Oil from water pump bolt hole

Is this a bad thing? Far left hole had some oil come out when I removed the bolt.

I am taking the water pump off to fix a gasket leak.

Does the bolt block off an oil channel?

Which engine ? 

if it's a 2.5N/A diesel then in parts book the water pump fixings look to be all bolts.

 

 

on my Defender spec 200tdi that hole has a long stud for timing case & water pump. IIRC it does screw into a hole that has oil on the block side. as the stud did have oil traces on it during my strip/rebuild back in Nov last year. [photo below]

Yes the engine is a 12J. Turns out that After I put the new gasket on the water pump continued to leak out of the weep hole. Time for a new pump. This one was only two years old with not many miles on it. 

Are water pumps a short lived item?

When I did timing belt last year I was advised to do water pump too as it’s seen as a “serviceable item” so I’m guessing they don’t have a great life span. 😊👍

Should last longer than 2 years, my 200Tdi pump is way over 2 years old, IIRC it's a Airtex make came from my local LR parts supplier via Allmakes.

My 200tdi weeps oil along that stud as well. I will fix it when i next do the timing belt - probably a dab of loctite on the threads where they go into the block.

Only non-genuine ones.

I think my water pump was the one that was on the engine when i fitted it 100k miles ago. Dont know how long it'd been on there before that.

have two 200 tdi one at 90,000 and one at 130,000, both still with original water pumps .
