Mutley
How do you remove and replace the FRONT Transfer box input bearing, can't seem to find any info on this? Have removed prop shaft, bolt flange, dust cover, seal and cir clip... But cannot seem to get the bearing out!?! Any help would be great, cheers Andy
oneandtwo
The shaft comes out with the bearing, you then press the shaft out of the bearing. The bearing is usually tight in the casing, slide hammer on the output shaft will pull the shaft / bearing out.
dailysleaze
There's a technique where you can put the flange back on then tap it forwards with a long bar from under the transfer box.
Retroanaconda
Input or output? First post says input but rest implies output.
Mutley
@Retroanaconda Front prop shaft to Transfer box.... Not handbrake side! Is this the input or out put??? @ all others... how easy to get the shaft out, fit bearing onto it then replace, any special tools required for this job? western
That'll be the front output shaft then. https://forums.lr4x4.com/topic/25053-transfer-box-front-output-bearing/ https://forums.lr4x4.com/topic/23690-front-output-bearing/
oneandtwo
Sometimes they pull straight out, sometimes slide hammer or put the flange back on and lever it out as above. why are you removing it? Has the bearing defiantly failed or does it feel like there is play in it? They all feel slightly loose from new due to the bearing clearance. Mutley
@oneandtwo needed to replace the seal so thought i would replace the bearing at the same time, other than that no real reason. Cheers Ralph for the links
Retroanaconda
They rarely fail unless they are run dry of oil.
