  1. Don't forget that transits are 2-wheel drive and should be more economical.
  2. I think that the '90/110 etc having the aerodynamics of a brick might have some effect on the max fuel economy!! Rocky
  3. Hi, I changed the drive members on the rear axle on my 90 and it made a huge difference, though it hasn't eridicated it entirely. I am saving up for a detroit truetrac diff which may(i hope)solve the problem. I never had problems on my 1995 disco but that had a rubber doughnut on the end of the prop. rocky
  4. Hi, I have a 90 puma '07, which has not been remapped and has standard 205 80 16's (michelin) which are really good in snow. If i keep to 55/60 mph it returns 33/34 mph, 60/70 31/32. The worst it has ever done is 27.5 which was driving all week in deep snow in the Scottish Highlands. I think it is the best Land rover i have owned--and the heater works. Regards, Rocky
  5. thanks for the replies, rocky
  6. Hi, I see that it is possible to buy the front pipe for the puma minus the cat. Would the vehicle pass it's m.o.t., without the cat?--not that it needs a new exhaust, it's just for future reference. Regards, rocky.
  7. Many thanks for your help western, rocky
  8. Will it cause any damage being tight?
  9. thanks western, should the drive flanges be tight on the half-shaft. the ones I put on the rear were very tight!
  10. Hi, I have just fitted new drive flanges to the rear of my 90, has taken all the play out of the drive train. They were very a very tight fit. Had to draw the half-shafts to get them on. My question is, how difficult is it to fit new flanges to the front--if the shafts go in, the flanges will be that tight i'll not get enough protrusion to get the circlips on. Hope I'm making myself clear, need all the help I can get. Regards, Rocky
  11. I did it the hard way, elongated the slots on the mounting plates. Yhanks for the reply, rocky
  12. Hi, I have just spent a happy 1/2 hour trying to fit a steering guard to my defender, only to find that the space between the pre-drilled holes (width wise) is about 10 mm out. I'm going to have to put a 5mm penny washer on each bolt between the chassis and the mounting plates for the holes to line up Has anybody else come across this or am I just unlucky? Regards, rocky
  13. I think Green Flag is better than the AA!! Rocky
  14. Thanks western, I'll have a look on the net for a russian bride, then all my problems are solved (I suppose my wife might object though). rocky
  15. Hi, Could anyone please tell me if there is a parts catalogue available for my 90 tdci defender. Regards, Rocky
  16. Loss of water, bubbles in the expansion chamber, hoses solid (pressure), heater not working, temp gauge in the red or high. rocky
  17. Thanks Anderzander, that good news. Hate boring holes in the chassis. rocky
  18. Hi, Could anyone tell me if there is any drilling required when fitting a steering guard to a 90 puma. Regards, rocky
  19. I have a tdci 90, and it is far superior to the others that I have driven. The engine has loads of power and coupled with a six speed box it is very quiet (and the heater works). On the downside it has a speed limiter which comes in about 81mph, so I have been told. But as I don't drive on motorways I have never been that fast with it. It does cruise quietly at 70 and to be honest would you want to go much faster in a "brick". Fuel consumption is usually 30+ and generally round 32/33. The only time it has been below 30 was going to work, deep snow and drifts for 40 miles round trip over a few days. Hope this has been some help. Regards, rocky.
  20. Happy new year to one and all. Rocky
  21. I never used the glow plugs on my old 300 tdi, even down to -20 (i didn't get round to checking if they worked or not). What I did do was put an earth between the battery and the engine which helped with the cranking speed. It always fired up without any problems. Rocky
  22. Hi, does anyone know if standard rock/tree sliders will fit an '07 plate 90 puma. I phoned the company that I added the link to earlier, but he wasn't sure if the puma chassis is the same as the 300 and td5. Any help greatly appreciated. Rocky
  23. Thanks for the replies, I'll order a set as soon as they are back to work. rocky
