  1. Nice one Les, only thing I would add is that it's not always situated on the bulkhead in the engine bay, mine is on the outrigger just in front of the fuel tank Richard
  2. 6ft-ish but I can jump if necessary Do you or Adrian need any details from me? Rich
  3. Cheers guys, I think I've got my head around it now - the main problem is that the diagram I have (same as James's second one) is apparently nothing like the actual parts! Which side is the reservoir supposed to go? Has anyone got any pictures of any PAS setup they can mail to me - anything is useful as I haven't had a good look at any before. Cheers, Richard PS. Has anyone got a bracket to hold the reservoir on the wing going spare?
  4. No worries, James do you know if anyone else is looking for a biatch? If not I'll come along and take some photos anyway. Rich
  5. Matt, that picture looks a bit small but I think the two bits top left are the inlet/outlet? The diagram I have shows three pipes (wish I could get a picture on here but can't at the mo!) 1) short one goes from the reservoir to the box on the connection on top nearest the rear of the vehicle 2) long one goes from the reservoir (thick pipe) through some metal tube and then to a banjo end piece 3) long one goes from the pump (male screw in fitting) then a flexy bit of pipe and then a metal tube that ends in another screw in male fitting which seems to go to the box through a hole on top near the front of the vehicle Does this seem right? I bought a no. 2) but it actually has a screw fitting one end and a banjo the other end! I guess this must just be the wrong bit? Cheers, Rich
  6. Cool, my main worry is that the pipe I got today is not the same as the one in the diagram that was from Microcat I think. Any diagrams from parts books etc. would be useful as I can work out what it should look like! With that info I should be able to pop into Exeter 4x4 again and get the right pipe. Rich
  7. Yeah will do Tim, Jonathan found two joints in the garage for your 3 link that were supposed to make their way to you as well so I'll bring them too. Richard
  8. Cheers Matt thats really useful. The pump has a banjo fitting (as that was left on the vehicle we took the pump from) and an outlet on the side. The box is a 4 bolt one but I'm not sure whether there's one fitting on top or two? One seems to have an allen type fitting in it, on top of the circular part. The other is definately for a pipe. Rich
  9. Richard, I'm now fairly sure I'll be free then and I'm willing to fill the passenger seat if you haven't found anyone yet Rich
  10. I'm getting ready to fit power steering to the 90 but looking at the stuff I've got I'm getting confused! I've got: - pump, bracket and double pulley from a 2.5 petrol - steering box from a discovery TDi I think - pipes from a disco or V8 RR Can anyone with a 2.5 petrol with PAS post a picture of what the pipes look like? Has anyone got any diagrams for Defenders, Discos, RR's etc. so I can work out what pipes are interchangeable? Can anyone explain simply how the fluid flows? Is it reservoir -> pump (via banjo bolt fitting) -> box (which hole?) -> reservoir? I've just bought (although can return it if its not used) a NRC5001 which from a diagram I've got should be a 2.5 petrol/diesel pipe from the reservoir to the pump (banjo end piece), but actually has the screw in fitting that looks like it goes in the box rather than an open pipe on one end? Absolutely any pictures are useful! If you can't post them, email to richardwatson @at@ dsl.pipex.com Thanks, Richard
  11. If Dan needs a biatch I'm in Don't mind setting out the punches if he's already got someone, but I'd prefer co-driving as I haven't set anything out before. Richard
  12. I used the waxoyl spray kit and thought it worked really well. I thinned it down a bit with white spirit and stuck the tin in a bucket of hot water and had no problems with it clogging up. Richard
  13. Yep I'm still up for biatching if I'm needed Richard
  14. I went in my car about a month ago to the Alps, we found the cheapest ferries were Norfolkline going Dover-Dunkirk. Petrol is about the same price as here now, diesel a bit cheaper - probably about 80p/litre. We had breakdown cover with Directline and when we lost half the gears on a fiesta they came out quickly on a sunday afternoon, but having had a fiddle underneath the guy just spent the next 5 minutes trying to translate "adventure" in French and told us to go on our way. To be fair we made it back home but it was a bit worrying when they lost all the gears to the back of the gearstick and then lost power so couldn't go over 70mph. You're probably not worried about speeding in a Land Rover but I think if you're caught doing over 50kph over the limit they take your licence away on the spot now. I think my car got flashed by two cameras on the autoroutes this year doing 90-100mph (not whilst I was driving though!) but I haven't heard anything about those. Set 3 off last year and never heard anything of those either. Actually on reading that, none of it's what you asked but it might be useful anyway. Richard
  15. Well done guys, fantastic achievement. Hope you're got some good pictures to post from along the way! Richard
  16. True but I don't know of any breakers around here!
  17. Cheers guys, looks like I need a MWC6130 then. The main seal can wait until everything else is fixed! Richard
  18. Has anyone got Peugeot part numbers for these and managed to get them from a motor factors/dealer? If they're not too dear it'll save me having to find a scrapyard with a 405 in it. Is it just one piece or do you have to get clips as well to hold them to the wiper arm? Richard
  19. I've got a NATO hitch on the back - easy to put a rope onto or winch hook if you stick a master ring in it, strong with spreader plates both sides and it doesn't hang down below the crossmember. Only disadvantages are if you want to fit a rear winch and have the fairlead where the hitch is, or have tyres larger than 33" on a wheelcarrier as they probably won't fit, even with it rotated sideways. Richard
  20. I'll volunteer as a co-driver for anyone that needs one Richard
  21. I use an XDAII with a bluetooth GPS unit and it's brilliant. No problem with the bluetooth connecting and the GPS (Holux GPSlim 236 from ebay HK) gets far better signal than my Etrex does, even under tree cover. Advantages of the seperate unit is that it can be stuck anywhere so can be placed to get the best signal - in the 90 I attach it to the top of the ashtray with a bit of elastic, in the car most of the time I just chuck it on the passenger seat. Disadvantages is that you have two things to power, although the GPS battery lasts about 12 hours on a full charge and it's two things to move between vehicles. I also found that the GPS would not charge from the car adaptor when it gets very hot. Sat on the dash going through France it was too hot to touch so I'm not too surprised, I ended up hanging it over one of the cool air vents to get it to charge and it's been fine since. Rich
  22. Does anyone know the part number for the lower door seal rubber on a 90 front door? Need them both sides if they're cheap. Seems to have a metal part that rivets to the floor if that helps describe it. Also could do with the part numbers for the rest of the side door seals as they're looking a bit perished too. Cheers, Richard
  23. My rear BFG Muds (newer KM type) are on 43000 and still have a fair bit left in them. Obviously not as good off road as when new, but enough. Fronts are on 8000 or so I think as one was wrecked and the other has been relegated to spare. Might have a measure up sometime. Richard
