  1. Hi, the cheapest quote i had for my 90 tdci £200 fully comp and it's only three years old. adrian flux wanted another ton! rocky
  2. Hi, I have noticed a slight water loss in the expansion chamber. The coolant drops about 1/4" over a couple of months. I had it pressure checked but there was no leak found. The garage did say that some td5's do use water between services and maybe the puma is the same. There is no fluctuation in the temp gauge and no temperature loss in the heater. There is a slight smell from the radiator grill but no sign of any water leak and no drips in the snow (which we have about 6" and still falling). All the vehicles I've ever had never lost water without a leak or a headgasket blown. The plumbing on the puma does seem a bit complex but as I say I can't find a leak. The vehicle has only done 36,000 miles ('07 plate) so I hope it's not a headgasket as the warranty is now out. Any pointers greatly appreciated. Regards, rocky
  3. Thanks,I was reading the puma manual prior to wiring up a couple of spotlights where I saw the battery cables marked as +/- VE. The last vehicle that I rewired was a series III. I suppose things have moved on a bit since then. Regards, rocky
  4. Hi, could someone please explain to me what +VE/-VE means. I know that they are the battery cables but I don't know what the letters VE mean!! Regards, rocky
  5. Hi,I use Castrol Magnatec 5/30 fully synthetic, which meets spec in handbook (ford spec WSSM2C913A). No problems here in the uk, but if I were to be using the vehicle in a hot climate then I would probably up the oil to 5/50. Rocky
  6. Many thanks for the replies. I did want to put lights on an A bar but the insurance co., wouldn't agree so it will have to be a roof bar or rack. Regards, rocky
  7. Hi, i am going to put a gutter mounted spotlight bar, with the lights wired into my main beam of my 90 tdci, could someone kindly suggest the best route for the cables (as unobtrusive as possible)and where to drill a hole in the roof. Regards, rocky
  8. I liked the 300tdi, though i did have to change the head gasket and have the head skimmed. It was fine when it warmed up and averaged 31/32mpg. Contrary to earlier opinions I think the puma 90 is great--quiet, fast and economical. Rocky
  9. Hi, an additional earth from the engine to the -terminal on the battery might improve things, it did on mine. Rocky
  10. Hi, many thanks for your replies and if anyone is interested it has been snowing for a few hours at the Braes of Glenlivet where I work. The hills are white but unfortunately the road is not. Regards, rocky
  11. Thanks Western, i've just been under the vehicle, the front pads on it are shamfered but the ones on the rear are not. I did price a full set of pads from the main agents and they were £40 for the rear and £60 for the front. The ones i bought from paddocks don't have any. I'll just fit them and check them regularly, i don't want to knacker the discs. Regards, rocky
  12. Hi,i recently bought some brake pads for my tdci 90 '07 plate, the discs are non-vented. In the defender manual it states that the pads are shamfered and the ones i bought are not. Are the shamfered ones for vented discs? advice greatly appreciated. Regards, rocky
  13. All will be revealed soon!!! rocky

  16. I had a similar problem with my disco, it turned out to be a bent/loose backplate on the n/s front. I bent it pulling some bushes out in the garden. rocky
  17. I have a 90 tdci 07 plate and have heard that if you change tyres from 205/80/16 (which is on my vehicle)to 235/85/16, the difference in tyre size can be compensated for on the computer as the tdci's speedo is controlled by the computer. Would someone kindly confirm if this is correct--or not. Regards, rocky.
  18. Thanks for the info Les--very informative. I'll bung one in at the weekend. When I've saved upenough dosh I'm going to put a detroit truetrack LSD in it to help in the snow. Regards, rocky

  21. Hi, I'm needing to test the antifreeze that's in the vehicle, my old tester is probably u/s for this type of mixture. I was wondering if there is a refractometer that would be suitable for the LR antifreeze. Regards, rocky
