I totally agree with Mo on this subject. If you need a better ofset for any reason then buy wheels not spacers it is the main reason for my tyre question on the disco forum. I want to keep my alloys and want to fit the widest tyres possible without spacers. I have been in a defender when a properly fitted "quality" spacer has worked loose. Luckily I was the passenger, it was a hot day and the spacer that had a mind of it own was on my side. We were only doing about 50 at the time and I made the driver stop imediately. All I can say is thankgod he wasnt't doing 70 on a motorway with his family in the vehicle. I am sure there are some of us on here that make/sell or just swear by them but at the end of the day its your life and others too. I can go on but my soapbox won't support my weight for to long. Thanks g-rover, I take it by clearance problems you mean radius arm and turning circle. They are my main concerns everything else can be handled with my trusty angle grinder. Andy

Thankyou for your reply Damon. What I am particularly interested in is whether it is possible form a practical point of view to fit 265's to standard 7j alloys, without spacers, and not comprimise the turning circle to much. I am sure i will end up with 235's but would just like to make sure that they are the most practical size before I spend my hard earned cash. Andy

As a non LR cheep and cheerful diesel I reckon you can't beat a Skoda Felicia 1.9 NAD. Up till 6 months I was running one lent to me by my dad (thanks dad). They are nippy efficient and pretty robust. I just happen to know where there is one for sale too. Andy

That made me laugh more than marcus being recovered by a horse!!! I think I had better join Jim. Andy

As the title says I will be buying some new muds for my new disco in the very near future. It is a 300tdi and will have a 2" spring lift but I am keep ing the standard 7j alloys and wont be fitting wheel spacers. I know that 265/75x 16's wil fit comfortable on the rims but is it possible to have a driveable vehicle with this size on? Otherwise I will be fitting trusty 235/85x16's. I will be fettling the bodywork whatever I do i am more concerned about the stearing!!! TIA Andy

defender conversion 300tdi disco auto
SHAVED_GORILLA replied to kevseabass110's topic in International Forum
If you fit the 300 or 200 tdi you will need longer or defender oil cooler pipes as they are shorter on a disco compared to a defender and the2.5 petrol doest have them. They dont need to be LR parts, a local pipe specialist will be able to make them for you. Andy -
If the theft occured as part of a burglary, try your house insurance company as you may well be covered through them. Andy

Ita all about spin and scare mongering!!!! Every now and again something like this gets "leaked" so that when they put the tax up we all think "well it wasnt as bad as we expected" and just carry on paying the man. The same thing happens with fuel prices. Until we all stand together and say "no more" it will carry on. Its about time this country grew some balls and took a leaf out of the French book. If they dont like something they bring the country to a stop until the government gives in. Oooopppss i gone and got all political. Andy

Road legal when outside of the UK more than one year
SHAVED_GORILLA replied to Paul64's topic in International Forum
Not knowing where your exact location will be, Is it possible to register your vehicle in another closer EU country? Are you going to be bordering near another country? Just a thought maybe easier to comply with another countries import/registration laws. Andy -
Be careful when storing in jerry cans. Always make sure you filter it before or during filling your vehicle. A freind of mine was using 50/50 mix of svo/diesel, useing the jerry can to mix it together. What he didn't realise was that when he poured it into his tank he was also pouring in the paint/coating from the inside of the jerry can!!! Oh what a mess and a nice sticky lump on the end of the fuel sender pickup. Just a quick warning as I am sure nobody would be that stupid as he took the filter off the jerrycan nozzle because it wasnt going in quick enough. Andy

The 300tdi auto I am borrowing at the moment does on average short trips about 25mpg going upto about 30 on a run. Even towing a heavy trailer with a 110 (minus running gear) it didn't get much below 25mpg. Not sure about any fuelling tweeks but has a full front intercooler and runs on 205 at's otherwise standard. Andy

My suggestions would include...... Levellers Iron Maiden AC/DC New Model Army Nirvana Alien Sex Feind New York Dolls Hanoi Rocks Janes Addiction ZZTop Frank Sinatra Hoyt Axton Johnny Cash The Eagles Bread And many more that have already been suggested. Carter USM how good were they!!! Andy

Ideally that would be an excellent idea, but unfortuneately and supposedly, he has been offered £1500 from a dealer. Knowing car dealers and how things work I thought this was extremely generous. Andy

Thanks for that Jim not here to make enemies!!! Thanks Paul and Selectcase for the sensible reply you have confirmed my thoughts but it is good to hear it from someone else. Andy

68 views and no replies somebody must have a sensible sugestion or should this be posted on the for sale board? Andy

Perhaps not a good idea she wouldn't trust them and with my wonderful stepdad around I will never win that one. Just found a full width ally intercooler stuffed in the front of it, just hope it hasn't been excessively or badly tuned. Andy

I have been offered a disco, which meets all my needs so I am considering selling my Rangie or should I say my Rangie rolling body and all the other bits I have been carefully collecting. The ingredients are as follows... G'reg Range Rover vogue (was 3.5efi Auto) only done a provable 56k and structurally shows this a couple of small plates on the sills seem to be the only welding needed. Good top and bottom tailgates. ZF 4 speed from the same vehicle and same milage. Isuzu 2.8 td taken from mates motor only done about 100k All the conversion kit to mate the above. Lasalle headlineing. There is no way I would split all of this as I know I will get left with bits and come up short. TIA Andy

I have been offered what seems to be a mint m reg(early?) 300tdi Disco S. Its done 102,000 miles the bodywork hasnt been patched or re paneled anywhere and is only just showing signs of needing prevetative work to the boot floor sills and inner wings. These bits only need a scrub and repaint. My questions are whats it worth? Top and bottom realistic prices would be very handy as it is my mother selling it. What should I look out for mechanically? It has been used as a caravan hauler. TIA Andy
