  1. Do you have any oil leaking from bell housing? As it does not take much oil on to create clutch judder. I seem to remember from my days on the spanners working on local authority Landrovers (a long time ago....1974) clutch judder nearly always turned out to be oil.
  2. Sorry to hear this news.... I really hope the catch the *******s Have you/your sister got a photo of the disco ? this would help.
  3. Politics is the process by which groups (not individuals) of people make decisions on who gets what. The term is generally applied to behavior within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. Politics consists of "social relations involving authority or power"[1] and refers to the regulation of a political unit, [2] and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy. The dictionary definition above leads me to think that this site is indeed political in some way shape or form. Questions: what makes a thread LR based? what makes a 4x4 LR based? does the vehicle need to be LR only or does having a LR component make it so? if not there are shed loads of threads none LR why have threads about scrap iron and the likes been allowed? was it because of personal interest of the mods? scrap iron is not LR. but it is political!!! i suspect that the price of fuel does indeed affect all on this site .... there is no question that it affects my Landrovers enjoyment as it restricts how often she gets out and about....! fuel is as much part of LR as is what type of oil to use or who to get this or that from people selling none LR specific parts.. is that allowed? ans: YES would it Not be allowed to have a thread on the price of tyres if the tax on them was to rise above 70%? again I don't intend to make anyone angry but I accept that one view does not fit all. (or is that a political statement?) Peace be with you
  4. As said I agree it is in wrong section and should be moved, may be to the section that is for "Using your Land Rover for work, play and travel" also agree that (it seems that) I'll struggle..... and it again seems no petition has made one bit of difference. But does it really harm to try?
  5. Agree that it is in wrong section... but disagree with the "bluddy petitions" aspect... it is along running issue that affects us all IMHO... Say nothing and you will get nothing unless others speak for you. How much has fuel go up in the last 12 months? How much more will it go up? is there justification for the TAX? at the level that it is! I for one travel 33/45k mls per annum and have to pay that from My pocket, not from an expense account.. if a LR forum is not the place to discuss issues that affect our Landrover usage, then where is? I do not aim to upset anyone, but do like the freedom to disscuss
  6. just signed it.... suggest everyone sends the link to all in their address book...!
  7. Just as Tony says, It is not worth the risk and (IMHO)precision is far harder to achieve when leaning over and at an awkward angle.
  8. must be catching as is oft heard from all: what u say?....... So has any one used head sets? if so any recommendations? I raise this as clearly communication is key and would (hopefully) remove the need to SHOUT as you could set to account for personal deafness seem to remember OG lending a set to his mate at one of james's events last year, any feed back on that OG?(Mark)
  9. I'm running F/F .. just tried it on three different threads it took me to: second from last page middle page and first post mods: pls explain what / why and where they should take one as they seem to be very random
  10. it all depends what you intend to do with the disco after your 39 days .... if you intend to (somehow) keep the disco, then it may be worth the effort and time to find one that suits your needs---- if not then hire a car if you find a disco that has enough Road tax and MOT (certificate of road worthiness) at a price that makes sense then it may be woth while. but you have limited holiday time so again car hire may be more practical especially when you factor in the reliability issues. you will be able to arrange insurance in a day, but short term insurance is not cheep if your holiday is about learning to repair a land rover; then you will have a fulfilling time with your discovery
  11. sorry for late reply .... I am still on same box, Was advised (because of Auto) to turn engine off before shifting ...it works but engine dose not after cam belt fail mid challenge great even, my team mate done a front drive and i done a wing, headlight, wing mirror, rear winch (again) and cam belt+ but a brill site nr tring.... Good luck with you box
  12. totally agree very practical and expedient although; some seem to thrive on the squabbling, maybe its their way of releasing pent up frustration.
  13. I find it easier to hear the "non shouty ones" as their directions seem better worked out practice practice practice will help to achieve that, but hard to find a constantly available winchman  do you wear cycle clips
  14. A viewpoint that I totally agree with... Mark a good hard bitchman gets the job done communication with understanding is a key point been there
  15. I have been part of an ongoing debate about responsibilities of driver and winch person (M/f). many differ in their views and who should listen to whom. Although it can be very amusing to listen to some of the teams, their are three main areas of debate. 1/ in single or team entry event who directs who? 2/ Who is ultimately responsible for safe negotiation of sections 3/ As marshals differ in their approach what are the rolls of the marshals To some these question may seem self evident, for others it could be very useful to have an understanding of general practice. getting this right may greatly improve safety so please give your opinion and reasons . 16. re pto yes I wasn't thinking........ Any suggestions re what pump and belt? Also as I'm thinking M/Maker does anyone know what pull (lbs) & line speed they have? or advise on an alternative although cost is an issue on this, I like the idea of having both electric and hydraulic winches. the question will be which winch will winch best at front or back 8274-50 vs MM
  17. So dose it mean that Auto box = auto driver assist? or can one achieve pto without wheel drive (ie t/box in N) ? Alternatively is there a pto pump available to fit where the AC pump would fit and what power difference (drop) from t/box pto?
  18. Oh..... Mine is 21.30 can anyone expand on this?photo of caliper @ 21.30 partially blocking where the pto would fit
  19. I always acknowledge any Landrover driver with a polite flick of the lights and nod or raised hand but not Chelsea tractors as they just don't get it....... shock horror and disgust all rolled into a typical toff expression as they pass I particularly like the way some folk move out of my way when i queue to pay for fuel home after very muddy event Passing them in doorways is also amusing
  20. Hi, have started to look at the idea of hydraulic winch to replace rear tmax sh*t... wanted to fit PTO to transfer box ( better power than power steer pump ? ) but was told yesterday by a winch supplier that it is not possible to fit to auto box sad.gif is that right ? yeh I know that the Xbrake might be an issue but surely as the drive is from the Tbox I don't (as yet) see the issue. Please enlighten me
  21. 2hrs+ to get out of this one, and it smelt like a sewer I defo got muddy on this one
