  1. Hi, bit the bullet and bought a td4 defender 90 today, 07 plate with a years warranty, fingers crossed it will be ok. I'm hoping to have time now to get my 300tdi disco tarted up with new floor and rear crossmember and a dab of paint here and there. If not I'll sell it for spares--will the transfer box fit the td4? Regards, rocky
  2. thanks everybody for your help. rocky
  3. Was there a modification to the clutch? rocky

  5. Hi, has anybody any experience of the tdci defender. I'm needing another vehicle and there is one for sale locally. Any pointers geatly appreciated. Regards, rocky
  6. Hi, many thanks for the replies, it would be a van, don't want rear doors as I might use it for camping/travelling. I read some where that the tax can be higher according to weight but can't find it again. regards, rocky
  7. Hi, could anyone please tell me how much the road tax is on a pre '2006 110. Regards, rocky
  8. Thanks, that's very helpful. Regards, rocky
  9. Hi, Could someone kindly tell me if the transfer box from a disco 300 tdi is a straight swop for defender one and will it give increased fuel economy and top speed? Regards, rocky
  10. Hi, I use a tomtom go which I bought mainly for europe and the usa, it has done everything I have asked of it. It has two useful features:-sd card slot for adding more maps and a facility for adding lat/long co-ordinates, which is far more accurate than using post codes etc. Regards, rocky
  11. Hi, just checked with an LR dealer and he states that the VED tax hike for defenders etc comes into operation after march 2006 and then it jumps tp £400+. Hope this helps. Regards, rocky
  12. Thanks for the replies, I just needed to know which was which so I could order one--nearest parts place is 20 miles away. Regards, rocky.
  13. Hi, unfortunately I've got a split heater hose, it is the one which connects to the head at the rear of the engine, not the one that connects the the metal pipe that goes along the cylinder head. Could someone kindly tell me if it is the inlet or outlet hose. Regards, rocky.
  14. If the decat pipe was rotten I would have put defender pipe on it. The disco has only got to run till may then I'll be getting a 90. I can't make up my mind whether to go for a td5 or a rebuilt 300. Looking in a 4x4 mag Liverage refurbish the with new chassis/bulkhead, paint tyres etc., which would be handy as I will have a spare engine/gearbox and transfer box. Regards, rocky.
  15. Hi, the rear pipe and box are still under guarantee--phoned the garage last night, they said they would have look and see what's wrong--hope it's not the cat. I'm not able to get under it at the moment and there is still a foot of snow in the drive. regards, rocky.
  16. Hi, I've had some rattling from the exhaust for a while, but today it has got a lot louder. It sounds like loose baffles. When I put my boot on the tailpipe the rattle almost stops. what i'm bothered about is if it isn't the baffles and something has gone down the pipe, but I can't think what. If it was turbo vanes would the turbo have blown up--I've had one go before in a mercedes van and it sounded like gunshot, then the cab filled with smoke and the engine stopped. There is no noticeable difference in the disco's performance. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. Regards, rocky
  17. The disco has only got to last till the end of may, then I'll be forking out for another one. Hopefully i will be able to do the bits of welding on it and keep it as a spare--or take out the engine/gearbox/transfer box, they should be worth saving as it is hard to find a decent used one. regards, rocky
  18. I put a new battery on it today--£96--at least the disco has some value now!! Regards, rocky
  19. Magic mate ,many thanks, regards, rocky
  20. Hi, i have been having a battery problem with my disco, when it was really cold -15 the vehicle wouldn't start (flattened the battery after 3 tries). Took the car to a garage for a battery/alternator test and was told that the battery etc was ok. Tested the battery last night with a ring charger and the result was 100%. When i tested it this morning it was only 40%. I disconnected the battery and put a meter between the negative terminal and the clamp and got 0.01amps. Could anyone please tell me if this is an excessive drain as I don't want to buy a new battery to have the same problem. Regards, rocky

Hi,if you are going to use it abroad am as well as fm is handy. Regards, rocky
  22. I've had a look at the manual and it seems there two at the rear of the engine and also under the manifold. Best bet would be to get the engine hot and see where it is coming from. rocky
  23. I think there i have seen something in this forum on leaking core plugs--have you checked the pressure cap on the expansion tank--if it is spraying out it seems like a lot of pressure. I have a 300tdi, and when the head gasket went it blew bung out of the thermostat housing. If it is the core plugs I think there are one or two at the rear of the engine and would be wet. regards, rocky
