  1. I have one of theses http://www.primuscamping.com/magnify.php?image=http://www.primuscamping.com/images/catalog/328985_L.jpg Used for a few years now in all conditions and still does the job very well and will burn anything. LP holds its self very well until you start going high up hill. Have you considered getting a thermal blanket for the gas can, such as the ones use by paintballers for their C02 rigs? Might help stop the cool down effect.
  2. I've personally had too many experiences with buying cheap stuff that either breaks or doesn't do a good job with all to common answer back of, well you get what you pay for. I figure having spent £800 on VNT turbo and looking at future power upgrades then whats a £200 piece of mind v a new engine. Please don't think im trying to start any form of buying the biggest most expensive product is right war, but sometimes I feel you really do get what you pay for.
  3. I have a SPA desgin kit in mine. Does EGT/BOOST. Came with all the probes and wiring harness fits nicely where my clock used be. To do the job properly took me and mate 3 hours. But very much worth it. I used in conjunction with one of these http://www.egrvalve.co.uk/index.php?page=landrover-defender-td5-egr-kit for the boost pressure and drilled and tapped the manifold before the turbo for the EGT. The gauge is very responsive but accurate. Hope that helps
  4. Donation made. Its a great forum and I always enjoy coming on here to read the posts. Keep up the great work Mods.
  5. I have just installed a lovely dual gauge by SPA design, it really is quite nice. Does EGT and BOOST, came with all the probes and leads etc. Quite pricey but so far does as tin says.
  6. Thanks for the info, always good to know for the future. The connection is for boost pressure so I did want to make sure it was right.
  7. Ahh don't worry, i was being stupid, wrong bit in wrong hole. How many times have that happen before
  8. Hi Guys, Is is it possible to re-tap a 1/8 NPT hole to a 1/8 BSP? The 1/8 NPT is in a small block of aluminium. Thanks
  9. Hi Guys, Right, I've searched, I've read. I've searched a bit more and i've decided I could be a bit confused. I've got a 2001 TD5 90 So the question, I've got a VNT tubro from bell auto's waiting to be fiited and decided that i'd like to know the EGT along with the boost pressure of the turbo. I've seen the gauge i like, will it do what I need it too? http://shop.mcnallyelectronics.com/product.sc?productId=55&categoryId=2 Where on a TD5 are the best places to attach/insert probes. Would the manifold be best for the EGT or i've seen someone had used the blank plate on the ERG pipe.
  10. I've got OME's on mine, work out your weights and where its mostly going. Mine was with very heavy load in the back so went as like this: 1" HD on the front and 1" extra HD on the rear. Ride is a little rough but when loaded there is very little sag so you retain the slight lift, but the springs then start working very well. However since my exped is cancelled i may well put 1" HD on the back as they will still cope perfectly with the weight I do carry. If you do decide to go OME i would recommend Gywn lewis any time, the man knows his stuff!
  11. Can you use a reef not with with a second reef above with a wedge in it very effective for stopping tightening. Of course as mentioned just sure you carry a strop/line long enough in the first place. Even is the knot becomes impossible to untie the product has done its job time to replace.
  12. I use alpine. Tbh tho if you are not going to amp them it really wouldn't matter too much what you put in.
  13. Think I saw you, you were camping near the Isle of white lot.
  14. Yup was GZ. I bought the Jersey lot over, we were caming in the back field playing on others.
  15. Would like to start by saying a big thank you to the guys at Kam. Having decided a week and a half before coming over to the Uk to get a locker I phoned and was pleasantly surprised to find out my 90 could be worked on straight after the bank holiday. I left my 90 with them at about 9am and came back at just after 5pm to find they were just finishing off (my error in leaving locking nut tool in middle of all the carp from a camping/airsoft trip slowed them up a lot, sorry) The work they've done is first class from the welding of the diffpan to getting the wiring in the dash, in all very happy. As soon as it was ready I took it for a test drive, got it stuck. The diff was engaged with a satisfying clunk and stuck I was no longer, quick flick of the switch and the diff disengaged. Such a simple design and seems to work perfectly. As I get the chance to use it more i'll try and update this.
  16. Literally as it says, so you can fill the tanks up from the boat Deck.
  17. Unfortunately not, I even think he got it from scrap iron as well, so paid silly dollar for it. http://www.marinescene.co.uk/category/284/water-tanks give you and idea. Prices I see might be cheap but then I live on an Island with a quite a few marine shops vi-ing for trade.
  18. I have one of the tall t-shape tanks. When fitted it sits up against the bulkhead of the 90 and sticks out in to the load bay about 4inchs, thats with foam shock absorbent behind it. Its held in places by a brace through strength holes in it. Gonna make you cry now, paid £20 for it from silly friend. http://www.frontrunner.co.za/fr_products/products/FR874.html Great bit of kit if your limited for space and want to keep the weight centered and low. The other option I looked at before the above came along, is marine tanks. Plastimo make some that you could swear were designed for 90 load bay.
  19. My mates are at billing this weekend, have come over from Jersey. If you see a bright green disco in the main arena to day thats one of them.
  20. Thanks for the all the replies. I've been in contact with Vass and they do have them, in 12 and 14 ply! From my understanding the Gobi and surrounding areas can change quite quickly from soft to solid hard pack. Going from west to east in Russia also throws in some interesting road/track conditions. With that in mind i'm willing to sacrifice the deflatability of the tyre in favour of it lasting, that and using a 90 i'm going to be putting majority of my weight over the rear axel. T alking with Peter (sure that was his name) at Vass they sell a lot of tyres to the side of the world which would indicate they work well there. I think its one of these dammed if you do dammed if you don't things. lol
  21. Thank you very much for the link.
  22. Really as title says, I'm planning on going through Europe up to the top in to Russia, Mongolia and back in to deepest darked east Russia. So the terrain from what I can see is going to be Road and desert with the mud here and there. I was looking at something like the XZY but unless im looking in the wrong places they seem to have vanished form existence. If this is so, what should I be looking at as substitute? Thanks
  23. What I find hard to believe is he actually wants someone to give him money for it. That 06 CD player better be good!
  24. You could look at fitting a second alternator?
  25. Just add to this mess, we've just got back from green laning in France. The normal mix of defenders and discos all showing who's best, oh and our mate in his standard P38 with road tires. It didn't get stuck once and made all the river crossing's, to show how hard it really was it joined us on the friday night drinking session. Had nearly half pint of cider, a glass of vodka and some recard in the header tank. Then got beaten with a stick! lol I think it annoyed our guide a little that it was still going at the end.
