anyone else got any pictures?? There were quite a few cameras out and about so I know they are somewhere...
