  1. They were in a Zuk, though Chris. They just picked it up and carried it to the punches!!! I'm sure you'll still manage to have a list of things to do on the day of the event!! You wouldn't want to ruin your rep now, would you...
  2. Mo - The other option is to use locknuts. You know the ever-so-slightly oval type... To be honest, I never had any issues with the ones I had on my RRC. I ran Vogue 3-spoke alloys, Disco steel and Modular rims at different times. Only ever did them up with the same torque as the wheen nuts. I got rid of them for 2 reasons, one was that the competition regs started to frown on them, the other was that I went to wider tyres, so they stuck out of the arches a little too much for comfort (MoT) and cleanliness...
  3. The figure in the Haynes Manual is 15Nm and I have always worked to that without any issues. You can stop the 'walking' of the belt off of the crank gear by buying one of the later type that has a retainer ring around the outside... I have done mine and 2 others using this method and no complaints so far...
  4. They are definitely a different shape, so you have to cut the lower trim. Have a look here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=59037 It'll give you some idea of a before and after...
  5. You should be pleased. That looks cracking. Maybe you should buy a few more sets and mod them for people........
  6. Or, perhaps a second cable routed down the N/S chassis leg to pull it back into the engaged position...
  7. Any chance of some of that video you were taking, Ben?? I'd quite like to see the bit of us doing the 'easy punches' in the outback and waving wheels in the air...
  8. So........ How was it for everyone else. Seemed to be the best turnout of competitiors and pretty good support on the spectator side of things, too. We had a cracking day. A great selection of punches and the site was the driest I've ever seen it, so it was all accessible for a change! Apart from the front locker and the rear winch not playing their respective games, it all went swimmingly well and we came out with just a couple of extra dents... Big thanks to the organising team... Paul and Lucy of course, but all the others behind the scenes as well. Also thanks to all the marshalls for their efforts. I don't think I need mention the Scrutineers!!!!!! Lets see some pictures then!!
  9. Well it doesn't show your face, so that's definitely a plus......
  10. Will be good to see you out and about again Si and definitely good to have a look round the toy. It was still on the overhead hoist in the garage last time I saw it in the flesh!!
  11. Something's up with your team numbers Lucy... Otherwise, it looks like a good turnout!
  12. Have you seen Mr Wightman's offering in the FS section...??
  13. I have been wondering the same, but for the TD5 Discovery, so will watch with interest...
  14. Because then the spare rope gets all tangled up when the winch over-runs and you end up with a birds nest inside your winch tray....
  15. I have a Brunel one and I also know that Twisted Performance do an option... In fact, there is one in the For Sale section at the moment: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=58360
  16. As the others have said, thanks to the organisers, marshalls etc for putting on another cracking event. Lots of very good technical punches and some that were very deceiving. Those that went in the mud (like us) will probably be regretting it for a few weeks to come as it appears to be incredibly sticky and difficult to jetwash off!! Not entirely sure what it consisted of, but it stank!! Already looking forward to Slindon!!
  17. It's probably one of the requirements of the Insurance that James has. I'll let him confirm it, though.
  18. Taken from the 4x4 Adventures rules and regs... "A roll bar must be fitted to all soft top vehicles. Even if the event takes place wholly on private land, Vehicle Tax, MOT and insurance are required. In the event of public roads being used to link sites then it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that all road regulations are complied with." For those who can't follow a link  For a bit of practice... TRY THIS ONE These are the rules and regs that James has confirmed in Post 6 of THIS TOPIC that has previously been linked to above. I don't mean to come across rude, but I think I probably have!!! Oh well!!
  19. We are definitely interested... Any clues as to who our team mates might be??
  20. Well.... After stripping the motor gears in the front winch, spending over an hour rebuilding it and then suffering with a very slow rear winch, we still managed to have an absolutely cracking day and managed 2nd in class - which we were stunned by!! Normally, if we have a good day, then others are having better ones!! I highly recommend getting to Coney Green Farm if you have never been there. Yes it's a bit steep, but blimey there's some grip under the loose stuff!! Thanks to the marshalls and Paul & Lucy for a cracking event and especially for the BBQ on Saturday night. It was good to have a chance to chat and mickey take before the event. And, as ever, thanks to Paul's spares boxes for providing the necessary winch spares to get us back competing again. I know Charlie Thorn was there taking loads of pictures and there were a load of spectators, so there must be a whole host of pictures to be posted up... Cheers Adrian.
  21. I run mine at 28 (front) and 32 (rear). Current tyres are 38000 miles old and have no signs of uneven wear.... I pump the rears up to 40 if it's got a load of weight in, or I'm towing heavy stuff.
  22. A couple of points... The turning circle can be decreased by adjusting the steering locks... Sounds silly to point it out, but it will make a huge improvement. The factory settings on the 110 are ridiculous and as long as the tyres don't rub the radius arms, you are in the clear... I don't know what 'the book' states the turning cicle as, but you can take a large percentage off with 10 minutes and 2 19mm spanners!! (don't forget the copper grease too!!) The second point is that the TD5 Defender towbar fits the TDCi/Puma Defenders. The only difference is that a couple of the bolts into the underside of the crossmember are smaller on the TDCi/Puma. I managed to pick up a very shiney TD5 towbar complete with ball, nuts and bolts (everything needed to fit it) for £65 at Sodbury. It even still had it's part number stickers on it. The electrics are about £60 from LR (or thereabouts) and are fairly straight forward to fit with a socket up under the inner rear wheelarch, so a self-install could be much cheaper!! However, WRT the towbar - If you want peace-of-mind and a definite knowledge that it's right for the vehicle/what you are doing with it, spec it with one on it. You might even be able to haggle one into the deal!!
