  1. Les, I bought some 5l tins of jizer and it works well - the same cant be said about the pump on my machinemart parts washer though! Jerry
  2. re 'The Sun' - Yes it was LROI Me suspects it's probably some nanny state rulings that have made it less attractive to him to run it - e.g. 1) Told to employ proffesional traffic management or be held liable for any accidents as a result (similar thing happened a few years back at the Fairford International Air Tattoo) 2) Environmental issues about oil/bits of metal or other things left behind when we have all gone 3) Police intervention about the risk of stolen items being sold 4) Risk of death to all the inhabitants that live so close to the second busiest motorway in the UK due to excessive density of 4x4's in such a small area 5) Unlicensed group of scruffy looking people (think party/RAVE) - and the inability of the Police to issue that many ASBO's in a single day 6) Reluctance on his part to pay the tax for having so many happy people in one place at a single time.
  3. its weird, a few weeks ago I heard that there were going to be a rival sortout run every 3 months or so - but dismissed it! On the 'Sun' of the land rover forums there is a link to this website:- www.sortout.com
  4. yep, definately had the 2008 events on the web a week or so ago...
  5. At last, a modification to catch all that oil dropping from the transfer box and gearbox. How did you fix it - rope or welded bracket to the chassis ? I like the fact that its shock resistant when off roading ...
  6. I stand corrected then !! I just thought I remembered reading some time ago that they 'backed their car insurance business off' - and kept everything else in house... Apologies for misleading comment!
  7. im amazed firebond said they were closing down - they have been bought by AON about 2-3 months ago! youve got all the ones i have spoken to (if you add nfu - which is selling Norwich Union products IIRC) in the past. Might be worth trying firebond again - as they were always the cheapest for me - you may find you had a disgruntled employee who was made redundant this morning ! - Might be worth asking if they have an alternative number for you to call - afterall - I am sure somebody will be writing to all existing policyholders at renewals time - so why wouldnt they want new business !! Just did a search on the web and found this:- its from 2006 but may be worth anther call: "Highway Insurance are specialist Land Rover insurers, but you will have to ring a broker who knows about them. I went through SureTerm direct, a few others on this forum have gone through other brokers and we've all ended up with the same policy. £138 plus brokerage fees, recovery etc. Fully Comprehensive insurance, 6000 mile limit, full cover for greenlaning, shows, exhibitions etc, and this is on a modified 90 with Range Rover running gear" highwayinsurance
  8. Based upon the recent post for water ingress on a defender - specifically the first or second paragraph where is states it is assumed the technician is competent enough to know the door case needs to come off before sealing the door frame ... one wonders what a qualified person looks like. I wonder if you can demonstrate you have done much successful work without problem, or indeed have an engineering apprenticeship etc etc then their arguement would hold water (excuse the pun) Regardless, speak to CAB - get your facts and find out your rights - then call this imaginary company.
  9. One couple wanted a helicopter because they were late for a dinner party. oh PLLLEEASE I do wonder about some people, ' im late for dinner, - sod the poor people who put their lives at risk to come out', or the fact that somebody somewhere will be really suffering because they have to wait because i called the service out as my ankles hurt ....
  10. if you really cant make up your mind - you could do a groovy austin powers red white and blue job - thus elimating the need to worry about white door jams like the 'shaguar' below: (maybe you could call it the shagover) or i too would stick with white - its all the underbonet areas that show youve changed the colour unless your going to take all the panels off
  11. in all seriousness (and not wanting to re-ignite the fire), but if they are available I would like to get one.
  12. Sorry - no - its one of those 'too good to refuse 'offers to buy' I had which has been gathering dust whilst waiting for my vapour build', if i was to sell it my vapour would just turn to condensation and cause me a mildew problem
  13. HMM - Your right - instant death would be much better - me thinks a few KV through the steering wheel would ensure no innocent parties are injured in the making of this alarm system + they woudlant have chance to inflict any damage to the car either.
  14. I have a brand new defender bulkhead in my garage - so if you need some measurements I can do that for you....
  15. blimey -- unreasonable demands and we havent even dated - sounds like what I've already got at home - ill put up with the dirty house
  16. Crikey Les, your engine is cleaner than my house !! - If I divorce the missus will you marry me become my cleaner ps - can you cook as well
  17. I think we need Simon to come up with a variation of these for unattended cars !!! Extreme Alarms
  18. I woudl have thought if you had legal protection you could have made a claim against him as an individual, might be worth checking with your insurance company - but that would probably result in 2 parts of zilch - (get ready for some big broad brush strokes here) as you typically find the scum who do this havent got a proverbial pot to p*** in - so whilst you may get an award - he will probably have little or no assets and cash - so you will spend more money to get nothing The other option is to find out when he's released and call the boys in when he gets out - doesnt fix the monetary side of things, but does warm the cockles of ones heart on a cold wintery night
  19. If its a mould off of one like in the picture, then yes I would appreciate it - I could use it to make a fibreglass version !! perhaps you could PM me if you find it thanks
  20. ive bought a few things from them before mainly good, but one gearbox i bought - which was 'presented' as if it had been reconditioned had bits missing inside it !
  21. I saw those - but they look like brand new (at least price wise !), im not too worried about the box - im really only after the front facia bit - hence the post !
  22. ah - thats not what i wanted to hear ! - I was told by a friend who has just bought one that the RM dispose of damaged ones - as long as they are not architecturally significant (ie GR, VR etc.) But I regretably defer to your expertise - not sure where he got his from
