  1. I have decided that the new truck will run 35" tyres in order to get a decent amount of clearance under the diffs, and I am starting to think about acquiring some tyres in order to build the other bits of truck around them. The new truck is aimed at being a general purpose truck, capable of doing the odd challenge style event, but also being driven around the country for laneing or whatever other sort of stuff I might fancy, so I have envisaged using an MT pattern tyre rather than the more extreme simex style tread patterns. I have always used BFG M/T's in the past, and rate them highly, but looking around I can only see 35" diameter offered on a 15" rim. Does anyone know if then can be obtianed in 35" diameter for a 16" rim? If not can anyone suggest good alternatives available at these sorts of diameters for a 16" rim? Cheers Mark
  2. Depends when you got your license.
  3. Got any pictures? does it have a disc type brake or a band brake? eitherway, you should be able to jury rig it with a couple of jump leads and a screwdriver to test it... Just curious, Mark
  4. The cap head bolts hold the mechanism to engage and disengage the hubs together. You can remove the hub by just undoing the bolts holding it onto the hub I think, but you will almost certainly need to split it to put it back on. It is a long while since I had any apart though!
  5. unfortunately it is virtually impossible to stop the selectro design from leaking. However, it is possible to swap over from oil to one-shot swivel grease in the hubs which tends to stay in better. I have had this combination on my IIA for some time, and they don't leak. hth Mark
  6. I hadn't realised donkeys were worth that much.... clean or otherwise.... Nice toolbox though.
  7. have you tried eBay? editted, cos I just had a look, and realised there were no new ones on there - there usually are tho...
  8. As Pete says, They are definitely wider at the base. I would also suggest, if you were making them yourself that you make the flat bit at the top a bit longer - your pictures seem to have a short flat section, but to my mind a longer flat section would be far better. Mark
  9. Have you thought about conventional car ramps, or at least a heavy duty version of them like difflock sell? ramps I have a pair, and they are really good. A second pair would get the whole vehicle up off the ground far enough to wok quite comfortably... alternately, get yourself a set of bus/lorry lifts! Mark
  10. Devon 4x4 have supplied me with OME Springs recently. I believe OEC and Gwyn Lewis also sell them. Goolgeing them will reveal their websites...
  11. Al, what sort of thickness do you want? Leeside Tools in Yapton sell gasket paper by the roll. Not sure if that is high temperature enough for you?

really? how? they should all be 3.54 ratio diffs....
  13. That's pretty much what I thought, so I have been and acquired a genuine elring one. paddocks can have the britpart one back. thanks chaps Mark
  14. I Ordered a 200TDI 3-hole head gasket from Paddocks earlier in the week. On the website there didn't seem to be an option of OE vs pattern part, but having ordered one before when an Elring (OEM) one turned up, I ordered the same again, only this time a Britpart one has arrived... Generally, if it has to seal or rotate I will use OE or Genuine parts, so I am loathe to use a Britpart head gasket if it is going to fail in 10 minutes... Has anyone else used the Britpart version? or should I just go out and get an OE one? Cheers Mark
  15. Oh, an ammo box... why didn't you say so? :P
  16. Could I ask what an H83 is? I know the double pump one fits under the front seat of a discovery... Mark
  17. a lot of people on here (me included) have had very good results with the t-max double pump compressor. if you do a search for 'double pump' or the like I am sure you will find the discussions... here's one on eBay although mine came from Foundry 4x4 (but they don't list it on thier website) I like mine so much I have hard wired it into my discovery to provide on board air. Cheers Mark

    Oops!

Chris, I had to look several times to realise that was your truck, but I am very glad to hear you got away with no major injuries. Having seen it recently, I know you have put a lot of work into the truck so must be heart breaking for you. Given the amount and nature of the kit you are carrying around, I would have thought a 110 commercial station wagon would suit you perfectly, but in the situation above I would suspect you would have come off a lot worse due to the lack of real structure above the waist line in a defender. I hope the d3 driver gets his comeuppance, but don't let it eat you up, it's not worth it. Have a good holiday Mark
  19. I seem to remember one of the sonim XP phones was also available branded as a Land Rover Product...
  20. Stupid question, but I have been looking at RRSports recently, so it has some releavence... Are we talking tdV6 or td6 engines? I thought td6 was what the BMW straight 6 diesels were called rather than the TDV6 as fitted to D3's... I was looking for a Rangie Sport for similar money to Mr Drakes, and despite driving the tdv6 I came to the conclusion that what I really wanted was a tdv8.... Cheers Mark
