reb78
Is there any point soaking a spigot bush in oil for 24(?) hours before fitting? I have heard some recommend it but have no idea if it really does anything.
rtbarton
I was taught to soak sintered bronze bushes so the oil soaks in and they stay lubricated. They were known as "Oilite" bushes, so I guess from the name they require oiling.
reb78
Thanks. It cant so any harm. Just in engine oil? How long for?
rtbarton
Thin engine oil, 24 hours. I used to keep sintered bushes in a tub with oil in it so when I wanted one it had already been soaked.

reb78
Thanks! Will put it in now ready for fitting tomorrow afternoon.
rtbarton
Wipe the excess oil off before fitting. If the end of the primary motion shaft is a tight fit in the bush excess oil may allow hydraulic pressure to build up and force the bush back out. Maverik
Are those bushes actually sintered on land rover engines? you can usually see as they have a porous look about them...
smallfry
The one I have spare looks porous...…………….speckly (technical term) black look over the bronze In oil on top of the boiler or radiator, or possibly in the oven after it has been used. Careful with this though, or you may earn yourself a handbagging !
