trod
hi can any one tell the differance between a lwb & a swb steel rim. thanks Trod
FridgeFreezer
There's a lot of variation, but I believe usually SWB are 5.5" wide whereas LWB are 6.5" wide.
AV8R
To the best of my knowledge Series 88"WB had only 5 " wide rims. The LWB's had 5,5" wide rims. The 6,5 " rims were only for the Forward Controls and the 109" 1 Ton version. These vehicles used 9.00 x 16" tyres . Special ratios in the transfer case was fitted to cope with the larger diameter tyre.

I just swapped to 16" 6.5 Wolfrims and these are 'clearly' wider than my previous original series III 109 station sahara rims. can measure tomorow. xychix
hmmm I measure just over 16cm from outer edge to outer edge, which converts to 6.29" on the older rims. However the wolf ones I ordere are clearly wider! I'd guess they should be 6" then?
Bowie69
I think rim width is measured to the inner mounting surface, where the bead goes, otherwise alloy wheels, and steel wheel would have different 'widths' due to the material thicknesses... xychix
ah yeah that makes sense, I'll stick with 6" then
Snagger
SWB 5", LWB 5.5, 1-Ton and FC are both 6", I think (different offsets, FC having the wheel further outboard). HD (aka Wolf) are 6.5". Discovery steel wheels are 7", like LR alloy wheels.
