  1. I think if you took the runners off and sat them in the landy youd get an idea,or get a flat plate tacked on to the bottom of each runner or the base of the seat and youd definateley be well on the way, this is how ive fitted seats in the past, the only thing is how would the access to the battery and jack be?? you see i dont think you can use the original landrover base fittings as there quick release?, if you did that then because your new seats are all in one they would be very insecure, as the back is bolted to the seat base unlike the landy.......my 2p...keep me posted,im sure the experts will be here soon to put us right
  2. I didnt realise that? still its good though for the money even if you have to share...mike just thinking.......my wife wont miss me,do you think yours would? we could go halves on one landy at a time and maybe get a couple o bunk beds?? you could say something like"my dearest and nearest,im afraid you are just to selfish, theres nothing wrong with a four poster ramp and it wouldnt squash your geraniums at all,im moving out!"ill do it if you do
  3. Hes gone quiet now...hmmmm,wonder if hes gone outside to admire his handy work...or hes got his head in a haynes manual getting ready to check the bores
  4. Did you tighten it up properley if its roaring so much!! lol
  5. Well done graham!! NVQ level 0.1,did you do the big proud road test afterwards like i do? and your to good for kwik fit....you can spell, and you have a sense of humour
  6. Jim that was well explained and easily understood!!makes sense to,im gonna get this sorted as soon as! thanks for your time mate regards tris
  7. Hello all, i fitted a lift kit which has given me roughly 3inches of lift,i was happy with the handling and ride, its heavy duty so the ride felt firmer,i had to hit the brakes quite hard to day and blimey it frightened the life out me!! ....it dived and swerved to the right, and a long hard brake makes it swerve pitch and wallow, not really bad but enough to worry you,if i had to do an emergency stop goodness knows what would happen!! my brakes are spot on, new on the back good on the front and pulled up brilliant and true before the lift, has any one else had this??and i wondered did you stabilise it a bit more if you did?? strut brace?? landys eh!! hope all are well!! tris
  8. blimey if we tried to run coconot that would be fun !!! by the way havnt met you before so welcome to the forum
  9. the farm machinery seem to run okay but i dont doubt what your saying at all, wouldnt want to run anything that would risk premature engine wear, thats why i stopped using oil, because it could possibly take life off my engine, say my engine would do 200k but using oil only does 170k than will cost me a new engine when on diesel it could still be running, think what we need to see is someone with some serious mileage using oil,you know a 100k plus..
  10. Rottveiler?.......doberman??............im a fan of wheel clamps and disc locks.....immobilisers etc im not sure of,if i went wading id be worried bout the electrics,i would definitely suggest a whhel clamp and a disc lock though, disc lock should lower your insurance
  11. ive just put a 2inch heavy duty lift on which has actualy given me 3 to 4 inches of lift somehow, but the ride is stunning i really recomend it,handles well and it doesnt bang over the bumps..for 200quid you cant go wrong,im using britpart and pro comp, just be warned the fronts are an absolute pig, grind the nuts on the top and either use stilsons or drill out the nut on the bottom,i heated the lower nut and then drilled a small whole then a large right through and the nut came off
  12. Not even just a tincy wincy bit!!! didnt realise that red diesel over time could be a little harmful
  13. Im not sure weather the lubrication properties of oil can be proven, especially over long term use,its just not worth it anymore, and ive been using it for 4 years up the price went up,you save hardly anything you do risk playing with the life of your filter and pump, and whats more its illegal...so if your not paying the added tax which makes it illegal then WHY dont you just use red diesel??? the police can detect oil and they can detect red so you cant hide either,so really isnt red diesel the better option?? a trip down to the local farmer and have him order a little more into a 200ltr drum is no problem,to be honest we are screwed with the price of fuel and the only sure way of combatting it is to ask for a pay rise and plan your journeys a little better, maybe walk to the shop if you can......which ever way we look at saving fuel the government will get us somehow be it gas oil or electric!! mind you there is another way, see if your local religion can slip in a few prayers for cheaper fuel as well as forgiving our sins....................??
  14. OT ..... sorry for qouting the whole topic a few replys up!! still getting the hang of this

  18. NOOO!!! dont do that theres a unit up for grabs in telford on ebay.....120pound a month!!! go get it,he wouldnt let me spray, but its got a four poster and its a massive workshop!
  19. Thanks for the link, they do look the bees knees, theyre a top price to a lot cheaper than craddocks in the midlands, ill give them a call in the morning and see how quick they can get them to me...thanks again............tris
  20. so theres different sizes too..doh!! what size do i need for a 2inch lift?? standard size to? cheers western!
  21. Hi there people,i fitted a 2inch lift kit the other day and my turrets were in a bad way when doing the front,im going to do a proper job and replace them but the only replacements ive found are heavy duty turrets at 55pound each,my question is can you get others apart from heavy duty ones, and also if i fitted the heavy duty ones do i have to modify anything on my defender to fit them?? i cant post a picture but they look like two tubes bent over basicaly(technical pronunciation ) hope all are well...cheers people!!!! regards tris
  22. i wouldnt risk using the gunk in a large 4x4 tyre, and getting stuck in the middle of a down pour is not nice especially up your neck of the woods, with all the spaces for carrying a spare on a landy i would sat carry one,if the puncture is repairable your going to knacker up a repairable tyre with all that stuff and driving on it too,my 2p
  23. just a thought but couldnt you run the defender set up and have the turbo above?? as for fitting an intercooler and oil cooler well even i can do that with no problems,i think the general opinion on here is running the tdi lump without the turbo would be a bad idea, and im sure the performance would be dire, turbod engines run a lower compression and im sure the 200tdi lump would be the same,so it will be even slower than the original engine,i reckon as your so close you should stick with the turbo running gear off a defender, you have to make room for the oil cooler at the front and the intercooler could go anywhere, hell you could run it without one if you were desperate, although i wouldnt recomend it,you will get so much help of this forum so you will do anything im sure and cheap parts are easily sourced from here on the wanted and the for sale, hope all goes well and USE THE TURBO!!
  24. try john craddock landrover 4x4,they have new stuff in the shop and they have a big salvage yard with discos defenders series etc....the numbers 08453444111,they do mail order and internet, the site is easy to find! regards tris!!
  25. Im certainly no expert and have only basic knowledge but i just wondered will the compression be to low??will the 200tdi be lower than a normaly aspirated because its running the turbo in which case the 200tdi will be like a race horse thats been knee capped in your series...maybe someone more knowledgable will put me right if this is worth mentioning?? oh and welcome to the forum!!!
