landroversforever
Anyone know if Defender and series track rod ends are the same? Or able to confirm the thread? I've got ones for a SUMO bar on the shelf which are 11/16 UNF. Will they fit? I've got some steering bars kindly donated to the project by Jon White but I need a TRE for the drag link. Dave W
Not sure about the thread, think they are the same BUT, from memory, I think the taper is different so you need to make sure the TRE matches the component it's being mated to or it will only contact on a small part of the taper. landroversforever
The tapers look the same by eye, but these are only for a mock up some it doesn't matter either way
steve b
I'm pretty sure the thread is a non-standard pitch with a UN profile for Series and Defender/RRC/D1 as I had a look for a pair of taps earlier this year to clean up old series 1 steering rods. cheers Steve b
oneandtwo
The length of the thread on the taper is different between series and defender from memory - a series one will fit a defender but there isn’t enough thread on the taper protruding from the axle components to properly secure the track rod. landroversforever
As long as I can get a couple of threads I'm happy! It's only got to take me pushing the wheels side to side
Jon White
The only difference is the length of the thread where it bolts through the steering arm. The series ones are shorter. You can use a defender tre on a series, but series ones on a defender are a bit short and you can barely get the thread through the nyloc. Defender steering arms are thicker than series. the taper is the same, and the thread that goes into the rods is the same.
