  1. Hi, Out of curiosity, which overdrive would fit an LT77 gearbox - A series one maybe? Or are there others? Thanks Steve
  2. Hi, Yes, I used them for getting an alternator (65amp) for my 90. Good prices and delivery was cheap, is was next day as well. Handy for me needing it quick!! You can't view them on the site, you have to fill in a free quote form and they will gett back to you asap. Hope this helps - (sorry its a bit late, but only just sore the post!!) Steve
  3. Hi, I've also been looking into the whole rear cross member scene. I've read the article on how to fit a cross member with extensions, the one you are strengthening here has no extensions. Is this type easier of harder to fit as apose to one with extensions on. Thanks Steve
  4. I should be going this weekend. I haven't been before, hoping to get a few bits and pieces. Is it a large event? Steve
  5. Hi, I should hopefully be going. I've heard that the sand knackers your brakes/discs - is this true or is ok after a wash down? Is the entrance well sign posted or is it like hogmoor where its a gap in the fence! Steve
  6. Oh, sorry about that Gromit, I thought it was luke's article. There's this kit and one other I think but I think it for the wrong type i.e. connectors/amps. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lucas-A127-Alternato...1QQcmdZViewItem Do you know of any other places that do kits?
  7. I was think the exact same thing, because I've seen the kits on ebay for, as you said £15, so with the the help of Lukes tech article I think I'll have a go. Looking at the old one, one of the brushes had got stuck inside the regulator and the bush that the brushes rotate on is a bit chewed/warn. So I think I have ago at reconditioning it for a spare! Steve
  8. I now have the neccessary gasket and so I thought I'll have a go at changing the gasket arrowed in the picture below. By dissconnecting the transfer box linkages and reverse light cable and removing the four bolts that secure it to the main gearbox I could then take the hole assembly off in one go. I gave the gearbox a bit of a clean as well as the remote housing and fitted a new gasket. Only time will tell if it has cured the leak. I'll have to see what happens tomorrow! Steve
  9. Yes I did thorough check on wednesday night and all the wires that should be connected were and I could pick up voltage fron the alternator as well as grounding the ignition bulb to light up. So I went ahead an oredered an alternator from this place: http://www.alternatormart.co.uk/ I ordered in at 3:30 and it came at about 10am the next day, excellant service! I had a scout through the previous posts about alternators and someone (can't remember who) recommended them so I thought I would go ahead and order one. Got it fitted today and it works fine, battery voltage rises when you start the engine and falls again when you stop - excellant. The only problem I had was that I had to rotate the front casting around one bolt hole so that the tensioner arm would fit - I had fun getting the brushes back on, but luckily I heard of the 'paper clip' trick on the forum - thanks Luke!
  10. Hi, I thought those tyres were still available on the web at these places: http://www.sowdentyres.co.uk/greenway-tyres.html http://www.tyresdirectuk.co.uk/xcart/custo...home.php?cat=14 http://www.tyremonkey.co.uk/tyres/4x4-tyre...yres/index.html but I haven't tried buying from them, so I could be wrong! I'm interested in getting a set of macho style tyres, What are they like off road and whats the tyre noise like on road? Steve
  11. Hi, I guess the Tulley's Farm Autojumble is still on for tomorrow. What time does it start? Steve
  12. Are 265/75R16 able to fit on standard white land rover rims which are (I guess) 7.5 inches wide. Sorry to hi-jack the thread!
  13. Yes the brown and yellow wire is the one I'm missing, I'll have a good look tonight for that. Does that wire come from the same direction as the other two or is it feed a different way?
  14. Just had a search on the internet and it looks as if I have a Magnetti Marelli alternator. Found a few pics here: http://www.fag.hiof.no/~frodehaa/alternator.htm The back of it looks excactly the same as this.
  15. Hi, In the tech section under 'A127 Alternator regulator replacement, By Luke' which i guess is you, there's a pic of said alternator and I think mine does look like that. In the first pic of the alternator there's a white cable going to it - does it normally come from that direction because i don't think I have that cable and I may need to have a search under the bonnet for it, I guess that one is for the ign light. At the monent I only have two wires connected to it and the haynes manual says three, so I think that may be my problem.
  16. Yesterday afternoon and today I've been needing to jump start my defender because the alternator isn't charging I don't think. I did notice in the past few days that the speed of the starter turning the engine over has decreased ever so slightly until yesterday when it didn't have enough to start it. - The belt is tight. - The two wires on the back that are fixed with a nut are both secure - are there any other connections? The ignition light doesn't come on when I start the engine and does not come on when the engine is running and I will investigate this later. I took it to Halford for them to check the alternator with a bit of fancy Bosch kit and it said 'ripple too small', any ideas? I've heard that you can replace the brushes and rectifier, is this a worth while option? Any help much appreciated (i.e. the best price for a new one), and yes I did have a look at the many other alternator threads before posting another!! Steve
  17. I gather I will need to take the tunnel out and even the access panel under the centre seat, but thats easy to do. I've added another picture to clarify. No: 11 in the diagram is the gasket I plan to change. Can all of the parts that sit in the tray (No: 10) stay in there when you take it off. Are ther any fiddly linkages that need disconnecting between the gearbox and tray above (No: 10) or does the shaft sit in a groove. Sorry to be a pain, it seems that it's all getting a bit confusing!
  18. Thanks for the reply. No, its at the top of the gearbox above the 5th gear end. I've arrowed the gasket I'm planning on changing in the image below. Hope this helps! Oil seems to be leaking around this area, so I'll have a go at changing it. Can you take the whole unit off or would you need to to take it off in sections? I know that you would need to disconnect the transfer box linkages, but I am unsure after that. Steve
  19. My gearbox is still leaking! I am thinking of changing the remote houseing gasket (the bit that the g-box and t-box levers sit in). As it seems to be leaking around the top of the gearbox. I know I will have to disconnect the transfer box linkages to take it off, but what else would I need to take apart/remove. How is the gear lever linkage shaft connected to the main gearbox linkages. Is it possible to take the whole assembly off in one go? Any advice greatly received. P.S. I've checked the breathe hose and it is not blocked. If this doesn't work I will have to think about taking it to a garage/specialist to change the gasket that joins the main gearbox halves together.
  20. As it was the first Land Rover show I've been to it was excellant. So many Land Rover to look at. Huey MadMatt's 130 (like your log splitter attachment) Devon 4x4 110 trayback All the Shire Land Rovers Range Rover convertable Only naming a few and that was just at the show, there were loads more in the camp site and in the car park! The museum was good as well, a few interesting concept cars. An a series 2 prototype which look as if they had just recieved - it was in a terrible state - but looked good.
  21. Found out that this clashes with my trip to the Nurburgring 24h race, so I can't go But I should be free for the next one which is at Slab common, I think. Have fun, I look forward on seeing all the photos!
  22. Looks like the weather could be good for the weekend, dry on the saturday at least. But I think I may of changed my mind on driving up there in my 90, we're all going in the parents car Hopefully there will be some bargains to be had up there.
  23. Anyone know of or been to piccadilly wood in West Sussex. Piccadilly Wood It on this sunday, am thinking of popping along. Anyone now what it's like in the way of terrain etc.
